FoxHound 3
Mine constantly becomes loose, even when not shooting I see pictures of custom 1919s with different handguard caps and also on CenterFires page where they advertise the upcoming fb handguard Where do I get a different cap that doesn't suck and actually tightens properly without use of loctite? Syndicate 812
don't use loctite on it push down on the stock handgaurd and then screw it down, it will come loose, it's just a shit design, the threads suck, but you need to tighten it better, mine only comes loose at the range after a good number of rounds. FoxHound 3
I tighten it as much as I could but it still comes loose just from hauling it around I see different types of caps on 1919s online.... I wonder where I can nab one. Maybe theres a better one that fits the threads
FoxHound 3
Here is an example
Syndicate 812
ya it's something that comes with the forearm
FoxHound 3
ya it's something that comes with the forearm That's the thing, I've seen mates running a 1919 setup with the stock plastic handguard and a different cap screw. Eh, it's possible they made one themselves
Syndicate 812
i've gone to a fastener supplier and tried to get something that would work, no dice yet
FoxHound 3
i've gone to a fastener supplier and tried to get something that would work, no dice yet Damn those Turkish threads... They have their hearts in the right place (evidence: the ever tacticool UTAS-15) but man do they slack off on some common sense areas. I can't complain though... the quality control is significantly more... predictable and constant than our Russian comrades
spicoli 12
I wonder if Firebird Precision will sell the nuts individually. The stock one sucks and I hate the built on sling holder. If he doesnt, it would be a definite moneymaker at the right price.
KIRCH76 12
firebird gives you a new guide rod with the hand guard. So to use the nut im sure you have to replace the guide rod as well. Which might not be a bad thing since the oem is not very straight in most cases.
compshootfl 40
I use a small rubber o-ring under it...no problems now !
Montana3gunner 13
This is a definate design flaw. I hope there is a better solution soon. See my review post for my ghetto solution. It looks like crap but it worked the whole competition season, not one problem. Maybe a detent with a ball and spring?
Montana3gunner 13
Fantastic! I will be calling Nancy ASAP! Can it be made out of heavier material?
KIRCH76 12
what kind of price point jim??
jim032374 4
I use an #09 rubber O-ring and teflon tape at the threads. So far so good.... I'm thinking to maybe drill and tap the nut cap and put a hex set screw on the side to lock the nut in place.
SFSMN 0
Thats what I did to mine in order to keep it from coming loose. I put a set screw flush so the sling ring rotates freely around it. Edited December 3, 2012 by SFSMN
toothandnail 275
That's pretty slick , we havent had much trouble , I have used an o-ring on occasion.
ispayboy 3
How about a lock washer?
SFSMN 0
I just purchased the FIREBIRD rail which comes with a replacement guide rod and different nutcap that (from what I have read) does not have this problem and I think looks better than the oneI have now. The lock washers I found at the hardware store were huge and would scratch the handguard too much. I am actually gonna keep both handguards, I like them both. The new one is for the 2 3/4" and the Tooth and Nail is for the 3". Edited December 7, 2012 by SFSMN
compshootfl 40
Guy's keep it simple...the o-ring fix works fine and is proven.
SFSMN 0
I'd rather have a permanent fix, not a so-so fix.
congewe 14
Found this on youtube. Looks like it would work if you want to go through the trouble. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDH9w-OrDsQ

Looks like it would work if you want to go through the trouble. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cDH9w-OrDsQ i like everything about this video the little simple hand guard nut fix, the chromed barrel and bolt... good find, man
pickpocket 3
like the fix and think its the right way to do it. not much on the bling bling but the polish is A+. someone just need to make a chrome molly guide rod with better threads and nut system. hell it will even add some weight. maybe make it a tube that can hold tungsten to had diff amount of weight up front. just saying Edited December 13, 2012 by pickpocket
