  1. Well, since Cameron Hadley himself decided to chime in... (why don't you tell us what you really think of Leapers? ), I took another look at the Chaos website. The products look excellent... now I just have to convince myself to spend over 1/2 of the cost of the shotgun for a quad-rail. Leaper's comes in at ~$70... hmmm. Actually I have a friend who already ordered a Leaper's.. so I'll probably test that one first before making a decision. I'd really prefer to support American small business rather than Taiwanese sweat-shops.. but we're in the economy we're in, (thanks so much for the r
  2. WASR's are basically Romanian-made AK's. Their main attraction used to be their low price, (~$350, no conversion necessary), but they've more than doubled since King Barry came to power. They can be great, (though roughly finished), rifles. Or they can be loaded up with such lovely features as canted front sights and gas blocks, and horrible magazine wobble. They've been pretty inconsistent in quality since they were introduced, (I blame this on Century, not the Romanian manufacturer Cugir), however, the most recently produced models, (the GP WASR 10/63's), are of noticably better quali
  3. KA's tappet along with a Gunfixr's gas plug seem to be two of the absolute best and cheapest investments you can make in a stock S-12 to vastly improve performance.
  4. +10!! Imho, fuck "Cheaper than Dirt"! In my experience their customer service is bad to terrible, and the way they're intentionally gouging people on Russian 7.62x39 is absolutely despicable. There really is no excuse for it. They should change their name to "Fuck You, Pay Us", as that seems to sum up their attitude and business practices very well.
  5. Do my eyes deceive me or did you install an unfinished trigger guard on your S-12? Perhaps the saigatech model? I can't exactly cast any stones here, (my S-12 is still stock, on the way to CGW for warranty work), but you really should remove it and at least spray paint it with some high-heat flat black, imo. Just looks odd the way it is now, (and it's vulnerable to corrosion). Otherwise great lookin gun! Also, I recommend a Gunfixr's gas plug to replace the factory plug. It really does enhance performance.
  6. Hmmmm.. is that really a choke or is it a strangle? There is a difference, you know.
  7. Actually reseating the bolt/bolt carrier in the receiver is noticably easier with a 7.62x39 AK than it is with a Saiga 12. I also had the OP's problem when I first unboxed my S-12, field stripped, then reassembled. It took a minute or so for me to realize that the Saiga 12 bolt/bolt carrier is really more picky than the 7.62 is. It must be pushed further down into the receiver, right at the rear of the bolt, before it aligns correctly with the rails and can be slid forward. Obviously, once you do it correctly, it's never again a problem, but it is definitely a little different than the 7.6
  8. That's one mean lookin bitch, converted or not! I have a quick question for you, does a brake like yours significantly reduce recoil? I've heard that they do, (S-12 brakes in general, not just your particular one), and I've heard that they don't.
  9. There seem to only be a few online shops that are making an effort to keep prices low. Midway, Widener's, and Sportsman's Guide still sell 7.62x39 for ~$0.25 per round when they have it in stock. Needless to say, they sell out fast. The shit that "Cheaper than Dirt" is pulling has convinced me to never order anything from them again. My experience really has been nothing but negative with that shop anyway. I actually called them once to check on an order. Got one seriously rude bitch on the other end of the line. Their recent ridiculous price gouging is just the last straw. $0.50 pe
  10. Russian ammo isn't going anywhere... I hope you're right, but I doubt it.
  11. "Steel waffle type"? Trust me, what you prefer is combloc military surplus steel mags. They are available many places on the web, last time I looked, Cope's had a nice selection for sale, $13.99 and up.
  12. Thanks for the heads up, I just ordered 500 rounds of golden bear. This brings my stock up to about 2500 rounds. That's not good enough, soldier!! You will not have that smoke until you have earned it! (fear the pirate!) You must acquire 4k+ rounds total. That's what I'm shooting for anyway. Got about 3,200 currently. Seriously though, I advise it. Thanks to King Barry's authoritarian ambitions, Russian ammo's goin the way of the dodo, (in the US anyway).
