  1. C76II, I'd be interested in seeing a close-up pic of what your (or anyone else's) shortened and rounded off the BHO looks like if there isn't one already floating around. If you have a stock BHO you could stick in the shot for comparison it'd really be helpful, too. I was trying to figure out the best way to cut mine down, but I'm not too proud to copy someone more skilled and experienced than myself. Thanks! Regards, Sapper PS - Site search came back with plenty of BHO-PIA threads - but I couldn't find any regarding this mod.
  2. MT, I'm not sure if it's common or not, but the same thing happened to me. In my case it was because the BHO spring slipped off the tab it's supposed to sit on, and the whole BHO became stuck up inside the receiver. It was jammed up so tight that I didn't think I was ever going to get my bolt carrier out of the gun. After clearing the jam (and to fix the problem), I used a pair of needle-nose pliers to slightly bend the tip of the BHO spring over the tab. I've put about 250 rounds through the gun since then with no issues. While the BHO isn't really necessary or traditional on the x39, I l
  3. I'll may take heat for this and I'm not sure I believe it myself, but 922r has done its part to support the US economy. Its passage created a growing market for American-made parts for our beloved foreign firearms purchases. For all we bitch about the unconstitutional nature of 922r, a lot of Americans are making money producing the quality parts we need to be legal. How many in the Saiga/AK community would be using imported parts if not for 922r? And after using these home-grown parts, how many of us would settle for less quality if 922r were repealed? Just a few thoughts (and no attempt to c
  4. Billyjoebob, Congrats on your conversion. C76II is dead on. Both my x39 and S-12 had the same mainspring issue you're describing. I used a pair of needle-nose pliers to bend the BHO-side leg towards the outside of the receiver, and I've had no issues after hundreds of rounds through each. As for the BHO (PIA) I found this video very helpful. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SHxMxKgM6qM Regards, Sapper P.S. Unless we see pictures, it didn't happen!
  5. StarPD, I'd love to see a pic of your rig if you've got one. Thanks. Regards, Sapper
  6. I call bullshit. The vast majority here simply want true justice, a end to the repeat violent offenders and a end to the wasted taxpayer dollars keeping human trash alive and well, serving prolonged/life terms. We don't want blood & gore, we want quick & clean public executions, e.g. hanging, firing squad and lethal injection. We know what we're asking for, we want the real sick fucks dead, no longer any threat to society. +1 Our liberal, media-controlled society has warped the minds of even our most sympathetic brothers. Come on everyone, let's humanize the criminal and
  7. Thanks Corbin! Now I have to decide whether to attach the sling to the top tube or the bottom tube since the swivel bands in the above pics are sold by diameter and aren't universal. I'm using a rail-mounted front sling swivel on a DPH tri-rail so I have a lot of flexibility up front. But what do you guys prefer (tactical top, AK-style side or traditional-bottom slings)?
  8. Thanks Rob, I'll go with 0.750" diameter on the skeleton stock tubes. Anyone else got any ideas on this or other solutions? Thanks! Regards, Sapper
  9. Greetings all, I have been unsuccessfully trying to find a sling mount for my Ace skeleton folder. As you can see from the pics, I am using an internal block and my folding mechanism does not have the screw hole normally used for a sling swivel. Rather than drilling and tapping the folding mechanism, I thought I might try to attach a swivel to the stock tubes themselves. I found two potential solutions that would allow me to do this, but I need to know the exact diameter of the skeleton stock tubes for it to work. Does anyone know the tube diameters, or has someone a
  10. Jugs, I'm not really sure if this is what you're looking for, but Army FM 7-8 touches on fields of fire in the defense. The entire FM can be found here : FM 7-8 (Infantry Rifle Platoon and Squad) Chapter 2 Section 5 deals specifically with defensive operations, and a blank standard range card can be found in the annexes at the end. Regards, Sapper
  11. Not to go off topic..... but you may want to "FEEL THE CHANGE!" From Washington Post article on the rules of engagement in Afghanistan. I'm not making these up; General McChrystal is. After all, we don't want any Afghans to get hurt. #7 Only women can search women. ( After all, it's not as if they would "cheat" by wearing women's clothing.) #6 No night or surprise searches. #5 Villagers have to be warned prior to searches. #4 ANA or ANP must accompany U.S. units on searches. ( Assuming the Afghan army or police feel like showing up. NO penalty for not showing up.) #3 U.S. s
  12. jtp, Since my only training and experience in the use of lethal force is from the military, is it safe to say that I am justified in emptying a 10-round S-12 mag of .00 buck to "stop" a threat? The U.S. Army has a bad reputation for overkill, and I wouldn't want to get into trouble for falling back into old habits! That being said (tongue firmly in cheek of course), thanks for making the distinction. Sometimes the terminology we use can get us into more trouble than the acts we commit. Even in the desert we learned very quickly to fill our after-action reports with "safe" words. How does
