  1. Some military service related health issues/injuries set me back for a few years, gave upon VA, daughter became an MD, between her and an old time doc, got me turned around. Still issues, yet can at least deal with them now.
  2. Thought what the heck, when 1st born sent photos of Liberated Saigas from warehouse at beginning of Gulf war. Thought is that the crappy $200+ shotgun I seen at local gun store?? Then ban lifted, days you talked to guys like Tony, Tom, Shannon, etc on the phone. Self imported 8rders from New Zealand, $100 was cheap,. Always patiently waiting for new products
  3. Depending on education/specialty, usually 1 to 1.5 years for every year of education. When already active, then course/education is greatly pushed, long as it fits into service requirement schedule. Your son's situation is close to my nephews, except he already is ROTC/government scholarship. After my service, I was a bit lost, went to collage and found myself helping the ROTC program with field training. Had officer send me to the board for a scholarship, a government agency offered me a job at same time, I left school for them, choices. Not always the best.
  4. Ok, each branch has it's own little quirks, a good recruiter would get him the info, or the overseeing Officer of the program. Different yet give you idea what can be done. My nephew, is graduating in Dec. Went to college on "Baseball Scholarship", now entering dental school via Army in January. Will go to "Officers" 6 week boot camp, and other required trainings during his summer months when not enrolled. 4 year school equals 6 years military. Plus Officer in charge of program, has started process to get him reimbursed for expenses not covered by scholarship while he earned his Bach. of Science. That is a rough estimated cost, calculated by military. He didn't ask for that, it's what can be done. Could go on, have had other family members and friends go to Service Academies, most went right into specialty outside education, yet did summer service/training, if non summer or year long education required. Medical is a priority. 72 year old uncle went the Air Force Academy route, Air Force chose med school. he became surgeon, they also chose internships, some private, some military. He chose to stay in, yet after retirement, volunteered and was accepted for duty where needed the last decade. In Germany, last 3 years doing initial reconstruction surg. God Speed for your son.
  5. Custom built 1911 CCO. Due to hand damage all controls fitted for my use. Wood grips
  6. Been called on twice, been excused twice. By prosecutor and by defense. No body likes me. lol
  7. Have had to fit every Korean 20rder I've gotten, doesn't matter the AK. Dependability has been hit or miss, watch for internal rust. Do really miss the Romanian 20rders, got a dozen back in the day. Prefer to have 20rder in the Ak, especially the pistol versions. Got a few Magpul's 20rders for around $10 during holiday season. Been reliable.
  8. Small rural Sheriffs Dept. I've been on reserve/training supervisor status for awhile. Weekends, holidays, vacations, and special events. Issued Class III soft. Get great discounts for class IV plates and we received new surplus carriers, so we used our personal gear allowance and our own cash to upgrade a few items. Cumberbun plate, been qualified and approved with my Kebs AK for a few years, so switched it over from AR platform. Spent a couple days training, for those who lug this armor daily, I salute you. Hydration back sure beats the canteen. It's a young man's game, yet good to have when high risk situations. (meth labs) are our biggest problem. Glad I've lost a bunch of weight and got back in shape. This would have done me in a couple years ago. LOL Dept. patches removed per regulation for private post. I'll reduce the ammo load down to half of what's pictured. I just wanted to see if I could do it. I did, now, nothing to prove.
  9. Picked up 2 Sig P938's. SAS and Equinox versions. Deal was to good to pass up. A micro was not on my list. Really enjoyed shooting these mini's. Put all ammo through without a flaw. Defense loads to FMJ. 115,124 and 147 grain. Put the Hogue grip and belt clip on the Equinox. Didn't like the clip, so took it off.
  10. Picked up a couple Arex Rex Zeros in FDE. Full size and compact. Full size compares to Sig P226, compact to Sig P229. Quality of fit, finish and function is superb. 300+ rds in each, not a hiccup. Accuracy and quick fallow up is great. About a 1/3 less in price compared to my Sigs, plus mags are around 25 bucks compared to $40. Have the cock and lock feature with manual safety like 1911, other wise all functions same as Sig DA/SA with decocker
  11. Really like it. It's the rivet style, could use nut and bolt. Had a couple slip over with allen screw that AIM sold, yet didn't hold up well (plastic) and slipped on other Aks I got, so switched over to the solid rivet. Trigger finger quick release
  12. USMACHINEGUN.com, offer few styles. Unable to edit post. Parts to do build that listed Midwest Industries were supplied buy USMACHINEGUN. Muzzle brake is done in house. On Yugo M92/85 upgrades, halfway down page 5. Have many options and styles.
