Bought the movie at wallyworld in the dump bin. Hadn't seen it in ages and didn't remember most of it. It won 7 acadamy awards in 1970, including best picture. Back when movies were worth watching. It almost seemed Hollywood was PRO - USA when this was made. Hard to imagine, both the Hollywood slant, and all the trials and tribulations we had to go through in Hitlers reign, as now.

Patton was truly the man that was needed at the moment in time.

Now I have a question that someone out there may know the answer to:

As shown at several times Patton had 2 pistols on his belt (actually carried more than that), one was a Colt SAA in 45 Long Colt and the other a S&W 357 that became the bases for the model 28 N frame. The story is as I understand it before he went to the Smith he actually had a brace / 2 matched Colts but he gave one to an entertainer as a reward for putting on a show for the troops.

Did this really happen and if so who was the entertainer that got Patton's other Colt SAA?

The reason that movie was "pro-USA" was because of cold war and patriotic(nationalistic) push at the time. While that guy had his time and place he had some major screws loose; I would even dare to say I'm glad he was gone as we would probably have ended up in Fallout3-like universe with him at the wheel.

You have to take any "documentaries" with an industrial size grain of salt. Many of them were made on the order of US government back in the day, plus rarely do you want people to hear about any of the bad sides of that individual and they ratehr see him/her idolized. Every country dose it, everyone has their "perfect hero" so to speak...

I had the entire opening speech from that film memorized when I was younger.

I can still recite most of it.

Great movie. The only thing that bothers me about that era of war films is the way they use US Vietnam era tanks, slap an iron cross on it and call it a Tiger.021.gif

My dad took me to see that movie when I was 6-I liked it then and still do. Dad drove a Sherman tank in WW2 and loved the man as one of the troops, I can remember him making remarks about really being pissed about the General getting in trouble over the soldier slapping issue. I think he was one of those guys that just inspired his men.

When people talk about "break glass in case of war" that was Patton. Just think how different the world would be, if they had let him take the russians. So sad that in todays world he would be considered a brutal animal.

People forget that Patton rebuilt West Germany, McArthur rebuilt Japan and Ike led the US to the golden era. Some pretty smart ole boys :smoke:

Hello

Have you looked into Lt. Col. Allen West (Ret), the Congressman from S. Florida who was forced to retire from the Army when he made scathing remarks about the events leading up to the Fort Hood terrorist attack while on tour in Iraq?

He impresses me as having "True Grit". He is also a magnificent orator, a brilliant scholar, and a born leader.

He refuses to "quit" his current employers until they give him their blessing via petition to toss his hat into the National ring.

I believe the Colonel may be the best hope to pull our once proud Country out of this Politically Correct, libtard-fueled tailspin we seem to be destined to endure.

I think I would feel like 6500 RPM's Dad feels about Gen. Patton; I would be proud to call Allen West my leader!

I can't say that about anybody else I have had the chance to vote for in my life.

Please, check into any of the many websites such as the one beneath my avatar and see/hear for yourselves what the Colonel has to offer. Sign the petitions and spread the word, we need all the word of mouth we can get.

Our Country needs him desperately!

JMHO...

A man with Patton's ideology would never survive in this political climate. It's sad, though, as we could use a President that does not have a Man-gina.

Amen. If Patton were around today he would be crucified by the fucktards in charge. Can you imagine the girlish screams of protest from the politically correct herd at some of the statements Patton actually made? I mean Mighty Kenyan and his crew of socialist pussies would actually stroke out over a man as honest and as frank as Patton was!
