  1. the saiga importation [ and all russian fireamrs ]falls under a treaty between the US and Ussr ( now russia ) for the securement of loans. as imported, they are a "sporting rifle", and hence, never violated the AWB or 922r. This is why I do not believe the recent barrel-ban action will affect Saiga/WASR-10 etc. Because they are already fully legal as an assembled rifle.
  2. the "hottest" gun I've seen was a USGI M-14, after multiple magazines shot very fast. You could SEE a faint glow of hte barrel, and the heat rising from it was tremendous..
  3. i doubt a Saiga, or any AK based weapon will ever have the extreme long range/accuracy that the Garands are capable of.
  4. You are correct. That is not a strawman purchase. However, many shops do not know the finer points of law.. and tend to be a wee bit "overcautious".
  5. Not correct. If you own the firearm, and you are shipping it to either an FFL, or to the manufacture for repair, you can ship firearms thru UPS and Fed Ex. You do, have to go to their actual hub, and not a 3rd party "boxs r us" store.
  6. the only "real" tool you need.. is a good drillbit to drill the two rivets and weld point. OR, a dremel with a grind wheel. Everything else is pretty straight forward.
  7. You got jipped! there should be THREE selectoins there.. take it back ;-)
  8. is it a hotmail address? I dunno about this one, but some forumns just won't send out the email without it getting blocked or something
  9. which model is the one, center.. 3rd one down? It has a totally different magazine. actually, the 4th one has a different one as well...
  10. It depends if your kit has flash hider/brake and a bayonet lug. You need to have no more than 10 "evil" foreign parts to be 922r compliant. A full built AK has 16 parts maximum. Assuming you have all 16, the reciever and FCG is 4 US parts. So, you need to replace 2 more parts: you could go with US made floorplates/followers; or a US gas piston and remove the flash hider/brake [ or replace with US ], etc
  11. according to the forumn I found that.. "The gun is a Thompson Center chambered in 600 Nitro Express"
  12. in a SHTF scenario.. I want a rifle that is dead reliable. "Finicky" etc has no place.
  13. You DO have to be careful about importation of gunparts inexcess of $100 ( other than recievers/silencers etc ). What many people do is do a split shipment. In the case of a Saiga 8rounder going for over $100, they ship the body in one package, and the follower in another package.
  14. ak-47man has had that same page up for the last ~two years. when I called inquiring about a 308 last march or so.. they had none.
  15. keep in mind, if you ONLY use that.. you run afoul of 922r compliance.
  16. there are two side springs in the Saiga. The right side is for the bolt-hold. the left one is the "shepards hook" to hold in the axle pins. If you wish to be able to easily disassembly/reassembly, this works great http://www.blackjackbuffers.com/index.php?...products_id=238
  17. sometimes, there ARE legit reasons for advocating gun control. http://media3.big-boys.com/content/toomuchgun.wmv
  18. Why do you think Navy SEALS like to carry the HK Mk23s? 230gr .45acp going at ~850fps is one of the more effective in-water firearms.
  19. If I need a smal/compact easy to use rifle.. I just bring my Saiga 7.62 With folking stock, Tacpoint and front foregrip.. it's alot of power in a compact carbine.
  20. Well, at least the GOP had the balls to pass S397 with a minimum of "riders" or "admendments". While the enforcement of this Clinton era rule is deplorable, S397 is far more important.
  21. L to R: .22 short, .25acp, .50AE, .500 mag w/700 grain bullet, 700 grain bullet by itself, .45acp, 9mm. With max loads, velocities can exceed 1200 fps with the 700 grainer in an 8 3/8" barreled X-frame. John Ross has published loads with a 725 grain cast bullet that he's chrono'd at 1205 fps. That's a bullet weighing more than three times what a standard .44 mag bullet weighs (240 grains) at essentially the same velocity.
  22. awe.. come on.. i dare ya.. i "double" dare ya!! ;-)
