  1. Welded, I was going to try a different gas block, but Kvar was out when I did it. I am glad I went this way anyway, I didn't have to remove it, just had to make sure I measured twice.
  2. It was over $500, about $540 or something like that, maybe a little more with shipping involved. The 2 bargain quad rail free floats forearms are Yankee hill machine and Olympic FIRSH. On AR15.com in the EE forum is a seller named Bright flashlights, he has the YHM forearms for about $130. The FIRSH are $130 from Olympic and about $130 shipped from http://www.the-armory.com/shopsite_sc/stor...ar15access.html I went with the FIRSH over the YHM because they are a little sturdier, though the YHM look a little better, plus I happened into finding one used but like new for $100 even.
  3. I have 2 on hand Nonconverted Ultraconverted
  4. I have been bargain building AR uppers lately. The last one was a CMT upper, Firsh quad rail free float tube with a 18" Douglas barrel and a PRI flip up front sight block. I probably went about as cheap as you could get and it still ran over 500 when said and done. I wanted a White Oak Armament 1/8 Wilson barrel from ADCO, but found a deal too good to pass up on the Douglas 1/7. Still not quite done. I will probably paint more parts like the riser and need some rail panels. Dang things are adicting, like Saigas Have fun with your new one.
  5. Saigas are better quality than the average WASR out of the box, and they have the advantage if you are a tinkerer up to a master WECSOG graduate to convert to several different configs. I got my 1st 223 one to scratch the AR/223 itch, but it only made it worse since they are not a replacement for one another. They are a great rifle in thht caliber though and I wouldn't trade mine for anything. Well maybe a FNC straight across, but thats about it. Cleveland, its pretty easy to convert them yourself, play around with it and get used to it, prowl through the parts once you get it strip
  6. Cetmes suffer from the same as any of that design with fluted chambers, soft thin walled commercial brass can deform into the flutes and lead to a case separation.
  7. I would have guessed 308, and suspect the guy is either mistaken or has the wrong picture, but I am just repeating what the listing saids. After re reading it though, both that are for sale are 16". I either misread it, or he changed it, and you are not buying the rifles shown for one of the auctions.
  8. Not mercenaries, capitalists. The short one is a 223, the long one a 7.62x39 The pictures dont looks like its a scam, I have not seen stocks like that anywhere, drag polymer type not like Choate or ATI, which would not fit a stock Saiga anyway. The stock may well be worth $200 to someone who wants one configured that way. Thats n0pt me though, I cant stand drag stocks.
  9. PK AVs are good as far as you can see, they have no magnification. For me red dots work for large dog size and up at 100 yards, anything smaller if I want to be sure to hit it, I have to have magnified glass.
  10. Look like weigers to me, no need to reinvent the wheel
  11. I dont think barrel warping is the problem, its throat and rifling erosion from being too hot that effects a barrel more, you would have to heat it up very hot to have the barrel become elastic enough to bend.
  12. I applaud the effort, though I wonder how many will pay the money for a high end rail system. FWIW I voted plastic simply because the weight of SIR system is detrimental to handling, espesially on heavier barreled rifles.
  13. Oh man, dont do it, its a friggin disease. I can't afford to feed the hobby as it is with Saigas alone, much less when It involves 2 platforms to build or modify. The 223 doesnt do everything, but it definitely has its place.
  14. The bimetal bullets have a copper coating over the steel casing that contacts the barrel and prevents barrel wear. It's supposed to not be an issue for barrel wear. Some say the issue is wear on the chamber from the steel case, I am not worried about it myself, you can save enough on ammo to buy barrels several times as you wear them out. Around here Wolf is up to 3 bucks a box for 223 and any mil spec surplus stuff is $4+. My favorite cheap ammo is Barnaul 62hp. 1/7 twist will work on 55 grain bullets, 62 gr. is better but its not too fast for 55 gr. Some info on bul
  15. Wolf will be the cheapest 223 ammo, not all that accurate, but good plinking stuff. Other than that, 223 is going up from a the demand from military. Personally I like Barnaul or Brown/Silver bear, all are made at the same factory. As far as replacement parts there are few factory made parts for it, Tapco and ACE have some parts. Most everything is adapted or made by users. As mentioned there is plenty of info in the forums and it will pay to do some reading.
  16. Good to see ingenuity in action. The one thing I notice when making peep sights is the farther from the eye you mount them, the more they become ghost rings instead of true peep sights. They both work, but they work a little different from each other.
  17. They make the sight, and rail stock is universal. They are a machine shop so they build them up on a cover. Notice they have a different gas block than an AK altogether.
  18. I had a little trouble with 62 grain HP, I beveled the chamber as above, works fine now.
  19. Rooks furinture was OD not Coyote. I know, I thought it was brown also and asked. Like said above it was Tapco stuff, and they now have a tan set that can be painted another shade to be Coyote and work OK.
  20. It may have been brought up, but I just happened to learn of it. For those who want a high end folder but dont want to convert, check it out. http://www.aceltdusa.com/ak.htm
  21. Dont be nervous, you are simply a victim of of internet forum expert testimony from 3rd, 4th, 5th hand info. I have shot everything from wolf to some winchester softpoints and they all ran through it fine. I have used federal brown box MX 193 and it seemed to like it well. Dings the brass pretty good though on ejection.
  22. Or just spend the money on the couple of gas psiton uppers that are out now. No need to reinvent the wheel.
  23. 77hiboy is one those guys you like to sell too, he was asking how to pay before the auction ended. +1
  24. Glad to see you got it going again. Any idea when you may get the tan SAW grips?
  25. Well its in committee, house commitee at that, like most of these it may not make it out of committee. While it good to keep an eye on it, it isnt always neccessary to hit the panic buttons and start emailing and calling your reps yet.
