  1. Thanks to all, I will pass the word, as the project is no longer in my hands. I appreciate all the help! Also, I did look, but saw nothing specific about what I was looking for-- but then too, I no longer spend as much time here as I used to, so I may have missed something. You have my full permission to think whatever you want, since you will anyway.
  2. My boss, knowing that I have converted a Saiga-12 or two, brought me his brother-in-law's S-12 to look at because it was short-stroking. My first thought was "Vodka?"-- we pulled apart the gas system and discovered four gas ports, only two of which were deep enough to actually see any daylight through (and not very much daylight at that). "Aha," I say to myself, and drill out the ports to .077" and slap it back together. Now-- it still short-strokes. Any ideas from you guys on what to check next? Any ideas would be most welcome! Thanks-- Lee
  3. South of Tacoma, out behind JBLM here. Haven't been in much lately, had some other fish to fry.
  4. As for myself, I remember the pain and grief that AGP went through to bring us a domestic ten-round mag that functioned for a reasonable price, in the days when the only other mag choice over five rounds was the Russian eight-rounders, which were selling for over $150 if you could find one. The chicken-little types gave them no end of hell-- did the same to Mike Davidson, too. After they proved it could be done and that the market was there, then the other companies jumped into the market. These two firms deserve our gratitute and respect, and they will always get my product dollar every time.
  5. Very nice work, Professor. If I were still a Gentleman Adventurer I would purchase one forthwith, but age has taken its toll, alas-- but I have no doubt that House Wulfenbach will shortly order your entire output. Well done, Sir. (Obviously you're not the only one who has been reading too much Girl Genius . . . )
  6. Here in Washington State we have an extreme-left-wing Governor named Christine Gregoire. When she first ran for office the State had a $3 billion dollar surplus; within four years we were $5 billion in the hole. Guess what? The sheople re-elected her. Now she's making noises about how deep in debt we are (duh) and is scraping the bottom of the barrel for every cent in revenue she can find-- this "use tax" is part of the deal. It's state-wide, and no getting around it, at least for firearm purchases. ETA: Forgot to mention that Gregoire was the woman who brought you five-dollar-a-pack cig
  7. This is truly great news! I too will order at least eight of the quad-stack mags for my AK74s, and I-don't-know-how-many double-stack shotgun mags. And while you're setting up your stamping gear, please just take a few minutes to consider how hard it would be (not very) to reverse-engineer and build an all-American-made Saiga 12-- we've already seen that the Govt wants to shut down their import, and it may be the only way to guarantee an unbroken supply of them. Just sayin', that's all-- just think about it please. Thanks, and congratulations again!
  8. Speaking as someone who works within the firearms industry, with some insight as to what it takes to bring a new product to market: Leave the man alone. When he has something to add, he will say so. Until then, hounding him for information (which will mostly be the same information you got last time, only less politely delivered) will just keep him from the designing board and out of the shop, where the real work happens. He can hold your hand, or he can buckle down and get to work, unimpeded. Which do you want?? I know what I want. I want as many double-stackers as I can afford. M
  9. This started well before Mike's drum-- as memory serves, the Chicken Littles began squawking when the boys at AGP announced their ten-round mag, in '05 I think. "Common wisdom" was that anything made domestically over five rounds (the standard Russian 8 rounder being quite scarce, and not normally imported) was going to cause the sky to fall and all of us to lose our guns. A whole lot of the threads had titles that looked just like this one. It's been five years, and they still haven't reclassified the guns--
  10. Interesting-- not earth-shattering, but interesting none the less: I tried to log into the New Store today to see when I got my drums on the $100 preorder, and it won't recognize my account. Do I need to start a new account? Like I said, not a big deal, just curious-- ETA: Da-- doublestacks, pazhalsta!
  11. I use a fifteen-year-old grandson and a handtruck. All seriousness aside, I've been meaning to take one of my new MD drums over to the Tactical Tailor, which is not far from me, to see how bad a fit it is in a SAW pouch, and how much it will cost to get a few made up if it is a really bad fit. I hate that place; every time I go there I never have any balance on my credit cards when I leave . . . I'll let y'all know what I find out.
  12. I have no doubt that such a VPG system could be operated smartly enough to allow the bolt to return to battery freely. I would be very surprised if that weren't the case. The snagging and breakage, though, could be an issue. In the old stock I seem to remember that a purpose-built op rod was provided-- but it was a very long time ago . . .
  13. Please pardon me- really not trying to be obstructive-- mereloy an observation. How do you make one of Mike's drums work with a mag well?? That is the biggest block to my trying one, at this point. Also, back before the Assault Weapon Ban (yes, kids, I'm an Old Fart) someone was making a stock (I believe it was for a Mini-14) in which the fore end functioned the operating rod, like a slide-action shotgun. It looked to be blazing fast for clearing misfires and misfeeds. Then the Ban hit and many good ideas were swept away as folks grabbed anything they could get of a Preban nature. I have t
  14. Mine too-- order #12051 shipped yesterday. Paid the deposit, balance on credit card Tuesday night. They are really are kicking them out. Thanks, guys, I had faith in you! Now if the weather will just break so I can take the kids out and show them what the Saiga can do . . . ETA: Big Brown dropped them off at work this morning, 15 June. I am a happy boy. That is quick shipping from Ohio-- Ground usually takes at least a week. Now I wish I'd ordered about ten of'em!
