An economics professor at Texas Tech said he had never failed a single student before but had, once, failed an entire class. That class had insisted that socialism worked and that no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said ok, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism.

All grades would be averaged and everyone would receive the same grade. After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. But, as the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too; so they studied little. The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the average was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. All failed, to their great surprise, and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great; but when government takes all the reward away; no one will try or want to succeed.

Could not be any simpler....

The thing I find truly astounding is how people can twist themselves into an absolute KNOT trying to defend socialist policies.

As a simple example, look at the crap Saigafun12345 has said in the fight club on the Juggs tee-shirt thread.

Their initial arguments are soundly defeated and in response they change the subject to include other issues like talk radio host Rush Limbaugh (which is ALSO happening in the NY senate seat contest right now I might add)..

When that doesn't work they resort to name-calling and what not.

All the while, they pat themselves on the back for their brilliance and IQ as they refuse to begin to understand the most simple concepts of capitalism and conservatism.

It's amazing to behold.

It's why I call it the Twilight Zone. It's convoluted as all hell.

Yes, it is that simple.

As far as trolls and soapboxes go, if no one rises to the bait, the troll will eventually get bored and move on.

It's like teaching a fish to ride a bicycle. You waste your time and annoy the fish.

Socialism would work perfectly if humans were machines of pure logic, but they're not. Socialism ignores the 'animal' element of our nature.

I think of the whole thing as a warning against extremes. Unfortunately most people I talk to about it view the whole thing as "AMERICA RULZ FUCK COMMIEZ LOL!1"

So me not liking Rush Limbaugh, The Westboro Baptist Church and morons like you suddenly makes me a socialist/communist? LOL

So tell us, what do YOU think we should do?

Read the fuckin' constitution

I'd be willing to bet you've never done that.

You have no concept of either the Constitution or the meaning behind it.

But I won't try to convince you of that since you already know everything.

Sorry, I missed the amendment that says you have to like Rush Limbaugh and the Westboro Baptist Church.

So, is this like practicing to be gay..... but saying you're not really gay?

Juggs,

Does this mean you're a PRACTICING homosexual? What happens when you get good at it?

j/k :haha:

Nope, I'm sayin' my gov. is sucking socialist cock... and that's pretty gay.....

Even if we say we are a democratic republic.... The direction we are going is as gay as the guy who let himself get screwed in the ass by a horse and thought it would be a good idea to video tape it.... you know what? HE DIED!!!

And everyone will remember him as the homo who LET the horse Screw him in the ass! Not for anything else...

How will our nation be remembered????

Well I don't know about you but I prefer being an animal living in reality as opposed to a machine living under the thumb of logic. Who's logic?

Logic is just the idea that 'x happened because of y' as opposed to 'x happened'. The only reason 'logic' differs from person to person is that they're skewing it to suit them. (I'm no exception: everyone does this, although I try my best not to)

Anyway, I agree with you. (I think..) There's no sense in trying to be something you're not.

Thing is though you can get x from several different y's. So what logic or scenario are you using to explain how socialism would work or why it should?

Socialism would work if we were all the same exact person, identical in every single way. But we aren't, so give it up.

Twinsen, you are on the right track here. What you say is exactly right.

HOWEVER, and you must understand this: while liberals rant about individuality and tolerance, they are ACTUALLY DOING AWAY WITH IT!

They rant about individuality and tolerance while supporting policy that guarantees the opposite - EQUALITY.

That's one thing that's so dangerous about liberals.

They disparage the rich. They condemn business. In their minds, it's not FAIR that some should have what they, themselves, do not. They enact laws to ensure equality. They attempt to LEGISLATE equality. In reality, it's fucking tyranny!

AND, they will NEVER give it up.

They're all for individuality and tolerance as long as everyone becomes just like THEM.

Open your mouth to express a DIFFERENT attitude and watch what they do. (tell you to STFU)

Bust your ass, take risks and ACHIEVE and watch what they do. (tax the fuck out of you)

That is what they call "fairness."

In reality, it's TYRANNY.

Yeah, and none of that would be a problem, if we all had the same hobbies and interests and goals in life. So you get 20 elitists in a room with the same goals and expectations of life, and they don't see a problem.

Socialism would work if we were basically machines with no human wants, desires or motivations beyond basic living needs and a drive for maximum efficiency. That's why Stoic or Stoic-ish philosophers like Plato were keen on it; the efficiency and peace part. Needless to say though, the conditions will never be met. It should not be attempted.

Let me clarify the logic idea. It's like this: in the universal timeline of events, event X happened as a result of a number of other events, and event X will compound with every other event that happened since the beginning of time to cause event 'Y' and so forth. It's the idea that events in the universe can be explained through one unimaginably huge algorithm. Fallacious logic happens when a person fails to accurately piece together the section of the algorithm in question.

The reasons why people will never be able to comprehend the whole picture include human emotion, animal instinct, and lack of raw information. Without all these hindrances, we'd basically be gods.

It's one thing to look at what has happened and show how it came about. It's another to figure out what's next. That's why I don't get how you are throwing emotion, etc. into the picture. I firmly believe that nobody, not even god can figure out what I'm going to do next for a certainty. All anyone could do is make an educated guess based on the events that previously transpired.
