  1. Yeah, I noticed that too - the deal must be done! Or maybe it was an iternet deal (e-mail special). I personally recommend buying south african - is good stuff.
  2. http://www.natchezss.com Shooter's Supply.
  3. I like the JLD brake - did you guys use a mig welder? Also, would the JLD brake work without modification - that is, left full length and just slipped on and welded in place? TIA
  4. To BRG3's point - the 30 round .308 mag would be a bit unwieldy. I personally would opt for the 20 regardless. -its as long as the standard ak 30 rounder...
  5. Dang Cobra - I've got a Craftsman drill press and a milling vice (my wife got me a nice one for Christmas after I bitched about the cheap chicom one that I was using) So I can get an end mill bit and... hmmm that could be useful for a lot of applications. Like cleaning up my rommie kits for building among other things.
  6. "Return to sender..." That should not have happened - defective scope - send it back for replacement. Freedom Optics will cover you The Russian scopes are known for their ruggedness and this is a good choice IMHO.
  7. I'm a do-it-youselfer but not a pro machinest or welder. I've "built" 9 AK's from Bulgy and Romanian kits on Armory USA receivers and I've modified Wieger mags for my Saiga .223, but I don't feel comfortable with moding my 308 for questionable steel mag conversions. But that's just me
  8. Yes, that is what he is saying - you need to replace one of the countable imported parts with a magic us part and then you can legally use the new 20 round mags. And I agree that the piston is the easiest to replace if you don't want to do a pistol grip conversion.
  9. That's fine - and you will pay a higher price. Yes, I supose that us "pioneers" are taking a risk, but IMHO, a very small one. I fully expect that the FBMG folks will not ship these until they are satisfied with thier quality, fit and function. I am working on a new product myself and I can tell you that it won't go on the market until I am personally satisfied that its right - and that it will function properly, is safe and worth every penny that I ask for it. Edit: What I meant to say is that I won't ship the product until its right - nothing wrong with pre-selling, especially
  10. Is that from the ATF? Ak-47.net's schematic and description say they count the rear trunnion, and they call it a sear.. http://www.ak-47.us/AK47_Parts.php They call the rear trunion a sear? I am a member of AK-47.net and have never seen this. The trunions (plural) count as one part as do the top and bottom handguards (when their's a top and bottom). Even if there is a schematic like you describe, it is wrong. The above parts count list for the stock Saiga 308 is correct. And I repeat: all of this parts count crap is unconstitutional. And we should all file a class a
  11. Personally, all that I worry about is if my guns are legal. Yes, they are. So, no worries I'm looking forward to receiving my mags and once again I thank the FBMG boys for developing and marketing them. Good old American capitalism at work Sitting around and wringing our hands about what the BATFE folks are going to do next is a waste of time IMHO. After all, every infringement of our right to keep and bear is patently unconsititutional - why don't we worry about THAT?
  12. My AK LULA works for all of my AK type mags regardless of caliber. That's MAG LULA.
  13. Barrel length does affect accuracy. A shorter barrel will be stiffer and vibrate more evenly from shot to shot. However, a short barrel is not a guarantee of better accuracy. The muzzle crown has a huge effect on accuracy too - in needs to be even and free of burrs. The trigger is another big factor - a light crisp breaking trigger will do wonders for group size. Of course the chamber, barrel dimensions and condition all effect accuracy as well. Sorry if I'm giving too much information If you are going to be using the issue iron sights, the longer sight radius of the the 22" barre
  14. Well, I agree - I don't like them and would prefer a standard AK type fsb. As to moving it back, you'll have to open-up the muzzle end to do that as it tapers like a cap with a hole in it - they just press it on till it won't go any further and then cross drill and pin. To fit a standard AKM fsb, the diameter of the end of the barrel will have to be reduced - there isn't enough material on the fsb to open it up to fit. That means either removing the barrel to allow the use of a lathe or the use of a specialized rotary cutter to remove material. I was thinking of messing with this but
  15. Second the Red Star VEPR 308 fcg - it should be drop-in but you may need to trim the receiver a little - it will have some side-to-side movement but I've experienced no function problems from that - and it can be fixed with properly dimensioned spacers. As to the stocks - the Saiga has a standard AKM rear receiver/trunion and will take most any standard buttstock. The front handguards are a different story of course. Some more acronyms: gb = gas block, bho = bolt hold open, rsb = rear sight base, fh = flash hider, pg = pistol grip, bs = butt stock hmm that's all I can think of ri
  16. They'll get here I'm just glad to see my name on the paid list now - thanks again Pvt. Pyle
  17. Yes Pancho, you were way off - it was just one of his nuts
  18. NO doubt a SKS is a good choice if you live in that Commie state. I am so glad I don't live in the So called "Republic of Kalifornia" I mean I can't even Pistol pack in that darn State.(Even though I have a permit in another state) If I can't Pistol pack I won't live there. Or maybe I would...... Pack Naked as my uncle calls it. That is to say pistol packed with out a permit. Come to think of it I would. But I don't have to worry about it. I wouldn't be shocked if they soon ban the SKS in Kali. Because it was a model used in combat and since it is has the capcity of killing people
  19. Basic commercial Russian scope. Looks to be a fixed power - 8x? Before you do anything, loosen the rings and rotate your scope to the right, so that the knobs are on top and to the right. The scope is on crooked right now. This will put the elevation knob on top and the windage knob on the right (as you hold the rifle ready to shoot). Sight the scope in by shooting at a known distance and adjusting the elevation and windage knobs until zero'ed. Then, loosen the little screws on top of the adjustment knobs and while holding the drum still (lower level/base of the knob) rotate the
  20. What about a good SKS? I mean, you can reload them in a snap with 10 round stripper clips...
  21. Ah! of course... thanks for the twist tie explanation!

http://www.freedomoptics.com and they take regular, available at walmart ,3 volt batteries. And I'm not sure they have the "V" here - may have to look around for that one - another place: http://tantal.kalashnikov.guns.ru/
  23. yes - the one designated for the VEPR 308 works well. AK-308 - glad to hear its working now!
