New York Legal Saiga 12 stocks please help

Recommended Posts

I am sure this has been covered in the past but I could not find it. Sorry. I am currently in the market for a Saiga 12 but do the fact that I live in new york I am limited on the configuration and features that I am allowed. I have a few questions before I go ahead and buy it hopefully some of my fellow New Yorkers can help.1) My first question is what magazine capacity is allowed I know rifle's is 10 but I am told 5 unless I make it 922r compliant is this correct? 2) My understanding is that I am not allowed to have a pistol grip either So can I put a thumbhole stock? what are my options please show pictures if you have them. Thanks in advance for any help.

Yeah, Keep with the 5 round mags untill your 922r compliant, then you can run 10 round mags. No more than 10 though.

I run the stocks you were linked to on all of my converted S-12s. When I do the last one that will make 3 S-12s with that stock. I highly recomend it.

http://www.mississip...tock-p-420.html I have this as well it is one above about a pound heavier and is a little longer. Also Red Jacket used one of the advanced stocks on Mikey's gun on Sons of guns that Will brought up here to NY so I would say it's OK. http://dsc.discovery...ay-shotgun.html MAA is a BM so I hope it was ok to link. (doen't want a nail bomb in my mail box) Also the box of the Advanced tech says made in America but the stock has no stamp. It should be a 922r compliance part i guess. Not sure so I didn't use it in my parts count. I have the Bulgarian stock on my gun now. Edited by rnemhrd

Also what hand guard is on those 12's ? Do they come with those sights? Thanks

The top handguard is a chopped up and re welded chaos quad top with a stock chaos lower. The sights are H&K and the rear mount with the MP5 style rail is Tromix.

The bottom is just a regular bolt on extended quad with AR BUIS.

I have changed the setup on the bottom gun to a titan rail top and the Chaos iron sights. those sights on that platform is great.

How much did you pay for the hand guard on the bottom one with the built in sights? And where did you get it? Is it made by chaos? Thanks.

Yes the Bottom one is A chaos rail, and I ditched the AR BUIS in favor of the lower sitting(you'll want that) CHAOS H&K sights.

If you run the Chaos quad and sights I would recomend getting a primary arms micro dot. They will cowitness.

Just looked at the Chaos site. It seems some people have done some christmas shopping, He is on back order, and so is Carolina Shooter Supply, Mississippi Auto Arms, and Tac-47.

Best bet if you want them is to hop on the list. They are in demand.

I put this up on another site I am sorry to beat the dead horse but I need to make a decision asap. Honestly I want the one everyone has linked me to that our forum member is selling but I am weary of its legality.

know this has been beaten to death but I m still unclear as to what stock I can put on my Saiga 12. After a long time of waiting and research I finally purchased my 1st S12.

I have narrowed it down to 3 but only one really makes legal sense to me and it is the least desirable of the choices. I have been told they are all legal and told 1 is not. I will explain further.

1. RAA skeloten stock-

http://store.a51tactical.com/index.p...oducts_id=1992

+ pistol grip is clearly behind the reciever and all ny'ers say its legal/ - ugly and length of pull looks short

2. Kvar thumbhole-

http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.ph...cat=367&page=3

looks true to thumbhole design for legality purpose / - requires fcg conversion putting "grip" area "beneath the action"

3. Choate mak-90-Draganuv stock-

http://www.riflestock.com/catalog_pa...&NewProduct=0#

+ description says thumbhole and nicest looking / - Description says thumbhole but it clearly looks like a pistol grip also need fcg conversion putting the pistol grip below the action.

I would like the choate style stock but really feel it may not be legal does anyone have experince useing any of the 3 and has anyone spoke to or heard any atf NY state ruleing on any of them? THanks

If you look at the above pictures by nyclu3, you will see he and Nailbomb (others too) use a stock similar to #3 that you listed.

The ATF doesnt rule on state issues, since they are a Federal agency. You need too look at NY state law for a (blurry) description.

But it looks very, very good. Having done it myself, I think you're overstating the difficulty, though. It really isn't that hard to do with basic hand tools and good sharp chisels.
