HB of CJ 1,263
My firearms collection downsizing continues. Dotting upon the grandkids which is good. If you could only own ONE Saiga firearm, which would it be and why? Right now I am torn between "Betty Bucker" my Saiga 12 and "Maxine Maxblast", my 16" Saiga 7.62x51. Any and all opinions, ideas and why? Thanks.
HighPlainsDrifter 466
Don't do it! If you absolutely have to downsize then keep the one you shoot most. Personally, I'd keep the S-12...
gunfun 3,931
What he said. If you must give/sell them away, give them to family members who would appreciate them.
Heartbreaker 1,085
I only have a S12 but it would still be my top choice. There are many, many rifles out there but mag fed shotties are an uncommon breed.
Dad2142Dad 6,559
I wouldn't give up either one, let them have something else first. Keep the Saigas till you die, and will them to only the most deserving

Understand the position HB, looking at several firearms wondering where they should go. I first made sure what the wife could and would use was off the table then looked hard at what could be used by which kid (yeah they aint kids any more). Since I bought them in order importance, heh there was a plan, I start at the end and work backwards. The last to leave would be one of the x39s just love that little rifle. Good luck Edited October 28, 2015 by Rhodes1968
HB of CJ 1,263
Sorry for the confusion but then again I confuse easily. Leaving the family control. Selling. Money goes to front load the grandkids college trust. Edited by HB. I just realized this thread could be misunderstood as a tacit offer of sale. Not my intention. Sorry. Moderator; Feel free to kill the entire thread. Poor wording on my part. Opps. Sorry. Edited October 28, 2015 by HB of CJ
THE NEW GUY 113
UGH, I have 2 children age 17 and 9 the 1000.00 dollars and I am just using a round figure will not pay their tuition , so I would keep mine , unless you really want to sell one . I would keep the Saiga 12 as there are probably fewer shotguns than 308's [and everyone that has seen / shot mine likes it ] . I understand that you want to sell , and you must do what you feel is right . I will help my children as long as I can until they can stand on their own 2 feet , as long as they try to stand . Choose what you need to do , but do you have any other guns that you don't use to sell in place of them . I apologize I like my Saigas and my wife says I have a problem so feel free to ignore my advice . I WISH you the best in making you'r decision
Dad2142Dad 6,559
Good on you to try and provide for the grandkids. I would not give them college. To many friends had to work beyond retirement age to foot the bill, only to have the kid not even use the degree. They need to earn their way in order to respect what they get and have. I will provide for my grandkids, but they'll have to wait until 30 something to get it...... Still stands what I said in my previous post
Long Shot 1,287
HB, If you're done with em, wrap em up in cosmoline and cheese cloth, stash em away until the kids are of age. The rate of return would probably exceed any account you could set up. Who knows, may even save their lives in the crazy world we're leaving them with.

Instead I went straight into the work pool and learned practical skills on the job and got paid for it. I now have skills, a steady job, money in the bank, a car and a small arsenal. And not a dime of debt!
mancat 2,368
$500-1000k is a drop in the bucket for college funds these days, I would not bother selling them to fund it, but that's just me. Even a Pell grant is a guaranteed $5k towards tuition, and are impossible NOT to get if you apply for one. I'm not going to trash talk a college education, but with tuition for an average four-year uni rising above $50k in total student loans, your firearms are relatively worthless. They're worth more in your safe.
Hawk451 2,230
If I were only going to keep one, it'd probably be the S-12. Most fun to shoot & can use it to bag anything from dove to bear.

Rhodes1968 1,638
College has become the worst deal on the planet... well after socialism... well they are kind of the same thing after all. Its been drummed into our heads for what 70 years the path to success lay through the land of academia ... three guess where that started. Middle English Lit profs gotta eat ya know. Well good luck

G O B 3,516
Keep the S-12! (keep the others too, sell them when you pass and use the money to buy the Grandkids an annuity!)

Still stands what I said in my previous post That is about half on track with what I think IMO set up the money for education or funding purchase of a business. Kid gets some matching funds based on whatever ratio you choose. ... For every Dollar you put into your career growth fund, I'll match with 30 cents until you are 26. It's a race. Go win.
