  1. Want to know if these are any better than the CAI Romanian PSLs The reason I want to get is because it comes in the black poly furniture which has been so hard to get for the PSL. What are your thoughts and comments on its quality and functionality?
  2. I love how the rarest version are the ones imported through Kalifornia.
  3. Anyone seen or know what the actual mag is like? http://www.sgmtactical.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=6&products_id=41
  4. Here's the Youtube vid from Nutnfancy about the Midwest rail issue. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X5J-gGte_g
  5. So I finally get a hold of a Midwest Industries quad for my Draco and now I hear that it will ruin its accuracy. Haven't even mounted it yet. I thought this would be a good upgrade for the Tapco quad I currently have on it. Was able to hit the plate at 100yds with the Tapco. So if I mount the Midwest rail, I won't?
  6. For most people looking at this site, especially newcomers, that phrase is key. To tell people that a Saiga is great value at less than $500 for rifle or shotgun, then tell him that he needs to spend the same or even double that for an optic to put on it is just not gonna work. Its like trying to sell someone with a Hyundai on high dollar Pirelli tires. There are many quality optics that are reasonably priced without going with Leupold, Trijicon, Aimpoint or Eotech. For example: Redfield (US made, a division of Leupold, available from $150 - $300) Simmons (I've got one o
  7. I'm a fan of any decent optic that is within my budget. I really like my latest purchase, a Simmons 44mag. Its a 4-12x44 with side focusing AO. Its waterproof, fogproof and recoilproof. The glass is really sharp and clear all the way to full magnification. Price is about $100, a little more or a little less depending on where you buy it from online. Best of all, from now onto Dec. 31st 2010, there's a rebate offer from Simmons for 25% of your purchase price. Just go to the Simmons website and click on "promotions".
  8. I asked this because I never use my irons when I go to the range. Most everyone are always asking which optic I should get or this is the optic I use....... This only leads me to believe that hardly anyone use their irons in any essential way. In other words, REALLY DEPEND ON IT! My Saiga .308 - If I am going to be shooting out from 100yds to even 300yds I'm definitely using an optic at about maybe 8x - 10x. Sorry I don't have eagle eyes. My Saiga .223 - I'm always using my scope at 4x when shooting at 100yds. I don't see how anyone can get any decent groups using irons especia
  9. Its a matter of finding the right ring such that your objective will clear the rear sight leaf. First, you need to know how high the UTG rail is compared to the rear sight leaf. Since I also have one, I can say that the top of the rail surface is about level with the rear sight leaf. So starting with your objective which is 40mm, half of that is 20mm. The scope I am guessing a 1in tube, so half of that in metric is about 12.5mm. 20mm - 12.5mm = 7.5mm so lets say 8mm to be safe. Add another 3mm - 4mm for the thickness of the scope covers and you have a rail to ring dimension of 12mm
  10. The Pro-mags work great with the tab cut off if you use a Dinzag bullet guide. If you want your factory mags to work just cut off the tab on that as well and use it with the Dinzag bullet guide. I would rather mod all the mags the same way knowing that it will always work because of the trunnion mounted bullet guide than guess whether which mag's body bullet guide will work or fail.
  11. My FCG has a washer on it as sent to me from Dinzag. Even with that the the spring leg still jumped.
  12. OP did you even fitted an AR mag into the adapter after you got the MSA adapter? Chances are you have fitment issues from not having enough clearance in the front trunion. You need to machine more material off the front trunion such that the AR mag can be inserted fully into the mag well. The AR mag must sit higher into the magwell than the factory Saiga mags because it needs to be there for it to feed properly since the AR mags don't have a tab built into the front of the mag body like the Saiga mags do to help ramp the rounds into the chamber. For me, I machined as little as possib
  13. They're (MAA) cutting a 21" barrel saige to 16". The pin holes for the front sight are no longer there. If you want to install the front sight on the newly cut barrel threaded or not would require cutting new pin holes into the barrel which will not be easy to do. My main concern about the cut barrel is that there is no mention of them recrowning it after the cut. This will have a significant affect on your accuracy if the recrowning was not done after the cut. If it is recrowned then select to have it threaded and get a flash hider for it. You can purchase a front sight made by Ace t
  14. The Saiga specific mags have a tab on the front that works as a bullet guide. The Dinzag bullet guide sticks out a bit from the trunion into the mag well. The good part about that is that it really works in ramping the rounds into the chamber. The bad part is that it interferes with the front tab on the Saiga mags. If you want to use the bullet guide you have to trim off the tabs or use Galil or Orlites that don't have the tabs. If you want to use the factory mag or Saiga mags with the tab, you need to remove the bullet guide. Rather than deal with that consider getting an AR
  15. Thanks guys, I'm gonna have to check on that spring leg. It did give me some trouble when I was putting the conversion together. According to the description on CSS the JT hammer spring would eliminate that problem. I use that spring already when I converted the S12 which is probably why I didn't have the problem there as opposed to the stock spring in my S308. I'll post pics of the gun from my next visit to the range along with a pic of the group at 100yds.
  16. For most of us on this forum, probably not simply because there are many other solutions available for much less. However, there are few who strive to be completely authentic. Yet keep in mind that this also may affect 922r so there may be a legal drawback to using this as opposed to something that is domestically available.
  17. Finally got my converted S308 out to the range for a test. I used brass cased non-magnetic Belgium FN .308 which I got at a smoking deal locally. Got 1-1/2 - 2in groups. I'm quite satisfied with that. The scope I used was also a deal and a half. A Simmons 44mag 4-12X44 with side focus parallax. http://www.simmonsoptics.com/riflescopes/44_mag.cfm You can find it at the various online outlets for about $100. Even better is that Simmons is offering a 25% rebate good until 12-31-10 http://www.simmonsoptics.com/global/promotions.cfm Enough about that, everything went well
  18. Fair enough. That is to be expected. Whats the worse MOA I could get as a result of ammo?
  19. I really like what you've done in further developing your product. This "flat top" thing really opens up a lot of different sighting options as well as the application of various iron setups. No more looking at the "Russian" systems and just drooling at it. I too am also concerned about the weight issue but I guess that all depends on the material used and how the weight is distrubuted on the gun. I look forward to seeing the final product.
  20. Given the price of .308 ammo nowadays, that would be an awfully expensive drum mag to shoot.
  21. Dude, I think I know you from the LS2 GTO forums. Nice to see you here. The .308 has a larger barrel diameter than the .223 and the 7.62x39. You can't swap the factory handguard from the .223 or 7.62x39 to the .308 but you can the other way around. Regarding non-factory handguards, the SGM tri-rail handguard fits all rifles. Just don't get the one for the shotgun because it is different.
  22. I've had the rifle for some time and so far all I've put in it were new manufactured box ammo like American Eagle, Winchester white box, and Fiocchi. I recently picked up some cheap bulk Yugo ammo locally. It was all loose in a box and many of it looks dirty like its been in an ammo can for 20years. I figured this would be okay to plink with. My line of thought was that since the Saiga is an AK variant, its durability and reliability would mean that it can shoot just about any .308 ammo you can put into it. Am I wrong on this? Please assure me or correct me.
  23. So far the best side mounted rail that centers the best is the 5th Gen one made by UTG Leapers. There have been other threads in this forum about this. I also have one on my S223 and it works great with my 1-4x scope. These rails are bout $35 through most outlets on the Internet.
  24. Can't use any of that stuff because its not range safe. Its even harder to find non-magnetic (no steel).308 at a good price. Anyone who has a source please post. Thanks.
