A hardware store, unless you can scavenge one from a household item. The detent spring in my gas block is from a clicky pen, and it actually works better than the original.

They're talking about it tumbling as it passes through flesh, not in the air. ETA: Beefcake beat me to the punch... I guess great minds think alike.

Best Paint / Spray and color match for Saiga 12?
JAldrich2008 replied to Aeternus's topic in Saiga-12
When I did my conversion, I cleaned the receiver with Dawn dish soap and water, then rinsed it and let it dry. For paint I used Duplicolor 1634 engine enamel. The paint line is almost invisible and it has held up very well. -
I had this problem before I rounded my extractor slot. It was snagging the shells and slowing the bolt enough that sometimes my hammer would strike the carrier before everything was closed up.
-
I had this same problem. The shells were hanging up just slightly as they chambered and caused the carrier to lag slightly just before closing. If I pulled the trigger in that time, the hammer would hit the carrier and not fire the round. I rounded my extractor slot a little and polished my and bolt, and I haven't had any problems since.

Drill a fourth port at 5/64. That has made a world of difference in both guns I've done. They'll run anything now.

Should I mod my gas block internally? Picture inside.

Hey now... it works better than trying to hammer the thing off! -

If you do decide to remove your gas block, check this out. I've removed my gas block twice and my cousin's twice with this method. (both times were to add a 4th port that I should have just drilled to begin with) http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/58956-easy-gas-block-removalreinstallation/ -
Notice how the optics mounts are still around the same price. At least we have something to be thankful for!!

My Model 60 needs a scope any Ideas?
JAldrich2008 replied to swells08's topic in Other Weapons - RIFLES (non-AK based)
I have one. I just put the cheep centerpoint 3to9 illuminate red or green from wally world on it and it works great also put the pistol grip drag stock on it afer I broke the original stoock. Has a whole difrent feel now. I love it Centerpoints are solid scopes. I have a 4-16 on my .17 HMR and I use it to pick sparrows off my woodpile about 120 yards out. It's a little tough to see through at full magnification, but for $70 at WalMart I would definitely recommend it. -
I've got a 2009 580 series Mini 14 Ranch rifle and I would like to put a small, low power scope on it. Could anyone with a scoped Mini measure the distance from the front of the front ring to the back of the back ring for me? I found a scope I like that has 4" of usable tube space, and based on the distance between the receiver mounts I can see that it's going to be close. I plan on ordering my rings from the same store to save on shipping, which is why I don't have any to measure for myself. Thanks in advance for the help. Joe

I took the gas plug out so I could touch up some nicks from removing my gas block, then I took a test shot and forgot to put it back in. I think the bolt carrier pushed the puck forward enough that it was past the gas ports, so when I fired it went flying. It isn't on the ground anywhere near where I painted the gun, so I assume it went bye-bye. SunnyBean's got one for me though, so I'll be all set in a week or so.

I accidentally launched mine into the yard and I can't find it. Does anyone have a spare they would be willing to part with? I don't want to go aftermarket... they're either too expensive or have bad reviews. I would prefer to use Paypal, but I can send money the old fashioned way too. Thanks for looking, Joe

My SGM holds 11 rounds no problem, I just can't load it on a closed bolt.
-
Same here. The only time I loaded one up was to blast a coon, but the bastard hid behind my lawnmower then disappeared into the night.

Do you try to prevent dry firing with your Saiga-12?
JAldrich2008 replied to tofu1998's topic in Saiga-12
You can pull the charging handle halfway back, pull the trigger, and let the hammer ride the bolt down. I usually just dry fire it though... -
I have two and they work flawlessly.
-
You can. Just yank off the old stock and put this one on.

You can see what he's talking about in my avatar picture. I used a drill press for mine. Just be careful you don't go all the way through!

WTS Stocks
JAldrich2008 replied to rcc1111's topic in Unsorted Ads prior to November 2012 (WTS / WTT)
I'd be interested in buying the stock if mav wants the handguard... It has the storage compartment built in, right Edit: Reworded my statement. -
I'd throw some PVC pipe over the end and call it good. Just don't get it hot enough that the plastic melts to the real barrel...
-
Yes you do, as well as an extension tab on the back.
