  1. I agree with Corbra76two and GunFun. Just take it slow. After following the advice only put on addition/modifications that as needed and/or useful.
  2. Good job! Very smart not advertizing your weapon and thereby scaring the anti-gun folk plus attacking criminals wanting more firepower. My Saiga 12 goes in a non-gun case so no one knows what I have, just like you.
  3. +1 I guess if you have money to burn and time to waste you could argue with ObiWan. Personally, I really like how Saiga 12's and other AK's factory finish looks when they have been used and battle worn. Looks more like it is a weapon and not a toy. I am not against refinishing your rifle though ChunkyMonkey. If done right you could have a nice looking shotgun like the pictures below (photos posted by diable_noir on another site).
  4. I always thought it strange hearing my fellow Americans say I only by American products in this world economy. I love America and want us to succeed but I also have a budget and want more bang for my buck. Since I was a kid I saw American products slowly lower in quality and foreign products slowly rise in quality. I shop at Walmart to save. Most of their products are made in China. While at my High School (1976) they handed me a sledge hammer to bash an imported car to pieces to demonstrate resistance to importation of foreign made goods. I thought that was odd too. My opinion on how
  5. I never had any problems loading my factory or any other magazine on my Saiga 12 (S12). Did not do anything to it. I am surprised so many people say they're having this problem. I can not comment on drums though; do not have any because they are too bulky to me.
  6. Hi, I have the Nato length Bonesteel Galil folding stock and it is wider than the fixed stock my Saiga 12 came with. So from fseusa.com website information on this stock: "It will NOT fit Yugoslavian wood buttstocks or many thumbhole type sporter stocks." and "When creating the mold for this part, I decided to make the recoil pad fit tighter. If you already have an original grenade launching recoil pad, you will notice that the FSE made pad fits more securely on all stocks, with virtually no wobble." and from a reviewer WARNING: This recoil pad does not fit a factory Saiga 12 stock (sp
  7. +1 Some guys on this forum are really good at doing their own gunsmithing. But for the average Joe it is possible to mess things up. If you can afford it have a professional do you FCG. I was lucky in buying an already converted Saiga 12 in Anchorage. Be careful not to become a "Kitchen Gunsmith" (see video below).
  8. Oops. Sorry ObiWanBonJovi, I get passionate about certain things and get carried away. In the end which side your folding stock swings is more of a personal decision. I am extremely happy with the Bonesteel Galil Style stock I bought and to all who are considering it I would say go for it for your Saiga. It is of the highest quality. It's lockup is really solid and will stay that way for a long, long time. Since it doesn't have a recoil pad (like Military ones) you might want to get some type of pad for range practice and/or very powerful loads.
  9. Netpackrat said: "I will not be anything but derogatory towards those evil, communist fuckers. They are a menace to all peaceful and free people, worldwide. And especially to those countries unfortunate enough to be their neighbors." Then let everyone on this forum who does not prejudge a person for their race, religion, belief, or political views condemn you and have nothing to do with you Netpackrat. From your own words you do not see the difference in an oppressive dictator, a tyrannical government, corrupt leaders, and the individual person. You judge by color, race, group, reli
  10. Thanks your very thorough points Netpackrat. After HighPlainDrifter statement above I believe we have made our points clear. The only thing I will respond to is your derogatory term for North Koreans. I believe respect for all people should be followed on this forum. I get very personal when this is not.
  11. Said by Netpackrat "All that video proves is that with enough practice you can work around something that is stupid." So maybe he believes that adapt, overcome, and improvise by the USMC is stupid too. Said by Netpackrat "By transport, I mean in a vehicle." Just so you know some people don't own cars (like myself) and transport their rifles/shotguns by carrying them. As an Alaskan I though you knew that. Said by Netpackrat "The Norks? Seriously? It would have made a lot more sense to post pictures of the Russians." No need to get racist. These are just opinions. If you want to bel
  12. The pictures below show how that the right side folder is favored and carried by some of the people who use them daily as a main battle weapon. Also you can get an idea of how the Saiga 12 would be transported if it were used by the North Koreans.
  13. Good point. One of the more common accidental gunshot wounds seen on the battlefield is from soldiers shooting themselves in the knee and having the 5.56 bullet exit somewhere around the ankle. Very nasty wound. This from the one point sling carry method where the muzzle is pointing down and to the left. Wish I had the video to post of the doctor/surgeon explaining this.
  14. I thought walking in the woods with a folded stock i.e. transporting it, was considered "carry"? Anyway, I think ObiWanBonJovi is totally correct in that the right side folded stock (for right handed people) is very quick to deploy and is best; see below video. Note: I'm not a soldier so this is my opinion from using my Saiga.
  15. Welcome to this forum . You will learn a lot and have most of your questions answer in the pinned topic. So check that out too. I started my rifle collection with a Rock River Arm's M4 style AR-15 but didn't like the way it shot or the disassemblely/reassembly procedures. When I switched to the AK platform I was in love; it shot easier and was totally simple to take apart and put back together. Also, I have never had a jam in one (note: I have not shot my Saiga 12 (S12) with birdshot yet. As far as the magwell on the S12, the regular factory rock & lock system works well for me. Wi
  16. Mine (right folding Galil stock) took a month because I ordered when they were out of stock/back-ordered and it was around Christmas time. All of Bonesteel products seem to be top notch. If you have the patience and money you will be rewarded with the best. Quote from above post: "I didn't like the idea of waiting either, but I'm 110% glad."
  17. Not a bad price considering our present situation with a possible gun band. Cabela's in Hamburg, PA will probably be out of Saiga 12 by closing time today.
  18. Maybe you should reconsider that decision. I recommend the red dot. As back up sights you can get attachable iron sights of your choice, co-witnessed if you prefer. The reason for a Red Dot sight is it faster has given the US Military (and other world militaries) faster target acquisition time against an enemy using iron sights. Seconds count for a self-defense or offensive weapon. The below report is cut and pasted from another forum: Unfortunately target graphic was not available. 29 December 2010 PRELIMINARY REPORT OF THE COMPARATIVE PISTOL PROJECT By James E. Ryan, D.P.A. A
  19. I understand your hesitation kshew97. You have an investment there in the Saiga 12. if you bought the rifle with your hard earned money taking advise from some guy on the internet is a little dangerous. But I recommended you get someone who has done this before to help you (it's still manly to as for help) or send it out to be done.
  20. +1 Check out this link to a directly related thread: Bonesteel Arms folding stock for Saiga 12 - First Impressions

  22. I bought three (3) Keepshooting Saiga 12, 5 round magazines when they were in stock at Keepshooting.com on December 11th. Ever since then they have been sold out like most places. Your best bet albeit expensive is places like eBay. If you can wait for about a (1) year then prices should be down and stock up.
  23. I second misterT's advice but be careful of going too far with this especially profiling and polishing. If your firearm works reliably without any other modification that's all you need. Check the below video out on this topic. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=endscreen&NR=1&v=MawzcjM5dYc I think this applies to all weapons not just handguns.
