  1. Maybe try less corn media and more powder???
  2. I played with how much to crimp and the amount doesn't seem to affect my cycling of the action, unless i crimp not enough and the bullet gets pushed in, I have had that a few times. You cannot over crimp a case, not possible, at least on my lee die, there will be a mechanical bind that creates a minimum size of case mounth, if you adjust further, the crimp will crimp and stop at that minimum size. So dont worry about that, unless you are using some other crimp i am not aware of. The tightest possible crimp on my lee die does not blow up my rifle, and does not create excessive pressure. I
  3. how does the trigger feel? is it long and spongy? why did you take it out? any ak style trigger can be modified to whatever you want, 1 stage, 2 stage, shorter, longer, if you know how. what is it about the G2 that you like? in my eyes the G2 is like a clean slate where you can modify and adjust it however you like and not mess with the original trigger that way you can put it back if you need to.
  4. i meant the muzzle device is 2 piece from the bulgarian kits i think, the U.S. made muzzles devices are one piece. as far as the FSB/GB combo, My thoughts are that you cannot open up the bore enough to slip it over the barrel all the way to the gas port, you will have to turn the barrel down up to that point and a super thin barrel on the s308 in my eyes will be bad for accuracy. But to use the ak74 FSB you only have to turn down the tip of the barrel and thats ok.
  5. I am not sure, when I had my ak74 fsb on my 7.62x39, I didnt need to open up the muzzle break but i did, the muzzle pressure is higher on the 7.62 and it will be even higher on the s308 so it might rip the muzzle break apart. At least the 2 piece ones, If you get the us made single piece you should be fine, you can always check to see if you need to open it up when you get it. check in the pictures thread, there are a few pics of one already done.
  6. The s308 that I have seen had the barrel turned down so the ak74 fsb can slide on, then it's pinned on as usual. And the threads are already part of the fsb so it doesn't need to be threaded.
  7. Yes, it's been done before, and looks pretty good too, also you can use the ak 74 fsb and have the larger threads.
  8. This is western Washington, out by Mt Rainier, not too far away from a little town called greenwater, in the national forest. Love the green.
  9. Ya, gotta go buy the rattle can to see where the impacts are, otherwise, I love it.
  10. This is the steel plate i was shooting. This is what my scope reticle looks like, The scope is a Burris MTAC 3.5-10X MIL/MIL with G2B reticle Here is where we were shooting, at the bench is my younger brother, for the bench I attached a net to catch the brass so I dont have to go chase it everywhere. To the Right upper corner you can see the 100 yd paper we were shooting, and to the left by the two big piles of logs you see a red rectangle, I added that in to see where we placed the plate, it wasnt visible in the photo.
  11. So I went to the mountains recently and was shooting my super vepr 308 at 100 yds testing some ammo that I loaded up, I bought some Speer 168 gn HPBT target match bullets and loaded them up with 45 gn of Viht N550 powder, That load showed the best accuracy out of of that combination of bullet and powder. It was about 1.8" groups to 2.25" groups at 100. As I was shooting I noticed that I can place my steel plate a good distance and shoot it safely, So I drove out to the farthest visible point and placed my Plate, The plate dimensions are 16.5" wide and about 18" inches high, I drove bac
  12. I think that kind of accuracy is what the rifle is going to do, unless you spend extreme money on fancy gunsmithing to get less than 1 MOA. I am getting 2 MOA on average with mine, some days a little better, some days worse.
  13. that looks great, now i wonder how the stock pushing up on the barrel will affect the accuracy, i think bedding that front portion with begging compound would make it real consistent.
  14. Casting, got ya, for the 308? How is that working out? Good plinking rounds?
  15. I had an older saiga 308 as well, they are really good guns, my gun would shoot 2" to 3" groups with all ammo, I had the 22" inch barrel model and it was an EAA import. For shooting 200 to 300 yards they are excellent. From my understanding, the saiga 308 rifles have a really hard barrel so you can sling thousands of rounds down range. I think my round count was up to 5K or 6K and the barrel looked like it was new. Not joking. I cleaned it every time I shot it and i never had an issue with it. If you compare it to the PSL, i think the saiga 308 wins out, depending on what model and who ma
  16. Thats great! Good 20 rd groups, you are using the top mount scope mount right? I find that on my super, with the side mount, if I apply pressure to the side of the scope the receiver flexes a little. It springs back and not very noticeable but it still bugs me.
  17. The sierra manual has data for the viht N550 with the 168 gn hpbt bullet, since the bullet type, shape and all that is the same, i think i will substitute.
  18. Hi guys, I have been reloading for quite some time now and came across some Speer 168gn hpbt bullets that I wanted to load for my super vepr 308. I found some reloading data in my book for the sierra 168 gn hpbt with viht 550 powder, but for the Speer bullet nothing with that powder, I think it's ok to substitute basically the same bullet but different manufacturers . They weigh the same, profile is the same, same materials used in the construction of bullet, what say you? Would it be ok? Only reason for this situation is its difficult to find the powders listed for the Speer bullet, any powd
  19. Tactically and all things aside, if you have the integrated sights version of the vepr, you will not br able to use that quad rail, from the looks of it, the gas tube is part of the quad rail and the version 2 vepr uses a different gas tube setup.
  20. Why the 27" so badly? I think the 23" is more than enough for the 54r.
  21. you can put any ak type stock and pistol grip on the vepr without modification, so the rpk stock will work.
  22. my press is literally on my bedstand next to our bed, on my side of the bed! my wife wasnt too happy. lol
  23. m.i. is midwest industries? those mounts are really nice, you should have no problems with them, when you compare the m.i. mount to a cheaper mount you should be able to see where the m.i. mount is so much more beefier in all the right places.
  24. is this trigger really worth putting all that time and tedious work? is it really that much smoother, like glass and has just the right amount of travel? what are your thoughts on that? can you explain the minute differences between the two triggers? To me the stock trigger feels like this, it has a smooth take-up that takes about 70 % of the trigger travel, then it hits the disconnector and the second stage begins, slightly heavier than the first stage and then the trigger breaks. the trigger pull is fairly long but smooth, thats after i used the lapping compound on the surfaces and w
