Well, its even more than that. I'm watching it right now, and they are supposedly duracoating some chick's gun and it had to be 'done by the weekend' for a class. Last time I checked, duracoat takes only a day to set to be handled, but needs two weeks to set properly before the firearm can be used and fired.

I mean, are they stupid or just lying for the sake of television??

I took my Florida CCW class from that guy, before Colorado became a "Shall Issue" state. It was 4 hours of lecture/custom .45 sales pitch/"cool-guy-story-time" with no shooting component. It was the easiest and fastest way to get the cert I needed for the permit, though.

im glad it's a television show and not your opinion on american made weapons!

That's what I was thinking what I first read the title. I guess I read it too quick.

I haven't seen this show, but have heard of it. Sounds like I'm not missing anything. The only thing worth watching on TV right now is Walking Dead, anyway.

The apparent production values of the show indicate that the producers have a very low opinion of the target audience's emotional interest or intellectual motivation for their interest in firearms. The show is a prime example of advertiser pushed shallow teledrama. DIY and HGTV show the same trend of peurile flash. My own DIY, gardening, and gunning is way more interesting, to me anyway.

Calm down, tell a good story about the artefact or history, show me the real technical details; but that approach does not sell in the attention deficient demographic which defines the long since televized US audience.

The only reason to watch, would be the daughter...

yep, that's the only thing that is of interest. and the DISCOVERY channel knows this as well. what better way to draw fat, balding middle aged men to watch a stupid reality show, but to throw in a tenderroni in the mix, and a M.I.L.F. viewership = sponsers = $$$$$$$$$$$

they might be slowling edging SOG out for this new show.

Yea, not sure if I like ot either, maybe get better later. Sons of guns was also good in the beging but getting worse! But still like it.Just dont like the way Will talks to his best gunsmith sometimes, guess it makes good tv ratings!

I really don't get it.

What do you people expect to see in a firearms show on network TV?

One side complains that Will looks like he just walked in after a 3 day bender & doesn't give enough attention to technical aspects but just ties guns together.

The other side complains that this new guy is a slick salesman type & ignores the fact that they can make shit from raw steel.

Both shops are very capable.

Do you all really expect them to go in depth on how to program a CNC?

How many of you watch CSPAN?

That's about how much of a target audience that the purely technical show would have.

Furthermore, this is network TV. They just aren't going to show you exactly how to make a fucking firearm on network TV people.

You guys are going to have to accept the fact that the vast majority of viewers are fucking idiots & they have to throw in drama to keep their attention.

Pick up technical books, study metallurgy, study engineering &

if you want to learn how to make firearms... But that's too boring right?

Well then quit fucking bitching about TV shows who's sole intentions are to put shit that's mildly entertaining on TV so you're watching when the hard-on pill company's commercial airs.

Chrimany people, you have a full internet at your disposal.

Jump over to "The practical machinist" is you seek in depth tech shit, but the incessant whining every time a network show comes on about guns is getting a little old.

I like both shows.

Not because they show me how to do stuff, but because they're better background noise than the rest of the shit that's on the idiot box when I'm doing other stuff.

I don't believe anyone ever said they wanted a purely 'technical' show. Discovery has plenty of shows with great value and entertainment... Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs back in the day. The History Channel does a great job with Top Shot and lots of other gun specific shows. So, its very doable and Discovery is failing with their shows under this topic.

And I'm not saying American Guns isn't perfect... I'm just saying that its horrible. booo.gif

and lastly, Jesus... if we can't get on a fucking internet forum to bitch and complain about things then what the hell is this world coming to?? Sorry we... ruffled, your feathers, Mr. Duck.

Yeah, but you all forget, discovery is basic cable.

You don't even need a box for it.

The only reason half the people who don't pay to get indoctrinated by TV have it is because it's free with the internet.

Discovery is barely a step above network TV. At least it's half way interesting, but they're still targeting the general public.

I say more power to them.

The more joe-idiot identifies with people in the gun industry & see that normal respectable people own pretty neat guns & it's not just whack job paranoid Dale Gribble types the more mainstream our bad-ass toys become.

That makes it more unpopular to bend us over with bans.

Now yeah, "back in the day" American chopper was more educational as was quite a bit of their programming, but discovery went the same way as all networks are going. Perfect example is Nightline. That's why Ted Kople quit. He didn't want to be dumbed down.

But stupid people blow their money on stupid things & the advertisers are the ones who account for profit for free-TV.

Hey, if dressing the two shop owners up in diapers & having Gunsmoke's kid come out of the closet (the kid does look a little light in the loafers) can make Joe Q. Public identify with and embrace firearms ownership more, that only strengthens our cause, & I'm all for it.

Stupid people spend a lot of time in front of free TV & they vote.

These are 2 of the only shows that have ever shown firearms out of the context of killing people. More power to whoever can make them appeal to a wider audience, because the wider the audience, the more gunowners, the more gun owners, the more firearm's industry & the more neat things to come out & make the new converts love their new guns even more & the more they'll hate politicians that they see trying to take their guns.

I say ANY coverage in a semi-positive light or showing law abiding gun owner who's not missing teeth or wearing a wife beater with a can of Milwaukee's Best in the background is a good thing.

Just my

Yes, but when you are shredding Tannerite targets with weapons Joe Blow has no idea about either the weapon or target, that can have a negative impact as well. Throwing 40mm TP rounds at a harmless target laced with Tannerite producing a big boom makes some people wonder WTF us law abiding gun owners are up to. Just saying...

An ex-cop parading his jail bait (though very hot) daughter and wife with obviously new boobs and face lift, Justin Bieber looking son and a good 'ol American "I'm gonna rip you off attitude. I don't like it, but it doesn't make me bleed from the eyes like Top Shot does!

Didn't Will say that 20-something gun shops were interviewed before his crew was signed?

Next up...the shop in Philly that sells to the gangs in Camden, NJ. You heard it here first! lol.

The History Channel does a great job with Top Shot and lots of other gun specific shows.

Even Top Shot seems to be throwing in some ridiculous "drama" now. Like with the loud, cocky black guy who ended up just quitting the show because he knew he was going into an elimination. He threw a temper tantrum every episode. They also tout the show as showcasing "some of the world's best shooters", when maybe 1 from each show is an actual competitor. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the challenges they do. They look a lot of fun. I also like how (aside from the jerkoff I mentioned earlier) they have really down-to-earth "regular" people representing the gun community, and how they make shooting look fun, for shooters watching, and for people who may not really be into guns.

EDIT: ...................but they really need a new fucking host. That guy annoys the shit out of me, with his over the top, shot-for-shot narration of the challenges. "AND STEEEEEVE HAS 3 TARGETS UNDER HIS BELT!!......NOW MIIIIIIIIKE HAS 4 TARGETS!!.....UH OH, STEVE'S COMING BACK!!! HE'S NOT LETTING UP!!!..........OH MY GOD I JUST HAD AN ORGASM TO THE SOUND OF MY OWN VOICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!".

As far as technical shows...............anyone looking for them should check out Wednesday Night's at the Range on The Outdoor Channel. Lots of gun shows for people who are actually into guns. No drama. Just tons of gun porn and some useful info thrown into the mix.

far better gun shows is the one on OUTDOOR CHANNEL on wensday night, no drama, just gun talk about different guns. these "gun reality" shows, SOG, TOP GUN, AG, are nothing but floaters in the cesspool for people whose IQ level doesn't spike past 4. that is my opinion, and I make no apoligies for it