  13. Well, do to work around hazardous materials, been vaping for 10 years.
  14. Yes, building ourselves, we get what we want or at our skill or tool level. Just seen many reviews of reputable persons that have had major/dangerous parts/metal failures. Maybe it was a push for pre election production numbers. A guy gets one that shoots 100's and 100's of rounds, next guy's literally blows apart from metal stress.
  15. My son has used for 3 seasons deer and boar hunting. Really likes it. Was out today and will be again tomorrow with it. He's a brush/river rough terrain hunter. Attached to a Remington 700 .308. Standing, squatting, or kneeling. Said he likes the stability of locking the rifle and giving a more stable shot. Might not be proper terms, yet stabilizes.
  16. Back in the Fn Fal kit building craze. Their were some junk receivers, so know some skimp metals. We built many, and reworked many more that had used inferior built receivers or other components. And yes their were knock off builders putting out dangerous weapons for a quick buck to the unknowing. Wont even go into the junk builders of the H&K clones, that (looked) as good as the quality builders for a couple hundred bucks less. Yet, with many of these weapons Price was the give away, not so in the AK market.
  17. Ok, been seeing some major issues reported with most US made AK's. Anyone have a clue what's going on? Got a couple Romy's for $200 in the 90's that have fired thousands of rounds. And other builders that reworked Saiga and Vepr over the last 10 years. No real issues. Never a metal related failure. A canted sight or bad finish use to be the worry with imports. Yes their were some bad builders of parts guns, that were quality of build, not so much the parts themselves. So, are they trying to redesign, can't get the heat or forging process, since most issues are broken, bent and blown metal. A lot of these AK's aren't cheap or considered throwaways. Just seam more hit or miss with quality, not consistent. Those who have done gut work got any ideas. Yes I have polished and replaced parts, even built a kit from polish parts and a receiver from a quality supplier, so, if these companies are spending big bucks to tool up and produce, what seems the issue.
  18. Well, sometimes a person can get carried away. Or, Just want it the way I want it. Texas Weapons Systems hinged rail and peep sight, Inforce 500 light, Midwest Industries, quad rail, muzzle break, folding mech, sling attachment and parts for arm brace, Sig brace, Mepro/Mako reflex sight and foregrip, Hogue grip. Riveted on mag release extension. Notched safety to hold bolt open. Romy 20rd mags and pmags are the most handy. FDE baked metal coating, camo is petroleum cleaner removable to terrain or choice, so yes it wears off, can be easily touched up or changed. Pics are bit lighter than actual color. Have enjoyed it so far, over 700 rds fired, no issues. I'll do the light to match. Actually blends well now in our winter/fall terrain.
  19. got a burris fastfire 3 for the scorpion carbine. cowitness easily. really like mepro reflex, yet seemed to large for this carbine and 1/2 the price, so giving this a chance. ordered a rex zero 1. light reflection sucked on photo of sight pic.
  20. Scorpion 9mm carbine. Did I ever think I wanted one, No. Over priced, probably. Just fun to shoot. Brought a lot of smiles Thanksgiving weekend to family members who shot it. Nephew putting it through it's paces. Fired a 1,000rd case PMC, no issues.
  21. Really didn't see any gouging before, maybe 5 or 10% at some places, some had low stocks. Do think some prices will fall a bit. Except for Newtown craze. Most rounds, except 22 have been about same as when Bush, +,- $20 per 1,000. I normally buy from wholesalers. Actually many dealers locally and nationally have been having sales, some up to 30% or better on handguns. Sig had a heck of a deal last month, son and I got 4 models.
  22. Sig Sauer P220 Equinox Carry with crimson trace, Sig Sauer 1911 C3 with crimson trace, Fns 9c, S&W 9ve, S&W 686 7 shot, over 6,000rds of ammo, mags, Some custom leather holsters, pouches, belts. Just paying cash for some good deals. Weapons were used, very low round count.
