  1. I had the same issue; the tap issued from the kit of a well known vendor simply would not cut. I went to home depot and bought an off the shelf replacement in the same size. The job was then finished within five minutes. It was definitely the shoddy tap the first time.
  2. I was raised in NJ but I would N-E-V-E-R go back. Irrational firearms regulation is just the tip of the iceberg. Stay away; you're not missing anything.
  3. The poor terminal performance of certain 5.56 rounds is not an intrinsic quality of the caliber, but rather the ammunition. M855 out of certain barrels and at certain angles of impact will not upset/fragment early enough, which does indeed produce terminal effects similar to .22 magnum. The new mk318 is a big improvement. Frankly, I would argue that classic M43 7.62x39 is probably even worse against unobstructed targets. Instead of not upsetting reliably, it reliably does not upset. http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=19885 According to Vickers and other knowledgeable individuals
  4. I have both and enjoy shooting both. Better is relative to what you are looking for. Here is how I see the comparison break down for AR-15 vs. AK-74: The AR is lighter, more compact, and better balanced. The controls (safety, mag release, trigger) on the AR are better The ergonomics on the AR are better The AR has a greater capacity for accuracy with match grade ammunition. You will not, however see much of a difference shooting cheap ammo. The AK is more accurate than a lot of people think, so long as you don't have a parts gun with a 40 year old shot out military barrel.

    Case dent

What about the case heads? From what I understand, the .223 bolts 'stamp' the case heads and make it very difficult to remove and replace primers. I would get a Saiga .223 in a heartbeat if I could reload for it without killing my brass.
  6. http://m4carbine.net/showthread.php?t=19885 The best 7.62x39 loads have significantly greater wounding potential and boundary penetration than any 5.45x39. The adantage of 5.45 is lighter weight, lower recoil, and flatter shooting for distances. Choose the right tool for the right job.
  7. I need to take mine down, and none of the two dozen or so allen wrenches I have in my tool box fit. Anyone know what size it is supposed to take?
  8. If you are concerned about overpenetration go for a .223/5.56 carbine. A good self defense load such as 75 grain Hornady TAP will be much more effective than any handgun, and (although not zero) the 5.56/.223 has less overpenetration risk than a 9mm, .45, or buckshot. The 5.56 might still be deadly through a few layers of dry wall, but nothing more than that. I started out using a shotgun for HD, but switched to a carbine after running them side by side in simulated HD drills. I was sold by the maneuverability and follow up shot speed. 7.62x39 will go through just about anything, and I w
  9. It is a fair point that quality 5.56 rounds (such as 75 grain Hornady TAP) that fragment reliably after a small amount of travel through tissue are more potent against unobstructed targets than steel core 7.62x39 (or anything available in 5.45). A quality 7.62x39 soft point hunting round such as Winchester X, however, will eclipse even the best 5.56 loads. That said, either will do the job just fine with good shot placement. 7.62x39 offers better boundary penetration, which can be a blessing or a curse depending on the circumstances. 5.56 offers lower recoil, lighter magazines, better inherent
  10. I have owned a Glock 17, M&P, Sig P226, XD, and CZ-75B in 9mm. I have also spent time on P99's, Beretta 92's, and H&K P30's. All things considered, I would get a S&W M&P9 FS with the APEX DCAEK. If you want something with a hammer, get a P30. 11. +1 for ZombiePocalypse. Great buyer, strong communication, fast payment.

  12. +1 for calvin118, bought an item from him, very quick and friendly response, quick shipment, overall great experience.

  13. I went ahead and got one from Mississippi Auto Arms that came the same way. Dimples, round trunnion, no chamber step, and no threads. It also had the electrostamp, but that won't be an issue once all my refinishing is done. Im really happy I got the dimples and no step.
