  1. If you decide to drill (I think your ports are big enough though), be careful not to get the metal between the holes to thin or it will crack and you could end up with one big hole and a helluva bang the next time you pull the trigger. Seen cracks on a lot of home-drill jobs
  2. The grip almost looks like a clone of the Galil grip which is much more comfortable than the 'shovel handle' AK grip
  3. AA Universal tends to run bad in most semi-autos IME. Some Saigas will eat it, but I wouldn't modify an S-12 to get it to work on AA's because it will probably beat itself up with full power ammo.
  4. I believe what you're talking about is a Krink-type cover. They are hinged at the front and flip up rather than pull out. Krinks (AKS-47U) have a sight mounted on the dust cover to give the short rifle a longer sight radius for better accuracy. The front of the dust cover latches into what would normally be the rear sight base on an AK. Something like this?
  5. That is some beautiful wood. Its nice to see an S-12 in something besides black
  6. Yeah, red Loctite is considered "permanent" on fasteners over 3/4" diameter, I would avoid using it on a brake unless you want the fight of your life if you decide to take it off later.
  7. Goes to show folks that a car is 'concealment', not cover Its amazing how NOT bulletproof a car is
  8. I hate to sound ghetto, but have you tried a little Teflon tape? Brakes usually work loose easier if there is clearance between the threads, teflon tape will fill that clearance better than Loctite will. That sounds really dumb, but if I had to come up with a MacGuyver-type solution to the problem that would be it.
  9. With the shorter barrel your 'dwell time' (the time that there is pressure at the gas port) goes down substantially. You probably should get a factory-type puck to minimize the amount of initial volume that has to be pressurized. A lot of people with short Saigas run our KA-SG01A tappet with excellent results, but I can't guarantee that you don't have other issues as well. If you'd like, I can send you a sample KA-SG01A to try in it and see if it fixes your problem. The gasport size sounds about right, so I don't think you're having a problem there, I just think your dwell time is too shor
  10. Winchester AA's have been the only ammo that I've seen a majority of Saigas hate. Hell, even a lot of other semi-autos won't eat that crap. We use Federal bulk shells and they run reliably in Saigas and most other semis.
  11. If you'd like, send the gas block and tappet in and we'll get your block honed to the right ID at no charge. I'd like to see what the internal dimensions are on your block also, we may add a slightly undersized tappet to the lineup if enough of these out-of-spec blocks are floating around
  12. You'd get more accurate results using the same gun but starting with it completely clean each time. With the wide fluctuation in tolerances and QC, you'd be hard-pressed to find two S-12's that were close enough to give an accurate test.
  13. You have a point but the .50GI has outweighed those options in sense that i have already made my choise to give up +4 .45acp rounds to have the kickass size /Weight and energy of the .50GI..I kinda think of it as carrying my G29 10 mm with a 10round mag...I also think 10 rounds isnt too bad compared to some Slim line glocks and sigs that only carry 6rounds. I carry a G21 everyday, but if I was going for a 9+1 gun I'd want something slimmer. The 1911 that Guncrafters makes in 50GI is a great idea, but on the G21 it seems like the gun would be unnecessarily thick for the capacity. Somet
  14. IMO the G21 is a bad candidate for the 50GI since you go from 13+1 rounds of 45ACP to 9+1 rounds of 50GI. Having a gun with the size and grip width of a double-stack mag but with single stack capacity just seems like a step in the wrong direction.
  15. Not exactly, but thanks for the EE flashback
  16. I've been a diehard GM fan for years, not because I was picking sides, just because they are well-built and reliable. However, with Obama the Fucktard running GM now I don't want a shitty vehicle that dispenses welfare checks everytime you push the brakes. Of the choices given I would have to opt for the Mustang, I've been missing my '92 GT ragtop with the X motor and all the bells and whistles.
  17. OI!! This sounds like a duel! Only one way to settle this... TORTURE TEST!!! I guess that I could buy one of each and put them to the test... see what allows me to cycle the weaker loads, and see how many rounds I can fire before fouling of the gas system becomes an issue. Hell, i can even measure the amount of residue in the gas tube after 500 rounds on each tappet. This will give me a good reason to dust off my clay launcher... If you want to torture test one I'll send you a KA-SG01A at no charge.
  18. There is a little bit of room in there, but obviously with that much force behind it, any additional space is going to greatly increase the speed of the tappet before it contacts the op-rod. Basically, it is giving the op-rod a very hard and very quick shove which is enough to have the bolt cycle all the way to the rear. The speed of the tappet isn't very fast, but its acceleration is substantial. Look at it as a car that has a max speed of 30mph but can go 0-30 in 1/4 second, not necessarily "fast", but quicker than anything else on the road It can accelerate the bolt carrier quickly eno
  19. The tappet isn't going to open the breech until the pressure has dropped. The gas system will pressurize and start to move the carrier, but the actual gas impulse on the tappet is generally around .002 seconds. Basically, the shot is fired, the wad and payload leave the barrel, then the action cycles. By allowing a slightly larger amount of gas to be drawn off, it widens the impulse curve and higher across the timeline. This doesn't increase the initial amount of pressure, just the volume. Acceleration of the tappet is still dictated by the force that the gas pressure exherts against the
  20. Yup, our 'local' newscasters seem to getting more fucktarded by the day. I'm just bummed that 100 more AZ folks weren't out there carrying theirs as well. How many more outbursts and protests do we need to have before the gov't gets the clue that people are pissed off and aren't going to take any more bullshit? For a black man to carry a rifle to a protest in Phoenix (a city with perhaps the most ignorant/worthless/lazy/incompetent police on earth who would be highly likely to taze/shoot/beatdown/mace his ass) has surely got to be one of the signs of the apocalypse.
  21. The objective of the recess is to increase the initial volume of the cylinder. When the shotwad passes the gas port, it has a fraction of a second to pressurize the cylinder. As the tappet moves rearward, the volume of the cylinder increases and the pressure decreases. By increasing the initial volume slightly, you start off with a larger volume of gas at the same or nearly the same initial pressure, as the tappet moves rearward and the volume increases, the pressure doesn't decrease as much or as rapidly which creates a stronger cycling impulse. Pressure is inversely related to volume, so
  22. +1 for the heavier bullets. We found that our 110FP demo gun (300 WinMag) shoots far better with 168-180 gr bullets than it does with 150's
  23. I would check to make sure the barrel isn't contacting the stock, it sounds like you have a variable that is affecting your accuracy. I haven't seen too many Savages that shoot less the 1.5 MOA out of the box.
  24. Anyone that has shot a Daewoo knows what you're talking about If the Daewoo was the only thing I knew about Korea I would assume that Koreans have thumbs about 6" long
  25. If you need parts or want to change out that obnoxious 180 degree selector for a 90 degree unit (like the AR) which is also ambidexterous, check with AZEX Arms or on their website daewoorifleparts.com. We designed and built a selector for them and they still have some in stock last time I checked. Having to sweep that selector around a half-turn is a pain in the ass.
