  1. We've got some spinner targets down near the 50 yard tree to plink at, then up close for handguns I have a frame that I welded together out of some old bed frames that folds down for when we shoot the farther distance targets, we usually blow up ballons to shoot at all over the place, freeze some gallon jugs of water, stuff like that but not much as neither of us likes to spend a lot of time cleaning up after shooting.
  2. This is my buddy's place where we shoot. We call the target holders "trees".
  3. Don't forget the Bacon Spam! And yes, there are knockoff Spam's out there, some are quite good, others not. The Walmart and Aldi's is ok. I like to slice it about 1/4" thick and then fry it in some butter till it browns then slap it on toast, great for breakfast, or cut up in little chunks into scrambled eggs. Also fry up some slices and have that along with fried taters. yeah buddy... I lost most of my taste buds back in the late 70's early 80s when we still got issued C rations. Used to take the cracker can, cut slots around the top of it then fill it about half full of dirt, moisten
  4. I carry a Ruger P95. Bought it new for under $340 total. Eats whatever I load it with. Accurate. Just bought a .50 Traditions ML a couple of hours ago for my "next" gun purchase, gonna try out the black powder for awhile.
  5. I'm in Missouri as well, I just kept my Saiga 10 rounder and picked up a Tapco one off ebay. I don't plan on shooting more than one round at a deer, now if we go after the wild hogs, I'll have a 30 rounder in.
  6. Then you'll more than likely love the hell out of it. If you have any feed problems just tweak the mag ears, double feed or nose up, bring them in, nose into the feed ramp loosen them up a little, I have the specs on the .40 mags, .45 shouldn't be a whole lot different, the mags are the same except they put a plastic spacer in the front of the 40 ones.
  7. There's two reasons I'm not a BIG supporter of their firearms. One, the firing pin is also used as the ejector, so it's exposed while during the extraction/ejection process. You will end up with bent firing pins over time, if it double feeds the pin usually takes a pretty good bump. That being said, you can call UP up and they will send you one to keep as a replacement (just tell them your's is bent), and just watch your expended cases, you'll see the primer strikes start walking off to the side and can take care of it before it's a major problem. Two, the safety on these is a sear block, not
  8. It'll be deer and wild hogs with that particular rifle. I am looking for particular recommendations because I'll probably make the drive up to Cabela's and pick up a few different kinds, so if anyone had problems with one brand I'd probably not waste my money on them and stick with stuff that everyone liked. I'm sure they carry the Wolf, it seems to be everywhere. I sold my SW40VE so will be making the rounds of the local gun shops, there's a new one just outside of town that I haven't been in yet, I'll be looking for a small frame revolver or 9mm for a BUG and summer carry locally, I'll c
  9. Well, I bought my first Hi Point about 6 years ago because I had a psycho soon-to-be ex-wife that had an alcoholic new boyfriend that lived just a little too close and liked to make threats, and I had sold all my firearms soon after the wife had developed her new hobby of living on gin, so had nada in the house for protection other than a stick and a pellet rifle. Bought one of the .40 JCP handguns, probably shot 1k rounds through it over the years. The magazine that came with it functioned perfect, the other ones I bought didn't, the ears on them were all sorts of wrong, so I set them to the
  10. Anyone have any experience with a reliable soft point or hollow point ammunition in 7.62x39? I could spend a bundle just trying out different kinds, and I have to drive up into St. Louis or buy online since the local sources only carry FMJ rounds.
  11. Classic has taken some pretty good hits across some of the other forums, and I've only ordered twice from them and had stellar service. First one was a Mosin 91/30 bought with my brand new C&R FFL, had it in my hands three days after ordering it by phone. The Saiga I bought using their online checkout, it's a bit wrong as it says (or said, might be changed) that I would get a notification when it shipped and I didn't. Called after three days and asked, they said it was shipped that same day, so called my FFL and he said yep, it's here. The Mosin was actually in better condition than they h
  12. Looks like you'll have to remove it every time you want to take the cover off, other than that it will get the benefit of the lower mount to reduce parallax in the scope since it'll be a little closer to inline with the bore. I just bought a cheap Chinese one, works fine and I don't have to take it off.
  13. Thanks for that! Reading is essential Mine is a version '03' as well. What was your 'Extreme spread of impacts (4 bullets) @ 100 metres'??? Mine says 138mm. Says 137mm. 5.39 inches...not sure if they fire it in a gun vise, if they do it must not be tightened down as both me and my buddy were getting two inch three shot groups at 50 yards and three inch at 100! No vise, but shooting off his bench and a Caldwell rest.
  14. I put the Leapers 3-9x32 on it, we zeroed it last weekend, put 200 rounds through it and it held zero fine, we shot about 3" groups at 100 yards, much better than Ivan said he did with it at the factory, see how much help a scope is?
  15. I bought a Saiga from Classic a couple of months ago, the 16" barrel, paid $319 for it, it's the military version with the dimples and no step in the chamber, but other than that it was just the sporter version, I had to do the conversion myself. If you look in the white "certificate" book, on page 5 there should be a notation as to what version it is, mine says "03". Then you look on page 4 of the green "Service manual" and find the version that you have at the bottom of the pages, then look to see what letter the drawing is for that version. Mine, being an 03, was drawing letter (d).
  16. I've got a 41 Tula round receiver that I picked up for my first purchase on my C&R FFL, just finished putting together a "Mutt" 1937 Tula round receiver, picked up the stripped receiver and barrel then threw a bunch of spare parts from a Chinese Type 53 on it. Anyone wants front sight adjusting tools let me know, lol.
  17. I've got one like that...when I got my C&R FFL, she handed me $100 and told me to order that Mosin that I'd been eyeing. Then on my birthday, she came in and handed me an Armscor M1500 .22 because she knows I like the oddball firearms, guy at work had it for sale so she thought it would be a nice addition. Last weekend she insisted that I go on down to our buddy's place to shoot without her, as she is still recovering from neck surgery and knew I wanted to shoot the Saiga post-conversion. While there, my buddy was telling me I needed to pick up a black powder rifle so I could go deer hunti
  18. Must have been a Photoshop project. That thing would weigh like a bazillion pounds, and shooting both of them off at the same time would instantly make you sterile I'd bet...
  19. Well, I only have about 250 through mine since conversion so I can't attest to the longevity of the setup. As to the tapping oil, I blew it out with an air hose then shot some carb cleaner through it, but watch it if you've repainted the receiver where the old trigger plate was as the carb cleaner can dissolve that paint if its anywhere near fresh. I would think that a pipe cleaner and 91% rubbing alcohol would clean it out as well. If you get a buildup of oil and such around the screw head, why not clean it up real well and mix up a bit of two part epoxy and just fill it in? I would t
  20. I agree that some of the cheap crap out there is something that you should be able to just look at and see that it's just not going to do what you want it to do, but that doesn't keep a crapton of people from buying it. My sight tools that I make run about ten bucks less than the other ones out there, I'm thinking that might be a factor. Buyers just aren't used to finding a good deal that's just that, and shipping included in the price seems to throw a lot of them off. I guess that's just the difference in a guy who's doing it as a hobby and a business that's trying to crank them out at a high
  21. Girlfriend is saying someone must have drugged him, or else it was a voodoo curse that was put on him, being that he was a Haitian and all.
  22. I was more surprised that they were charging basically $40 for five minutes work. I don't think I could sleep very well at night if I charged like that.
