S-12 UTG Quad Rail. Yuck.

Recommended Posts

Well I just got my CTD flyer and was looking through it. I happened across UTG's latest offering for the S-12 and have to say that it doesn't look that good. Granted, they have good intensions in their design and what they offer (two different top rails and rail covers) for a price of $69.97. But they lost me when it comes to application and looks. See below...

I think that both top rails look make-shift with all the screws. Furthermore, the top rails don't seem to match/blend with the bottom rail system. All in all it looks pretty cheesy compared to the offerings from some of this site's vendors. Granted it's cheaper, but don't try to buy one from CTD just yet. Their website says that they're out of stock.

I have Halo and a Chaos rails on my S12's,both are great.I cant comment on the UTG for the S12 but i do have one on a 7.62 and am very happy with it,only complaint is there isnt enough room for a detachable flashlight mount,on most the tightening screw is to large and rubs against the side of the rail..i had to modify mine with a smaller head (bolt head) now its not detachable :(

I don't like rails, but to each his own.

I guess I just don't see the point of all that modularity.

For me the #1 reason is easy mounting for a flashlight,i live very rural..when i here the dogs barking i need a light to see whats snooping around.

Dude man, you're like so wrong, the UTG Chinese rails are going to be the best rails ever made; the Chinese make the best products on EARTH!!!! Just ask all those fucking idiot commie lovers in the other UTG threads.

I'll stick with Cameron's kick-ass All American work!

Would you feel the same way if you found out the rail in that picture was made in an American shop and stamped "made in the USA"?

Imo, these UTG rails look pretty shitty, (both in appearance and construction). Cheap, foreign, mass-produced crap when you can get proven, high-quality American products for ~$30 more? No thanks.

Yes. Imo these rails look like shit no matter where they were made.

You're assuming that the quality would then increase.

If they do start making them here, one of two things will happen:

1) They'll still be the same exact rails, only with a "US" mark on it.

or

2) They will increase the quality, and then it would most likely be priced within the area of Cameron's and Kross' rails. In which case, I'd still pick a Chaos or Kross rail.

Agreed. The rail is crap simply because it is. I looks heavy. There is no bracing for the section above the gas tube so it looks like it would just bounce around with your sight on it. It appears to just clamp around the barrel and the gas tube without extending/bracing itself into the receiver. The design appears poor therefore it's not going on my 12. And it is made in a country by a company that generally puts out crap. I have made that "its cheaper" thought process and have kicked myself later every time.

Unlike you I actually did my research and contacted UTG, all of their products are made in China. Try researching for yourself, before posting crap like this.

Oh yeah, I love having a flashlight, I just don't like all that extra rail. It's just an aesthetic thing really.

Boba is referring to what he posted about a little bit ago: He had a thread stating he heard that UTG was going to start manufacturing their stuff in the US.

That being said, I still stand by my last post.

I hear a lot of things :)

I heard that Ted Kennedy had risen from the grave to try to hook up with some hookers on K Street. Okay, only part of that is true.

My friend has a UTG rail on his AR-15 and it looks awful and weighs a metric fuckton.

Is a fuckton heavier than a shitton?

Of all the things posted in this thread you accuse me of stirring up shit.

You're hilarious.

Yeah, where the hell'd that come from? It's not as though you've ever posted any ridiculous "lookit me, the oppressed drama queen" threads in the past, right?:D

I don't know why you take every post that's even slightly negative toward you on this anonymous internet forum so personally. Just let it go.

That depends on where the shit comes from.

You can't wait to get it back? What happened to it?

One of two things: Either it was that one bad lemon out of a batch and machined wrong or Me, several employees at my local gun range, and Zenmetsu just don't know how to mount picatinny accessories.

Either way Kross has been amazing at responding with this.

I've got a Kross FLTR on the way, (they shipped it the next business day :) ), and a few things to mount on it. What's wrong with the rails on the one you had? Too narrow, too wide...? Whatever it is, I'm glad to hear Kross is responding quickly to replace the faulty product.

I try very hard to buy made in the USA. I love my Kross rail. It look goods and is compatible with my existing top rail. I want to make a cup holder to accommodate a soda (beer  ) can, that I can mount to left side of my saiga. A book holder to hold porn behind my flash light on the right. That way I can enjoy all my infidel vices while blasting hole in targets that look like Osama Ben Laden.

To be honest I am not sure what is wrong with it exactly. I did measurements on it an it appears too thick from spec but I could be completely full of shit. Anyways, because of this nothing mounts to it and what does mount is very insecure.

Whatever the case I am very impressed with Kross/Zach's response to this issue. I love the look of the Kross rail.

Hmmm.. well, I tend to think that the out-of-spec rail you received is far from the norm for Kross.. and they've just started selling their rails, so a few faulty ones making it past QC is to be expected.

I agree. The Kross tri-rails are the best-looking ones on the market imo.

I agree. Besides, I haven't heard anything negative from people with Kross rails. Now if it was Boba debt's Ugly Tiawanese Gimmickstick of a rail...
