  1. For color matching on the reciever, I've been using the new Krylon color "Ultra-Flat" Black. It's one of their 'camoflage' paints. Matches very well. I haven't tried to bake it, but might be a good idea, as it seems to chip off along a flat edge. Anyone try to bake that paint yet? For lettering, I tried to use a white china pencil, but the results have been less than great. it looks ok, but the wax seems to wipe out very easily with gun oil, or just come out...I'll try the above paint trick to make the lettering permanent. thanks!
  2. I'm about to cut my shroud on my March 09 7.62x39,I'm pretty sure I have threads, it came with every other good thing, (PG hole, dimples, etc.) I have a Dremel, what is the best dremel bit to use for this? one of the fiber wheels, or? Folks here always say use the Dremel, but forget to tell us which cutting wheel or bit will work best... thanks.
  3. I would stick to the scopes made for the 7.62x 39 bullet, like the POSP shown above. It would not have to be adjusted for a differing weight or trajectory of bullet,as it's already made for that gun and caliber. I'm looking at them soon for my Saiga. just seems easier....
  4. Boy I'm sure glad to find this site.. thanks for further explanation.. now I see it.. I see threads at the barrel-end (YES!) so might add muzzle brake someday soon. For anyone interested, I just bought the rifle and tried it out at range today.. Used Golden Bear HP ammo, didn't miss a beat w/ 40 rounds fired. I'm stoked. The only mods I've done so far is to install a recoil buffer and the birchwood hunting style woodstock (not doing conversion) from "SaigaStock". It's gonna be a sleeper, here in CA I like that it won't look at all like an AK. Sent off to Carolina Shooters for their bigge
  5. amazing...I can get em here in California, and you cant have em in MD? I thought it was bad here...
  6. Just so you know, The federal cop who looked at my 10/30 was surprised and glad to see it was riveted on both sides to keep the follower to go below 10 rounds, as well as had a piece of pvc pipe cut inside and epoxied to the bottom to keep from ever getting more than 10 rounds in, then, the whole thing was epoxied together, (the bottom plate), so, as cali law wants, the mag would have to be destroyed to turn it back into a higher cap...there are companies that will sell you blocks of plastic already cut to fit inside yer mags to turn em into full on 10/30's...
  7. yeah, just got em, havent tried em yet. maybe tonite, more probably tommorow night.. yeah, as soon as you put on a Pistol Grip or any other 'evil feature' as cali calls them, you can no longer have a detachable mag. And fixed mags are limited to 10, so, with a PG on yer gun, you have to run 10/30's (or stock 10's) to be legal, WITH some sort of maglock. PRK's are hardcore, thick, heavy, no doubt about legality, but cost $45. Solar tactical has a good one, too.... a bit cheaper, but lighter, and thinner...If ya live in cali, just pick one, yer gonna need it...
  8. sounds good, Guns and tattoos i have, but could always use more tats....gonnna get a half sleeve done hopefully soon

  9. hey, 922r is FEDERAL law, and trumps STATE law, even with california mods, you DO have to be 922 compliant to keep yer gun....I already had a federal LEO look my gun over out on a National Forest, and schooled me on that. Lucky I have an american handguard, (MI), Tapco stock, and Tapco gas cylinder, and on the day I was shooting, had a converted Tapco 10/30 in the gun...(had to take it apart and show him all the made is USA markings)..922 non-compliance in cali certainly WILL get your gun taken away...and if someone tells you that it doesnt need a maglock, they are lying. Any gun with ""evil f
  10. Before you buy a bullet guide, look at the pix on the Dinzag site to figure out if you need a flat or round one, that way you will order the right one...
