dubya 198
I have a old timer at work that just picked up two guns that were stolen from him two years ago, a Rem model 7 and some high end over/under shotgun. Knowing I'm a gun addict he asked me what would take the smudged finger prints stuck on the bluing in SUPER GLUE. Yeo, someone got super glue fingerprints on the bluing and he understandably wants to remove the prints without removing or dulling the factory blue. Anyone have some tips? I was thinking Goo Gone but how would that affect the bluing? Here's a pic for all you bored fellas out there
BigChongus 765
Acetone. Won't effect the bluing but will take the glue right off.

BigChongus 765
Yep. Bluing is a metal oxide. Acetone won't touch it. Buuuuut, just for your peace of mind, I tried it on two of my own rifles and one of my blued Chinese mags. No problems at all.
JESS1344 508
DUBYA, BTW, THE SUPER GLUE FINGER PRINTS ARE QUITE LIKELY FROM THE POLICE FINGERPRINT TECH THAT USED SUPER GLUE VAPOR TO RAISE THE THIEVES PRINTS FOR PROCESSING. JESS1344

netpackrat 566
They make a debonding agent that is specifically designed to remove cyanoacrylate adhesives, which super glue is. You should be able to get it at any hobby shop that caters to R/C model builders.
dubya 198
Great answers fellas. I'm sure Denny will be thrilled to get his guns back in "normal" condition and be able to enjoy them again. I'll emailhim a llink to the thread. Again, thanks Cory
JESS1344 508
DUBYA, YES, IN SOME INSTANCES, THAT'S THE BEST, OR ONLY TECHNIQUE TO RECOVER PRINTS. AND YES, RE-OIL AFTER USING ACETONE, IF THAT'S WHAT YOU END UP USING, AS THE ACETONE WILL REMOVE ALL LUBRICANT, EVEN OUT OF THE PORES IN THE METAL. JESS1344

Flitz metal polish is magical shit. It left scratches on my dad's 10/22. There is abrasive and ammonia in flitz
