  1. Did I get an oddball or what??? My T-6 conversion and stock set from CSS came with a sling mount that fastens into the front mounting section on the stock that works for either a single or double point sling.
  2. That's $600 for an already converted one, even if you find one for $400 you'll have that much or more in it by the time you get it done, unless you intended on keeping it as it was...
  3. What's wrong with the ones that are here? If you're looking for a nice x39, Classic has a special shooters package right now for the 16" with a carry bag, 4-30 round mags, shooting glasses, earplugs, recoil buffer and black nylon sling for $600
  4. If you go bent bolt, pick up a bolt or bolt body off ebay and toss your original in a drawer in case you want to go back original, that is if you have an all-numbers matching one to start with. If it's a Mutt like the one I built out of spare parts then no problem, lol... I'm a member of a bunch of the Mosin forums, some as a sponsor, others just as a means of cheap advertising for my sight tools, the Mosinitus one I've been with since they started up, mostly a few guys off another general shooting forum that a bunch of us went to after getting banned off the Hi Point Firearms Forum when i
  5. If you do the washer under the spring mod there's no reason to buy the "kit" from ebay, all it consists of is a washer and a slack spring, the slack spring doesn't really do ANYTHING as far as trigger pull, all it does it push the trigger forward. These kits are a ripoff, just take a soda can and cut the sides out, flatten it out and mark off 1/2" squares on it and cut those out, use a paper punch or hole punch for the screw hole in them and put a few under the spring. Keep in mind that what you are actually doing is changing the depth that the sear engages the cocking piece on the bolt, you c
  6. Man I'm screwed then, I wear my BDU pants at least a couple days a week because I'm cheap and they were free and are still like brand new, why wear out my jeans? I also have a partial beard, and I'm sure my A-shirt and do-rag are probably also signs to the liberals that I am not to be trusted with the firearm that I carry on my hip all the time... Had a half hour conversation with a Sheriff's deputy that I know casually, all he ever mentioned was the fact that "see you finally switched from that Sigma to a Ruger" then showed me his Glock 27 BUG and off duty carry...
  7. 100 yards is a long shot here in the woods of southern Missouri, my scope is zeroed at that. I shoot at my buddy's place in the woods and all we have cleared out is 100 yards of the woods to shoot in.
  8. Couple of posts on several boards that say if it aint corrosive it's as close to is as you can get, they experienced rust in the bore and had to "pogo stick" the bolt open. I'd shoot it as corrosive, clean the bore with windex followed by your regular cleaning routine as soon as you can after shooting. And it supposedly stinks rather badly...
  9. I've got some battleship gray deck enamel to finish it with, but the remnants of Isaac hit us yesterday and it's about 110% humidity today so it'll have to wait a bit. It really wasn't difficult to build although I did cheat a bit and left my POS circular saw under the bench and just used my horizontal bandsaw that I usually use for cutting my aluminum stock, with the 10TPI blade in it I got some nice smooth and straight cuts. Here's a link to the PDF of the plans I used. http://www.horstguns.com/pdf/HandMcopyrightedshootingbench.pdf Note that on the plans, the legs have a hori
  10. The Mosin-nagant is an old school bolt action rifle from Russia. Originally designed by a drunk Russian engineer and an even more drunk Belgian gunsmith, who drew up blueprints on napkins in the back of a pub somewhere in Siberia in a vodka-induced stupor. The Mosin-nagant fires the 7.62x54r cartridge, which can kill a polar bear at a thousand yards and keep going right through the tree he was standing in front of. The Mosin-nagant was used by the Russians in both world wars, so it's killed more Germans than collisions on the autobahn and under-cooked sauerkraut combined. Surplus Mosins can be
  11. Well, it's kinda off his front porch, he has a modular set down in there off the roads a ways and I guess the front doors DO face towards the woods there, lol... he cut only the minimum amount of trees to get the house in there, I bet the transport fellers were really cussin him bad.
