  1. I used a K-Var AK stock on my S12 conversion. I took off the butt plate and removed the spring that pushes the cleaning kit out. I measured the diameter of the cleaning kit and ordered the same size Mercury buffer from Brownell's (11 oz.). I used an epoxy mix from Walmart and glued it into place where the cleaning kit sits. It works very well. Between the mercury, porting the barrel, and the Tromix Shark break there is little to no recoil. I put over 200 rounds through my S12 during one trip to the range and did not even receive a red mark on my shoulder. The follow up shots are very qui
  2. After several phone conversations with MCASgt, I agreed to buy his Wm drum. He warned me that the drum might be less than reliable but I decided to buy it anyway. I deposited the money in his account and within the week I received the drum. I loaded the drum with a mixture of 12 gauge buckshot that I had on hand. The first 10 rounds functioned flawlessly. The last ten jammed every round. They either failed to eject or wouldf not feed. I noticed that the first 10 were newer federal rounds while the rest were old remington rounds. I loaded ten into a proven AGP magazine and had the s
  3. I woulg get it from you but I'm not having any luck getting paypal to take my information. Trying to use a Visa credit/debit card. Is it the type card, or my computer illiterate country ass?
  4. +1 These guns are idiot proof. If you reassemble it incorrectly it ain't goin back together. Notice the groove in the bolt has to go over that thin metal lip as it moves foreward. If the bolt is put in wrong it will not close enough to put it back together. Good job on the first try. Most first timers argue with their gun for quite a while before getting back in working order.
  5. You beat me to it. I would probably buy a mag to see what it would take to get it to work in my S12. AGP's are great but another option would be good to.
  6. I shoot mine a couple of times a month. I have put a couple of thousand rounds through both my .223 and my 12. I gave my 308 to my dad and my 762 to my uncle. They hunt deer and hogs and love them. My uncle also got my extra 12 for birds. I have over 50 guns of all different types and I can't think of one that sticks out as a favorite. I have several WWI rifles and pistols all of which shoot well. Out of those I think I enjoy shooting either the Colt or the S&W 1917 .45 acp's. I have several modern handguns and it depends on what I want to do the day I go to the range. If I'm shoot
  7. Gunny, what do you think about the gas trap carbine (gas piston) uppers for the AR's? I know several companies are making them now. I was told by a sometimes reliable source that Colt was even coming out with one and calling it the M-5. Anyone else have anything good or bad to say about these. I was looking at getting the H&K 416 upper for my Department A-1.(A-1 that has been converted to a 10 inch Comando) This is full auto and I am wondering if it functions well and reliably in both semi and full auto.
  8. I had problems with the Wilson tactical uppers years ago and RRA uses them on their rifles. This is not the same as the quality Wilson that makes AR's shot gun and 1911's. I have not heard of RRA have the accuracy issues I experienced in the past but I still have a bad taste when it comes to Wilson Tactical. I have owned and built several DPMS AR's and for the money (especially when I could get the lower receivers for $100.00) you cuold not get a better rifle. DPMS is good quality. Colt is too expensive!!! They are proud of their stuff. Olympic Arms builds a good rifle. The lower receive
  9. I have a Saiga .223 that I have already converted. I was looking at the Norinco because I had one years ago in 762X39 and it was really well made. I have seen them at the gun shows for close to 6 bills. They may be nice but not that nice. The conversion (922) on the Norinco would be easy because I would be replacing parts without relocating them. I can't get over how pricey these things have gotten. I've already decided to pass on this one. Thanks for input.
  10. I'm sorry. I'll have to work on that! Without going back and searching, when is the newest possible release time on these drums? I have been away awhile getting personal issues taken care of. I guess I can put some sort of deposit on one? I'm ready lets do this. I got a WM on the way now I want one of yours. I'm sure if I looked through the forum a little I could find answers but I'm just lazy.
