  1. I also notice that the basic SG12-01 has went up in price again, $539.
  2. It is made by Ridgid, it is called a Portable Work Station. Folds up for stowage in under a minute. 37 lbs. I paid 139.00.
  3. Saw this stand alone vise in Home Depot and figured it would be handy for all kinds of jobs, including conversions. I just used it to hold my x39 while I installed a Mojo Micro Click rear sight and a KNS front post. I was right. This setup allows more access to the work than a bench mounted vise and it is rubber padded, the rubber inserts may be removed for heavier jobs. This is by no means a heavy machine vise, but for what I do at home, it works great. Held my rifle rock solid while I was working on it.. Next I will use it to hold my Saigas while I cut the tangs and install Ace adapter
  4. Check out pg 13- "The fact that a firearm or feature was initially designed for military or tactical applications, including offensive or defensive combat, may indicate that it is not a sporting firearm." Saiga receivers are based on the AK-47 action. IMHO, "sporting purposes" acrobatic semantics aside, the stage is being set- At least for an edict on making the Saiga harder to convert.
  5. Get a bigger safe than you think you need. I would suggest a Liberty Lincoln 50, rated for 1200 @ 90 mins.
  6. I'm not. No offense to anyone, but gun owners typically aren't the most rational group out there. Doesn't take much to cause a panic buy. And what you see here on the internet is nothing. Ever talk gun politics with a typical Bubba at the gun range? Doesn't take a whole lot for them to start running around like chicken little because someone sent them a chain e-mail (via AOL) quoting a bill that's been dead in committee for a decade. True. But many, too many, of these "Bubbas" are only concerned about legislation that affects or could affect them directly. And not just the Elmers,
  7. I think your right for the most part but if nothing comes out about the Saiga (I'm getting more optimistic now) I'm sure there will be a few people looking to dump their's quickly for a loss. It'll be hard for an individual to sell a Saiga 12 when KVAR and others are still selling them for under $500. My guess is that we'll see at least a few for right around $400. If so, I'll pick another one up while the gettings good, especially since production stopped for now. I did the same after the AR15 buying craze. You might want to check that price again. KVAR Saw that earlier. They'l

  9. Well then I guess the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of S-12s, S-20s, and S-410s would need to be registered. Yes, that's right the HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of them would have to be rounded up from their undocumented owners and registered one-by-one until ALL of them had papers. If they started today, it probably wouldn't end up happening fully until 2040, so I think we've got plenty of time... Oh, and save your little negative rep points for someone who actually gives a shit... Not the .410s, they are under .5" bore diameter.
  10. I'm set up to reload, with 7.62x39 dies, some Winchester brass, ect. But I mostly shoot steel.
  11. If you take a Shotgun that is OEM with a pistol grip, but no buttstock, and intend to shorten the barrel, that is classified an AOW, Any Other Weapon, which I believe is a $5 stamp fee, NFA rules apply.
  12. My S-12 is an older model, USA Kalashnikov imported 3-holer with no BHO. I had some light strike issues with low brass after I converted it and shortened the barrel from 22" to 18.25". The cause was it was not locking into battery every time after firing, the bolt cycle being slightly shorter with the shorter barrel, less back pressure. I shaped and polished the bolt and hammer a little further, but the main issue was the extractor. It had a small burr-like ridge that prevented the extractor from sliding into the notch completely, when the bolt tried to returned to battery. I polished the
  13. One disappointment that I did have with my DPMS LR-308 rifle was the trigger. It sucked. I bought and installed a Timney unit to fix that.
  14. Yes, 24". The scope is a NF NXS 5.5-22x56mm. I bought it back in '01. The bipod is a Harris. The scope has the NP-R2 reticle, as pictured. The marks are 2moa divisions.
  15. I use brake cleaner to blast out the crud from inside the receiver. Never had much issue with the paint, but when I need to do a touch up, I have a can of textured finish black spray paint out in the garage. Past that, I really don't give the finish of my Saigas any thought.
  16. Check your PM. Don't want to run afoul of the rules.
  17. You would have better luck converting the .308 Saiga to 7mm-08. Everything is wrong for a 7mm-08 conversion from a x39, the size of the bolt face, length of the action, and on and on.
  18. The procedure for setting up a scope is so easy...and so often misunderstood. What you are wanting to do is get your Point of Aim, aka POA, to your Point of Impact, aka POI. Many shooters try to do the reverse, bad mistake. The quickest way to get your rifle/scope combination sighted in on paper is...DO NOT SHOOT AT PAPER. At least, not while you are getting sighted in. Shoot at an object on the berm, @ 50-75 yrds, a big dirt clod, a claybird, or such. Check where you hit on the bank, POI, and compare to where you were aiming at, POA. The berm should show the disruption of the imp
  19. SHTF...a fantasy? Here in Florida we are just one Cat 4 or 5 away from it. Exposed peninsula, no way to evacuate to safety, unless you do so 4 or 5 days early. Anyone who doesn't believe that the "rules" can be suspended for a few days, maybe a week, or even longer, they are living in a fantasy. Civilization is a mighty thin veneer. Be it a natural or a man made disaster, even a short duration of anarchy would be hard to survive with a baseball bat. Unless you get surrounded by a baseball team, and they want to play a game or 2.
  20. "Eventually I want to switch over to a micro dot of some type but for now this works great. " I have an EOTECH myself. Great sight, but bulky for some applications. I have a Burris Fast Fire II on my S-12. I use it for slug shooting, and it has held up well.
  21. I have the ATI on my S-12 and my x39. On my S-12, I use the included rubber butt pad, my x39, no. They are sturdy and well built, and I paid $65 each, not "over $100." It pays to shop. There are better stocks out there, to be sure. But the ATI are far from a "retard stock option." Why my choice of the ATI? Because NO'bama was newly elected, and I wanted to get my Saigas into a folding stock configuration ASAP. At the time ACE stocks and hardware were scarce as Hen's teeth. I've never regretted it, but I do plan to upgrade, now that ACE products are back in stock. That said, I am
  22. I did not reinstall my BHO, but I did install a pin retaining plate in my rifle, and from what I can see it allows for very little side to side play in the hammer. So far, I haven't seen a need for a spacer. I am going to notch my safety lever for a BHO, while I wait for a LRBHO. Some don't like the look, but I do. Operates easier, quicker than the stock BHO, too.
  23. Maybe not, I just checked and my March '09 has not only has the no-step chamber and dimples, but also the threaded barrel and handguard notches. Could be March '09 is a desired run of rifles and maybe there are others.
