Honest Evaluation of the "SHTF" concept

Recommended Posts

I'm looking at generator options to add to my M35A2. (deuce and a half... multifuel 6x6)

I can feed it waste oil/hydraulic fluid, gasoline, etc. It gets a little over 10mpg and 1/2gph at 1100rpm running the pto. In my area we have oil wells, and I can filter and refine crude if I have to. As a benefit, it can haul/tow 20k lbs on road and 10k off. Logs, drums of liquids, etc...

QE3 was just hinted at/announced... as inflation rises, major purchases will become harder. You might want to get any big toys out of the way first. And prioritize the ones that offer the greatest return/earning potential if you lost your job/pension/savings.

I put off my revocable trust/NFA purchases to fund this. It can work to earn it's keep and help support the family even without zombies... and if everything falls apart I can build a can in a day with no concern for NFA laws that wouldn't be in effect anyway. See the logic? Plan for the not-so-bad first, and the OMG later.

Not-so-bad with shortages and no money is a near certainty... OMG/TEOTWAWKI is a very long shot.

I would add that an attack on our power grid and our ports would spiral our country into chaos and anarchy.

The power grid literally sends us back to the stone age. A nuke or EMP in the right place will create this.

The ports creates a logistics nightmare that will also shutdown the flow of the majority of oil in our country since less than 30% is produced here. Goods would likely shoot up in value exponentially and transportation of food and consumables would be prohibitively expensive.

Lastly, a localized natural disaster like a hurricane, earthquake, or volcano can obviously create isolated SHTF scenarios.

It isn't just one potential cause.

The civil unrest will be the downfall. look at Katrina, look at power outage, look at these occupy damn things. There is a very large group of people in the US who do not, can not, and will not do what it takes to support themselves. Entitlement will be the downfall. The government is not afraid of those described above. they will heard them up and into a refugee camp they go, by the truck loads. The government fears people like me, like us, like those who do not depend on their handouts and support. They fear me because they have no control over me. They fear me because I will stand at the gates of their camps and not be part of their plan. They fear me. They fear us.

Deflation is a market correction and if you don't believe Keynesian economics, which states that governments injecting money will help economies, deflation is a good thing as it is correcting inflation. Keynesian economics is what led the FED to dump the entire GDP for a year of the USA into bailouts for failing banks. Did you notice that 14 trillion help? I sure didn't. PURE SHTF GENIUS; Don't take a loan. Don't ever take a loan. Save money and everything else that you might need or want. By the way saving money is the cause of deflation under Keynesian theory.

What is more likely

Zombies, the downfall of the USA (which by the way has an economy that is 40% of the USA, I think we are safe because that doesn't take into account countries we own), mass genocide, mass extinction

or a job layoff, pay-cut, injury, illness, change in laws regarding money, death in the family, house fire, hurricane, flood (even from a broken pipe), divorce or new baby?

For SHTF, don't take a loan, have at least 6mo of food for every member of the family (even dogs and livestock), have 6 months of expenses in cash, DON'T take a loan, and train. Soon you will be living very differently. I can do what I want because I'm not risking everything when I try something new at work. I have seen my pay go up as a result of living right. My stress level is much less than other people with DEBIT, and my wife and I have a better relationship.

As for that M35A2, I'd suggest getting spare parts, filters, belts, fluids and tires. Remember to change the compressor air filter every oil change if it has air brakes and not hydra-boost, so have as many oil filters as air filters for the compressor. And oil might not be coming for that bad boy so have some Rotella T on hand. Be careful with optional fuels, you may need a fuel heater and other pricy gadgets. My brother has a multi-fuel Mercedes. He has to do one of his fuel filters every oil change. He has four fuel filters/de-waterers. He uses a centrifuge to filter the oil and still needs the four filters. Just saying try it out and do a god job on the mods because a lot of people say multi-fuel and don't have a clue what that entails. You can't just dump hydro fluid or fry grease into the gas tank.

Air over hydraulic brakes... no worries. The hypercycle engine is a different beast than a diesel. I'm quite familiar.. which is why I got the truck.

What does this mean?

Translation: The Federal Reserve is printing a metric shitload of US$ out of thin air to give to wealthy bankers and politicos in Europe. Your money buys less and you were just taxed that purchasing power by Ben Bernanke with ZERO say in the matter.

Bend over and take it..... if you didn't love it like this, you wouldn't let it happen... *wait for the donkey-punch*

As for loans... yeah. Get them. Hyperinflation IS COMING... with interest rates negative, you would be foolish not to abuse the situation. You pay back the loan with worthless cash. But check the fine print about inflationary adjustments to the loan repayment amount. The banks aren't stupid, and many have fine print to account for possible hyper-inflation, in which case it's a crap-shoot.

Food for thought... Remember "Black Friday"? All the violence and insanity for a discount on TVs and games? How bad do you think it will be when they are fighting over food in a bread line?
