  1. Not quite so easy. These are slimmer openings (you're not just finishing what Century started).
  2. i know this is a dumb-ish question... but i'm only 6months old here... given the existance of ak flats... i'm surprised no one has mad their own reciever is there a reason no one has? Your question would probably get a lot more answers on AkFiles or AKForum. You'd not believe the number of folks who make their own receivers from flats. I don't think there is too much call for them here (since the Saigas come with a receiver).
  3. Quite easily. Century imports them this way, mills out the mag well and adds 922r parts. This site will help a lot: http://www.gunsnet.net/Linx310/ Don't forget your 922r parts. That rifle has none at the moment.
  4. No, the cartridge shape won't allow for reliable use. You can change the follower and use .223 in them, but not 7.62x39
  5. You mean the same ATF that said a shoestring was a machine gun? Or the same ATF who conspired to intercept a package with a malfunctioning AR15 in it (owned by a State Trooper) on its way to Colt for repairs so they could charge him with owning an illegal machine gun? As has been seen, they'll perjure themselves, rescind old rulings and institute new ones if they want to get you.
  6. It will, if it's US made. A lot of pictures of Saigas are taken by owners who don't play CYA with the 922r very well.
  7. You'd have to measure the ID of the front sight block to see if it'd fit your saiga.
  8. I don't see how changing this: to this: would get you in 922r hot water, as it can be shown that it was imported with this stock. Using some other foreign stock might be different.
  9. I once found a letter from the ATF regarding high cap mags in sporting rifles, but like an idiot, I didn't bookmark or save it. Until I can find it again, I preach CYA. Has anyone been busted for 922r noncompliance? None we know of. Do you want to be the first?
  10. Thanks, that's what I thought. So, if I replace a factory foreign butt stock with a foreign thumbhole the parts count is a wash...even-Steven, foreign for foreign (as is the case with my Saigas.) Are there any added implications if it is a foreign folding stock? Buzz If you add a US made thumbhole stock, you'll gain a US made buttstock and a US made pistol grip and will need to add some more US parts to comply with 922r (since you've changed it from iss imported condition). If you add a foreign made folding stock (with or w/o a pistol grip), you'll be changing the 'sporting co
  11. The 922r says you can have no more than 10 foreign made parts. It doesn't tell you which ones you have to use to get to that number. Have fun.
  12. A muzzle nut is considered a 'thread protector', not a muzzle device.
  13. Barnaul, Wolf and Vympel are all former military ammo factories. All their ammo is pretty much the same as far as quality (at least as far as 7.62x39 and .223 go) Wolf Gold is not made in Russia, but Czechoslavakia or Yugoslavia and it uses brass cases and is generally more expensive, but still not as good as Remington / Winchester / other domestic manufacturer.
  14. From the pix, it does appear to be blowback. I tried to track down some more info from the info in the OP, but I can't read Russian
  15. Do you have the link to the larger pictures? Thanks
  16. So long as it's a US made Drag stock, you should be fine. You'll have US parts as follows: 1) buttstock 2) pistol grip 3) trigger 4) hammer 5) disconnector The 922r only says you can't have over 10 imported parts, it doesn't tell you which ones to use or not use. That is up to you.
  17. The Saiga-M isn't a shotgun.
  18. Where have you been? They've been importing and selling these for a few months now. http://www.raacfirearms.com/Saiga_option.htm
  19. No, because the G2 trigger will require him to rip off the bottom plate of his receiver and do a full conversion. The saiga factory triggers are convoluted rube-goldberg-contraptions designed so you can't easily replace them with standard AK triggers. Or, in other words: on a factory Saiga, the hole in the receiver for the trigger, is actually the hole where you screw the pistol grip in, on a real AK. You can't use a G2 trigger in a factory Saiga w/o doing lots of work to the rifle.
  20. The muzzle brake looks like a J-Tac brake of some kind. http://jtacsupply.com/catalog/muzzle-devices-c-45.html also http://www.ak-builder.com/ak/index.php
  21. as i understand, you'll want the SINGLE hook trigger (though a double can be made to work with some effort). the tapco G2 single hook seems to be the commonly used one, though i've read about another one from somebody, somewhere that's supposed to be real nice. the G2 is widely available for around $35, but i just ordered one last night from JSEsurplus for $27 plus $5 shipping, this is the best deal around on this unit. i asked for the lowdown on this operation before ordering and got the thumbs up. hope this helps.......m He has an unconverted Saiga and has no plans to convert. Your idea
  22. You guys keep a lookout, those $69.99 ones are still out there. I just looked at DSA, and they don't show them any more, either.