  13. Yes it is too bad that the US-made quad rails are so much more expensive.. as I'd definitely buy from a US manufacturer instead if their rails didn't cost ~3x as much.
  14. Yeah, that's close to what I've currently got. 1k Silver Bear FMJ, 1k Wolf MC JHP, ~200 Wolf black box FMJ, and now 1k Brown Bear FMJ on the way. I'll pick up another 2k or so, (of whatever, 1k more JHP and 1k more FMJ would be ideal), if they're available when I've got the disposable income. I don't have any of the reloading supplies though.. and the way things are going, (did y'all see the new DHS report on "right-wing extremists"? ), I really need to start stocking up on those as well, cause the news for those of us who value our 2nd Amendment rights is getting worse by the day.
  15. Damn that sucks, man. Jump on that Golden Bear!! It's apparently a bit better ammo, (higher fps), and it's only ~$12 more per 500.
  16. As of now, Sportsman's Guide is sold out of Brown Bear, but they still have some Golden Bear FMJ at a pretty excellent price. On a sidenote, according to their site, the Golden Bear FMJ's specs are: Muzzle velocity: 2,430 F.P.S. Muzzle energy: 1,612 ft.-lbs. While the Brown Bear FMJ's specs are: Muzzle Velocity: 2,396 FPS. Muzzle Energy: 1,568 ft.-lbs., even though they both have the same powder load, (same grain anyway). Odd. edit: I see this has already been covered.. oh well.
  17. ^ I think people on both sides need to chill. There's nothing wrong with a little kidding from people who've done conversions aimed at those who haven't, but keep it lighthearted. Some people either don't want to or can't convert their Saigas and they shouldn't be so heavily mocked for their choice. Converted or not Saigas are great rifles.. and we come to this site to share experiences and information, not attack one another.
  18. I've considered this strongly several times, its very tempting. If you do move across the pond, try to live in a sane state like those in the West, (but don't overshoot and end up in Kalifornia!). Avoid the northeast, Illinois, and the west coast. Rabid socialists who disdain individual liberties live there.
  19. Looks more like the ultralong boomstick to me.
  20. usmc_mwroseberry, if you're worried that you'll screw up the bullet guide installation, why not just pay a gunsmith or someone else who's done it before to do it for you? /shrug Just makes more sense to me to do that than to screw up military mags. Also, once you've got a bullet guide in place, you won't be restricted to your mags that you've "modded".. you can use any standard AK mag you wish.
  21. So dave, living under those onerous restrictions, why not just get a bolt-action rifle designed to be used that way? It just seems kind of pointless to own an "AK", (in quotes cause any AK that doesn't have a fuctioning gas system isn't really an AK imo), when it's more of a semi-functional replica than a true specimen of Kalashnikov's brilliant design. Hell it's bad enough being restricted to semi-auto rather than the selective fire AK's were designed for. I've got the solution!!! Move to the States, dave! We still have our 2nd Amendment to protect our right to keep and bear arms over
  22. Your rifle fallen over probably not going to bend the barrel or the front sight. AK front sight might seem canted, but you have to shoot it to see if the front sight is really canted or not. Both of my Saigas 7.62 and .223 front sight seem canted, but it shoots straight. If you have to adjust the front sight either all the way to the left or right and the point of impact still not center, you have a canted front sight. Technically the sight can be somewhat canted and "fixed" with windage adjustment. If "you have to adjust the front sight either all the way to the left or right and
  23. Thing is, I'm sure that rust, (and there's almost certainly more inside the firearm and not visible in the pic), doesn't prevent this "soldier's" AK from going *bang*, (or *bang* *bang* *bang* *bang* *bang* etc on full auto), every time his skinny finger pulls the trigger. Gotta admire the AK's unequaled reliability, even when employed by misguided and dangerous people. Hell if I could I'd trade this kid a shiny new Saiga for the rifle he's got there.. factory selective fire.. /drool. At any rate, I still think my caption for this pic is the best: "Trick or treat, muthafucka!"