  11. I finally got a price from a local shop that has three of these Norinco thumbhole .223 AK's. They want $499.00. They do not have the boxes or original magazines. They are in new unfired condition. When I first talked to them about a week ago they thought they might sell them for $300.00. I don't know if I want to put out the additional $200.
  12. They are fairly reliable and they float when dropped in the water. (good boat gun) i have one of these henry survival rifles, didnt know it floated, but other than the ocaccinal jam, the worst part is trying to chamber the first round very stiff and theres nothing to grip with your finger, so it can hurt to try and chamber the first round by hand, i use the other mag to chamber, though its very accurate for open sights at long range at a target the size of a wagon (about 80-100 yards) The oversized stock keeps it above water. This was one of the selling features of them back
  13. 5 extra rounds = machine gun??? WTF Shows you what happens when non gun people make gun laws!
  14. They are fairly reliable and they float when dropped in the water. (good boat gun)
  15. I have fired three Stag Arms Model 2's and found them to be very good AR's. That said, the .223 Saiga's tend to be more accurate then people think, when fed good ammo (ie, not Russian made Wolf steel case ammo) My 16.3" Saiga, for $295.00 (incl. tax), shoots almost as well as my $820.00 16" barrel mid-length AR I built last year. (Don't tell my wife!!) My AR has a better trigger, but once I am done converting my Saiga, I do not think the difference will be that great. My thinking is that if you gave him your Saiga, he would still suck a** at shooting. It is the singer, not t
  16. This is a Saiga Forum and I have been questioned in the past by people doubting that my department would allow me to carry an AK variant but I did not say that is all I carry. Look at this post http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=17660&hl= I posted a while back showing my Comando M16A1. I am the SWAT armorer so I get to play with all the toys including my MP-5. I was a sniper before I became a team leader but I still get to play with the extra H&K sniper rifle (I Prefer the Remington 700 McMillan bolt action. It's lighter and the accuracy is better.) I also get to pla
  17. He's a mighty cute puppy. Feel stupid asking, but, what is he? Mastiff? 1911 Yes he is a Bull Mastiff. He is about 20 pounds heavier since that last pic. He thickened up and his head is wider and doesn't come to a point on top anymore.
  18. Here are pics of my boy. One is him at eight weeks old and the other is him at 7 months old.
  19. Another day at the range. Yes I do carry my S12 at work.
  20. Rescue dogs can be a nightmare but only if humans make it so. Your best bet is not neccesarily going to a shelter but going through one of the thousands of private rescue groups who voluntarily rescue out of love, not as a career path. Often they have been taken in by a foster family that can tell you the pluses and minuses of a particular dog. Those groups generally speaking try to make a good match based on the particular dog's disposition and the family situation. My group for instance will not adopt certain dogs to families with small children and we're really wary of people expecting
  21. I had the same problem with lack of skill. I broke my tap and tried to drill it out. THAT DON'T WORK! I ended up with a hole larger than I wanted and it was not quite round anymore. I finally beat a rivet into place and it has worked fine over the last two years. I wish I would have known about the tap in the drill press trick.
  22. +1 on the mutts. I have had a few and they make great loyal friends. They are usually so ugly that they are cute. you really need to research and see what will fit your family. I was a K-9 handler foer 7 years and had two German Shepherds. They were both great dogs. They were extremely smart and atheletic. They are very loyal and feirce protectors. The down side was the amount of shedding and they need a lot of excercise. When left alone they will entertain themselves, ussually by destroying something in the house. I now have a Bull Mastif. Great dog. He is 135 pounds but shedding
  23. In Florida when a firearm is seized during a criminal case it may be retained by the law enforcement agency for use by that agency or it has to be sent to the Sheriff's office to be destroyed. The only part that is require to be destroyed is the frame that bears the serial number. I have stripped several guns for parts and sent only the frames for destruction. Some agencies will trade "parts kits" a dealer in exchange for weapons for the department. I'm not saying that that is what is happening here but it is possible that these were all law enforcement seizures that were traded to that de