  13. WhiteTrashRN, Good luck with your procedure! I'm in NEPA too, and I'm looking to get my eyes done soon. Please let me know how it goes and who did the cutting. Regards, Sapper
  14. So, you do not trust yourself and refuse to stand behind your own work? Or are you refering to the homebrew of another? I ask, because I trust my work above all others. +1 1. "workmanship" - possibly, but vodka specials can happen anywhere. Who would have thought that the home of the Kalashnikov could have screwed up so badly? 2. "warranty" - If you use quality guaranteed parts and are sure of your own "workmanship," is this really an issue? I'll take my lovingly restored and meticulously maintained Saiga over the rest! Regards, Sapper
  15. I just installed an ACE folder on my s-.308. There is a set screw that can be removed, and replace with the sling swivel. The two pictures you provide only differ between being set up as a left folder, or right folder. Remove the set screw and just screw in the swivel (mine is from ACE). Reno2507, Thanks for the reply! I'm deployed right now and don't have my S-12 handy (bummer I know) so can you describe or post pics of where exactly the set screw is located? Is it where the sling swivel on Azrial's weapon is located or somewhere else? I seem to remember one on mine, but I thought
  16. Form the Associated Press -- "The motive for the attacks remains murky. Malvo said Muhammad wanted to extort $10 million from the government to set up a camp in Canada where homeless children would be trained as terrorists." AP Story Just like the latest act of war inside the US by the Fort Hood shooter, the liberal Islamic apologists were able to keep these shootings from being labeled blatant acts of war inside the United States. I know this falls into the political discussion subforum, but I urge everyone to write their senators (send Joe Lieberman one as well) and encourage them to
  17. My NIB S-12 came with a small black thread protector wrench as well. I don't use any aftermarket muzzle devices so I'm not sure if the wrench is multi purpose or not. BTW, the wrench was loose in the box and not part of the capsule tool kit. Regards, Sapper
  18. B(.)(.)bies, From TopGlock.com: "The small, hallow cavity behind the magazine in the bottom of the grip is left open. This allow for dirt and debris to enter the pistol's frame and possibly interfere with the trigger assembly. Now you can stop that from happening by using one of our Glock plugs. The plug is an essential element to protecting your glock. It serves many purposes, and is an inexpensive upgrade to your Glock pistol. The plug aids in guiding a magazine into the well, decreasing the time required for those crucial magazine changes. The plug assures your magazine wil
  19. We pickle them every year, seal the jars and stick them in the canning cellar. First day of deer season the following year they are opened, sliced and eaten cold for luck in the hunt. This is not quite as cool as the "Red Dawn" scene, but it is a long-standing family ritual. Friends and younger family members seem to appreciate the initiation into the clan. Regards, Sapper
  20. Dexmar, Does your BHO still seem operable? My S-12 experienced the same issue (or something similar based on your description) when the BHO spring slipped off the leg it normally sits on. It was a real PIA to unjam. It took a few minutes with a set of dental picks and some choice swear words for me to get the BHO out of the way and the bolt carrier removed. If it is the BHO it should be pretty obvious. The little tab actually disappeared into the receiver and the jam was only fixed by forcing it back into its slot. Good luck. Regards, Sapper
  21. Brian & Crew, Any idea when the .30-caliber AK-74 M24x1.5 muzzle brakes (part # 74MB2430) will be back in stock? I need an AK74 Front Sight Block (part # 74FSB571), an AK-74 M24x1.5 muzzle brake (part # 74MB2430) and a Bulgarian Type II bayonet (part # BAYOBUL2BAKE) and I'd really like to get it all in the same order. After my previous experience with you folks (absolutely outstanding in EVERY way), I'll be patient because I'd really like to give you my business. If the brakes aren't coming back, though, do you have any idea where I can get another that will work with my x39 (without b
  22. Go with the S-12, and post videos! BTW, what kind of loads are recommended for flying fish? Welcome to the forum! Regards, Sapper
  23. We have two of three kids down with the swine flu right now (positive on both A & B tests). In our case at least, it seems to be mostly hype. Tamiflu wasn't recommended by the doctors - only broad spectrum antibiotics. Like the seasonal flu, the most serious dangers of H1N1 seem to be from bacteria-related complications (strep, pneumonia, etc.). Antibiotics for the complications; OTC meds for the symptoms; rest, time and plenty of fluids for recovery. The two sick kids are on the recovery side of it, the third child seems fine and the wife and I are more exhausted than sick. We didn't take