  11. Just the 10/30 mags...the extra spring pressure on the sharp edges of the lips on streel mags without anti tilt followers is a bitch. I'm not exactly sure what kind of mags they made my 10/30's from, I think they are Chinese flatbacks..have sharp lips and edges...kinda crude looking sitting next to a euro mag...I just need to put better followers in em...I'll probably buy some Circle 10's, too, just to see how I like em, as well as some of those teflon coated steel mags. can never have too many mags, I think, especially here in Cali....(I actually gave up waiting for a palm 30, as the backorde
  12. Myself, I went with the MI quad rail for saigas. Lots of rails to hang stuff on, solid metal so vents/cools nicely, and leaves 'just enough' of the gas block and barrel visible for a AK look. It's just right for me. Pix are up in the pic section of the 7.62 gallery, mine is on pages 36 and 37, I believe...
  13. Sure, here ya go...I really like it. I didnt like the way the front is open until I checked other quad rail guns, like AR's, and a alot of them are open in the front for cooling...and barrel cooling is a good thing.. Has a modern AK appearance,(more military than the stock Saiga one), useful rails, and locks down tight, and stays true...Check around for prices, though, if ya buy one, you can get better prices than from the factory..
  14. Sure, give me a day to get them taken and up on here. It just a bit longer than the regular AK model, I love it, it stays true and locked down tight.
  15. To my knowledge, nobody has received a "production model" of these mags. Gabe Saurez knows how to sell soap to fish. I'm sure if you paid him enough, (or gave him enough swag), he'd say nice things about these all-plastic AR15 lowers, too. Nobody needs get excited over these lowers - the seller/manufacturer has been found out to be 'less than reputable'. I read all your links about those lowers, it seemed folks were mad about not recieveing them yet, not because they didnt work. They complained about the Hesse/Blackthorne models which were different companies. Many pistols h
  16. Well, I don't know where folks got that info. the US Palms supposedely had an internal steel ' cage' throughout the entire clip, including the feed lips, kind of like how they reinforce concrete with rebar. Says so on many sites, and in an interview with Gabe Suarez,he didnt actually say they didnt, said he THOUGHT they PROBABLY didnt... and he knows his stuff about AK's. I have one on order right now...just to check it out. I'll let you know how it works if they ever come in. the metal com-blocs work fine, but are a bitch to load manually if you dont have a feeded of sometype. My metal ones
  17. Here's mine so far, only a: Tapco T6 stock and PG, Midwest Saiga quad rail, Dinzag bullet guide, a Tapco forward grip, 10/30 com-blog mag, PRK Mag lock (for Cali)...so far so good...more soon, (and a real conversion).. having a problem getting pix to post right tonite...hope one of these works...
  18. I never said it was new....just more authentic...
  19. Here's a russian tactical light for you purists who want to keep your Saiga as close to Russian as possible. It's a Znich....It's at Onesourcetactical online...
  20. yeah, I was going to, but I forgot to bring my Dremel to work with me, (where i worked on the gun), which would have had the cone sander wheel to make a divot, I also didnt have a punch with me, so I tried to use a screw, which worked a lil bit, but the hole started a lil bit too far in, and I couldnt tell until I finished drilling. At that point, i should have just tapped it and modded the bullet guide to fit it, but I messed up and drilled another hole, too close to the first one. It all fixed now, but I learned a good lesson...
  21. Quick question, why dont you just bolt on a PRK AK mag lock? With a small amount of filing, fits right over your stock mag release, only takes 5 minutes or so, and fully Cali legal...It is $45 shippping and taxes included. They are a sponsor of this forum, look up PRK Arms, and find AK mag lock for pics...here's one on mine...
  22. To keep from having to PM everyone who asks..(I don't mind, but I'll be gone for a while and I want to make sure folks get the info), I'll just post the vendor name without a link for the convenience of our members here. I hope the Mods dont mind, and if this is something I'm not supposed to do, (please let me know, and I'll not do it again). the place with them on sale is: Centerfiresystems you can probably figure out a link or look them up from that. They are in Kentucky.
  23. Midwest Industries has a saiga specific quad rail, but its not much longer than a front grip. Its the MI-AK-S model, check it out on the Midwest Industries site or milsurpstuff. Its $ 109 fpor the standard AK one, $119 for the Saiga specific quad rail/ the only difference is the Saiga one is about 1 1/2" inces longer and has a slightly longer rail...Both look good...I'll try and post a pic of the Saiga one on my X39..