  12. I shoot at a buddy's place out in the boonies, he lives on ten acres of heavily wooded property and had carved a shooting lane out of the woods. He isn't much of a perfectionist so it leaves a little to be desired. I figured since I shoot down there pretty much at least once a month that I could spring for what I felt was the biggest shortcoming there, and that was the shooting bench. What he had was a rickety, barely standing, chunk of plywood covered in lexan, nailed to four length of cedar that he had cut. His idea of an adjustable rest was carving a "U" shape into a chunk of plastic a
  13. Just tossing a Finn trigger into it will make a world of difference. If you take the trigger spring/bolt stop (Sear to most of us) out and run a fine stone across the surface where the trigger runs, more than likely it will show two high spots, if you stone that smooth even the original trigger will break much more smoothly.
  14. I just wish Dinzag still rented the setup, I can't find anyone local that does it and can't see buying the setup to just do the one that I have, unless I find more people that want it done in the area.
  15. I'd try a Huber trigger first, the Timney requires some relieving to be done on the inside of the stock for it to fit. The Huber has an adjustable setscrew in it with a roller bearing on the bottom. The great advantage to the Timney is you have an actual safety that's easy to use! When I shoot my Mosin's I set sideways, straddling the bench so that the butt sits more on the meaty section of my shoulder, it helps a lot. First time out, I sat straight ahead, shot 20 rounds through it and next morning had a purple and blue shoulder. Since I switched, had no problems at all but I still rarely
  16. At which point she would file a sexual harassment complaint, he would be booted out of classes and she would feel justified in getting a "gun nut" kicked out of the college....yeah, maybe not... when people demonstrate how ignorant they are in regards to firearms, offending them certainly isn't the way to instruct them in the facts regarding such. Maybe a brief explanation about "machine guns" and "semi-auto rifles" and invite her to go shooting sometime. And I hear that fat chicks are... well, never mind that...
  17. Yet nowhere in the story does it say what race the men were.. so look for a man in khaki pants, that'll be him...
  18. Damn, I'm planning on going shooting on Sunday, y'all keep the rain down there till after that... My sis in law lives a little north of Gulfport MS and posted that they were all set except she forgot to get chocolate so she had ot hurry and whip up a chocolate sheet cake with chocolate fudge icing...lol
  19. I take a gallon of white vinegar, mix 1/4 cup of table salt and 1/3 cup of Dawn in it and use a pump sprayer to apply. In direct sunlight it will shrivel stuff up fast, I use it on whatever needs killing around here. Had some vines taking over the bank by the street, no idea what they were but my weedeater wouldn't touch it except at the very ends of the vines. I went out and sprayed it every day about 10AM before it got real hot. I'd leave the salt out if you'd like anything to grow there anytime soon. The Dawn just thickens the vinegar up a little and makes it like a gel on the plants so it
  20. If I were to go "Sporterizing" one, it'd be a wartime one with crappy machining on the outside of the barrel and such, they were in such a hurry to get these out to the front that it's evident that there were no quality checks on the barrel other than that it would fit in the stock. The 1937 barreled receiver that I bought is in SWEET condition, nice and smooth, no machining marks at all. I'm one of the sponsors on a "historical" Mosin Nagant forum, they don't want to see the Bubba jobs but at least will politely inform you to please read the rules instead of just slamming the door in your
  21. Older brother and family live just north of Gulfport, another friend of mine was set to go camping so they're all set up to ride the storm out, they have full propane and gas tanks, generator, food and water so they aren't having to fight the crush of people trying to buy shit up that they should of already had on hand.
  22. You can do a lot to them without "ruining" them, there's really no point in chopping the barrel shorter, it's not going to make it any more accurate, just shorter. The x54 actually needs the longer barrel to "use" the pressure from the standard load, anyone who's ever fired an M44 or M38 carbine can attest to that, the 4' fireballs are impressive and firing any Mosin at an indoor range tends to make EVERYONE stop shooting while they look around to see who brought a damned cannon in... Float the barrel, make SURE the action screws are tight, they rarely are. ATI stocks are cheap and the act
  23. Dang, I got it pretty good here in Missouri I guess... I better stop pissing and moaning about the bi-annual vehicle safety and smog inspections I suppose...
