  1. I remember one episode of Cosmos where Carl Sagan is talking about what reasons there could be for extra terrestrials not having contacted Earth. One of the reasons was that we could be the first to advance from life to intelligence to high technology, and I couldn't help but be a little miffed that, should our species survive what he termed elsewhere our "technological adolescence", all those other freeloading aliens would be getting the benefit of our work, provided we didn't destroy them. Why couldn't we be the Universe's hangers-on and get a shortcut to the keys to traveling space and ti
  2. Sounds like Mrs. Relleno taught that sow an important lesson: concealed carry renders potentially vulnerable victims formidable foes. She also scared off a wild pig.
  3. Very nice If not in design maybe alittle bit of an arch to fit in shoulder or be able to mount pad. QD socket I'd buy this if price is reasonable I totally forgot to incorporate it, but you're quite right. I was going to use an Ace-style recoil pad as the basis for the buttplate end. I don't know if a regular hex nut would work to hold it in place or a reinforcement plate on the interior would be more called for. Structural things like that would be better experimented with using a more robust material. Corrugated cardboard, maybe.
  4. Nah, the more devious and likely plan would be to say, "Look how well total registration has worked for keeping machine guns out of the hands of criminals, unlike those nasty, theater- and representative-shooting ASSAULT WEAPONS that you can buy without any background check thanks to the GUN SHOW LOOPHOLE. Let's amend the GCA to reclassify semi-auto guns with detachable magazines as machine guns."
  5. Chances are good that a hobbyist can get good enough results out of 41XX steels using just a torch, some oil, and an oven. I'd heat to non-magnetic, hold it there for a minute or two, quench in oil, scrub the part in very hot water, dry and place it in a preheated oven at 350 degrees F for an hour. If you have a couple cast iron skillets, they can be used as heat wells if they're preheated with the oven and the part is sandwiched between them. After the part has cooled, clean off any scale and use the color guide Echomaker posted to hit the softness/toughness you desire. Weirdly, 41XX seri
  6. It might be that he wasn't butthurt and just didn't realize that he looked like a ponce until someone mentioned it. You probably did him a favor!
  7. With how easy it is to build and swap parts on ARs, they're practically Lego rifles as it is!
  8. I did appreciate that he drew and holstered the pistol in his chest rig deliberately. If you're going to Tex Grebner yourself, you don't want it to be in the thorax.
  9. I've been thinking about this type of stock, and I thought to myself, "Why not make it out of stamped steel?" The original stock is stamped, after all. So, I screwed around with my graphics program and drafted up a flat design that I transferred onto some posterboard. A bit of rubber cement and Scotch tape later rendered the object in the attached images. I didn't account for the holes to attach to the block, so I haven't been able to "fit" it onto any of my Ace-equipped guns, but examining the lines puts it close to standard-length stocks in terms of LOP and comb height. Furthermore,
  10. I'd like to have a space like that where I could make a fool out of myself. I wouldn't record it though, for goodness sake.
  11. As RED333 said, do a search. Or you could look five threads below yours.
  12. Well done! Forums are great place to find hard-to-find information like this.
  13. Multiple colors and reticules on a red dot are on the list of things that make me go "meh", but if it's a quality sight with a good range of brightnesses, I wouldn't say to no to having a few extra colors!
  14. Please let us know how it works! Most front sight posts I've seen use some sort of friction lock, but if the Meprolight post you speak of is without something to hold the threads, I imagine removable Locktite should work just fine.
  15. You might be able to trim the old threads down and put 14x1mmL threads on it. That might be something that requires a gunsmith or some dkhiza-style ingenuity though. I could be wrong, but his threads appear to be 14x1mmL.
  16. Uh, is this a trick question? I think it is. The number of people necessary to screw is two, but how would they fit in a light bulb?
  17. I remember the infrared shot of what looked like Felix spinning during the early portion of the fall and thinking that, if it was me, all my blood would be rushing to my head while...other fluids pooled in my boots.
  18. Here's me realizing that, at 67K feet, he's only just over halfway to the top. Crikey!
  19. Interesting stuff. Are those costumes for celebrating Halloween or Skanktoberfest?
  20. I think I've identified it, but humans have evolved the ability to recognize faces, not cats.
