So I typed this in google and I got this:

http://business.time.com/2012/12/18/americas-gun-economy-by-the-numbers/

http://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/2015/07/dean-weingarten/how-many-guns-are-there-in-america/

According to these articles there is only 1 weapon per person in this country(?) What??? Where do people get their facts? The first link even states that "5,459,240 Number of new firearms manufactured in the U.S. in 2011, 95% of which are sold domestically, according to the ATF"

So if in 1 year they build 5.5 million and we have been building and importing these for the last 60 years, I ask again where do people get their facts?

what.gifamazing.gifshocked.gif

Doesn't Ted Nugent have over 10K weapons himself?????

I doubt you could come to a conclusive number on anything before the 1968 GCA, when receivers became serialized, and the government began to have some idea of how many firearms were being "born" each year. Before that, nobody knows. Since firearms are a durable item, there are many millions manufactured before 1968 still in service today.

At a bare minimum it may be one firearm per person. Likely double that, if not more.

OK, maybe this other site was wrong, the question was on a specific weapon, and a person (old time poster) answered 250 million are here, even the old timers that usually know their dog pile did not argue with these figures. Hmmm not as many as I thought.

This is just a SWAG, but I would say that 60% of Americans are gun owners, would anyone agree? This means that 210 million people owns @ least 1 weapon, so the other 40% own more then 1.

OK maybe, this sounds solid

Thanks

...not nearly enough, nor nearly enough ammo. I'd say 100K rounds per firearm would be good.

Cmon boss....I cant carry that much

223 weighs 28 lbs per 1000 thats 2800 lbs just for that caliber

45 auto is 46lbs per 1000 4600lbs

so just under 4 tons just for two primary guns

how much does 100k of 12ga weigh??

I do have cause to think that a lot of people are thinking the same way. No ammo panics lately though as good a cause existed as caused the others.

Fairly sure we are all in a better place in this regard than we were in 2008.

We have done our due diligence already and adding more to the pile is a waste.

Yeah have more than you think you need but not much more. Just replace what you shoot seems to be what most are doing now.

As far as how many guns are out there it is unknown and that is EXACTLY what we wanted.

A wise person would weigh their options.

Bug-in or bug-out based on the circumstances.

There are many scenarios where I live.

The first is having a nuke drop on one of the many Naval bases in the Puget Sound.

Like him, or not, Putin seems to understand that Obama is done.

As of about a year ago the NICS has done at least 300 million checks, and you know there is 1+ with each check, and figure there are an equal number of guns existing before that.

Good point. We'd have to deduct used guns sold through gun dealers / online sales of used guns going through FFL though. So that would not necessarily = 300m new guns since NICS.

Well the good news is nobody knows and that's just the way it should be.

My guess is 400 million +/- 200 million.

Factors include,

80% builds,

Surveys based on a phone call from a .gov rep asking people about guns in their home.( yeah, that's gonna get straight answers)

Pre NICs ownership.

Multiple buys on one NICs.

Confiscations and destruction.

Theft and disposal after the crime.

Smuggled into the country.

Nearly 50 million new manufacture and import since 2008.

Far to many variables for any sense of accuracy. Just as a God given right should be.

I'm bugging IN! THIS is where I make my stand. I own this place, it is where I want my bones to be. If the fray comes here, there is no other place left to go!

Me as well Bro, no place like home!!!
