  1. FWIW, Stihl didn't even have a factory in China until 2006 so the older saws probably have very few, if any, China parts. Older model Stihl's are a great option too if you're looking for used. Indy did ask about NEW though. I guess he didn't! He said "another"...
  2. On the plus side, there are plenty of US AK mag builders. The drought won't be long if you can't get whatever you want anymore because it "must" come from Russia for your gun.
  3. I hope that was a joke... A he tells the story he did everything right from the situation he was in.
  4. I have no experience with the pro-grade Echo stuff, but the authorized dealer that sold both, and had them both in stock, firmly talked me out of the Echo Pro trimmer I was looking at into a Stihl brush cutter (FS 55) that was less expensive. I can't say enough good about it. As long as I can afford it and the equipment doesn't change, I'll buy Stihl everything. No matter the conversation, a man can never have too many tools! You left pole saws out of your list so you're STILL not well enough outfitted... You'll need at least a couple of those!
  5. Between your mower and saw problems you're having an expensive summer, Indy! Good luck whatever you end up with!
  6. I agree overall with the idea of trying out what fits best. My original comment was intended to share my experience with the few women I've introduced to firearms and the problems I've encountered. It was dumb of me to not mention letting them try a few things out. I suppose I just figured it was the natural thing to do. The Glock problems shocked the crap out of me.. It's not difficult at all to rack IMO, but they can't do it. The LC9 is MUCH harder to rack, IMO, and I don't think its all that difficult either. None of them made it past 1/2" of travel on the LC9 slide. I have GIANT hands
  7. I agree with your point the perception that women are somehow "too dumb" to operate a semi. That's just BS. HOWEVER, you did essentially just name 2 of my firearms that the 3 women I mentioned can't rack. G21 and LC9. I'll try your suggestion about technique the next time an opportunity comes up.
  8. This is starting to get a little Ford/Chevy, but I detest my Dad's Echo. It's a consumer grade saw (which may be the problem) and is about 3 years old... Starts alright, but no power and is heavy for a saw of its size.
  9. I'm a little curious about that statement too. Although I am aware of many women who can do so just fine, my sister, my mother, and my EX all could not rack the slide on any of my semi-auto pistols. As a fairly big guy that doesn't have an issue with most thing I never gave it much thought, but is there some technique that should be taught to women? I just grab it and yank it. Done.
  10. I hate thieves more than just about anything on this planet. I'm glad you managed to catch them but its too bad its damaged. You'll probably NEVER get your money back from the repairs. Thankfully you didn't have to pull on them. I once caught a guy trying to break into my truck, but long before the days of camera phones, and it was a similar deal. Scariest thing ever hoping that they didn't force my hand over $99 radio.
  11. I'm in the fix it crowd too if you like your current saw. If that's out I'm firmly in the Stihl camp too but a good Stihl is going to be at least double the cost of something like what you have now. As far as supporting data for going with Stihl, other than their rock solid reputation, their equipment tends to make more bhp with smaller engines than their competitors. That means their stuff is usually a fair bit lighter, more fuel efficient, and more powerful. I've used some higher end Husqvarna stuff too that was pretty nice, but its nearly the price of Stihl so...?
  12. $50,000 VEPR x54R http://www.armslist.com/posts/3307252/new-hampshire-rifles-for-sale--vepr-7-62x54r I can't even believe I just typed "$50,000 VEPR"... This stuff just HAS to be documented...
  13. FWIW, I wouldn't hesitate to buy my CAI Yugo again in a heartbeat for a "normal" price. If you want one, go for it.The fit and finish on mine isn't quite as good as my Saiga (and I say that knowing that you don't get into AKs for fit and finish, but I think the Saiga is pretty dang good for an AK), but is WAAAY better than any WASR type gun I've ever seen and its on par or better than most of the AKs I've handled (which isn't loads and loads...). Rivets are good, gas block is dead straight, folder is tight and locks up like a vise, G2 feels good in it, bolt operates like it should, paint is "g
  14. Yeeesh... a 6 month production delay on some mags by a well established company? Maybe they were having their tooling built in Russia?
  15. And that is where the "panic" in market prices that some of us are predicting is gonna come from.... To be fair to the ignorant hordes, ANY import can be stopped tomorrow from anywhere for no reason. There is some sound logic in getting on the ball pretty quick if you want an AK, or whatever, from where ever. Barack didn't go after K Concern to cripple Russia, he did it to ham string us and if he gets away with it once he'll do it again.
  16. I was going off of wiki... Still, 19 miles max at even 3 is 19 seconds of flight time. If they go faster (than wiki), it was head on like Darth said it, and it was closer than 19 miles, it could have only been 8 or 9 seconds total flight time. Pretty amazing stuff when you look at it that way.
  17. The trident would have been plenty for me...
  18. The combined speed of the aircraft and the missile closing in at each in under 19 miles (the range of the weapon used... closing speed could have been up to Mach 3) would have only been a blip for a few seconds. There may be data on the aircraft of an approaching object but I doubt much of it would be of that much use. I agree with your point that this was probably not an "accident".
  19. One thing I would say, is that if one gets a CCW BOTH should have a CCW. I would hate to be in a "questionable" legal situation later if your mother was licensed, your step not, and he had to use her gun in a sudden change of heart to save their lives. You never know where that could lead. I've been trying to tell my Dad this very same thing but he's not interested. Since Mom still hasn't bought a gun it's really a moot point at this time.
  20. ^That is why I'm so glad to see guys like GunFun (not to say he's the only one) casting their own ammo, taking good data, trying new things, and sharing it with the rest of us. I'm not currently looking to be so extreme about my ammo, but I'm very grateful there are guys out there documenting this stuff for the rest of us that may HAVE to take it up some day. Then we'll all be crying about not buying equipment for THAT earlier on...
  21. The writing has been on the wall for a long time. Those that are panic buying now can only blame themselves (unless they just turned 18 this year). So it was my fault for not being turned out to Saigas and AKs until right before everything exploded? Seems harsh, Darth... With respect Maxi, it is hard to imagine anyone not seeing this coming. The only way that makes sense is if someone has made the decision to not pay attention. In that case, who is to blame? I dunno... I personally found out about the S-12 on youtube, came on the forum for a few weeks and browsed (and learned a littl

  23. I made this same prediction, that I stole from a youtube comment, about a week ago and I believe you are correct. I've pretty much decided to leave foreign firearms alone from now on. I still like them and still want more, but its just not going to be worth the cost or hassle to get them. Never mind that spare parts in some cases were nearly unobtainable BEFORE the new "ban". I'll keep what I have and be happy to own them and hope for the best as far as keeping them running. I'm not TOO scared about parts availability. It's going to make the classic AK vs. AR debate a no brainer for m
  24. They will simply re-write tid-bits of the "law", which they gave themselves the power to do "legally" when drafting it, without congressional approval to skirt around the rule of the courts. If nothing else it will start the litigation cycle all over again and it will be another 5 years until the next ruling, and then the next change, and so on and so fourth.
