  1. Install the bullet guide and shave the mag catch, you could use 5-10 round mags from here : https://www.dkmags.com/page20.html <--10 rounders for $13 apiece or 5 rounders for $10 apiece.
  2. Looks like it, and looks like Wolf and Bear are starting to come back in boxes of 20 and cases of 500 and 1000 instead of just cases.
  3. xbox360, the AK is made to forcibly strip the cartridge from the magazine and slam it into battery, being rough with it helps it go in when dirty. If you pull the charging handle to the rear, just let it go and the weapon will feed perfectly. Keep in mind that the rifle you own is a very rugged machine, it was designed to withstand tremendous pressure and abuse. Do not be afraid to be rough with your AK.
  4. Yeah, that'll make you compliant, but take a look at this thread : http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?showtopic=13290 Behold the beauty of converted Saigas and tell me you still don't want to take the plunge :-P
  5. Does anyone here have any more examples of EPIC FAIL Saigas or other guns in particular?
  6. I've never had to prove any of my pre-bans are pre-bans. The whole "don't bother with pre-bans because you'll get harrased" thing irks me. It makes people less likely to get a proper mag for their gun just because they've been given some misinformation. I've walked down Main Street of my town with that on my back, cops didn't bother me at all, neither did DEC.
  7. 1) bullet guide for the caliber of your rifle 2) Shave down the "top shelf" of the mag catch (NOT THE LEVER YOU MOVE, BUT THE METAL ABOVE IT). Shave down a little at a time and see if the mag fits. Keep shaving, SLOWLY, until you get 'em to fit just right. Make sure to get mags from various countries so you can make sure you've shaved enough to account for the various tolerances (I got two Romanians, a Polish and an East German mag and they all fit in that order. First the Rommies fit, but the Polish and German wouldn't, then the Polish one would and finally the German. ONCE AGAIN, GO SLOWLY.
  8. Retaining plate for the pins would be stellar. Don't forget the bullet guide AKA feed ramp to use standard AK-47 magazines.
  9. You're one paranoid goofball, you know that? A lot of them ask for ID because their states require it. Some do, some do not. Another reason some do it that way is that they do not have to require a signature from somebody 21 or older to sign for the package, since the carrier only makes about 3 attempts to deliver before they return it.
  10. Hey, I have that exact same TV stand :-P Glad you decided to convert, you're going to love the waaaaaay better trigger pull :-D
  11. http://www.saigastock.com/index.php?main_p...cbf875e4081aa04 Wood stock and forearm for 7.62x39 and .223 Saigas, 4 units in stock.
  12. People who are all nutty about "dimples" are just goofy. It's 100% cosmetic and it doesn't really even look that good, IMO. Mine doesn't have dimples and it looks just great converted. Also, SOPMOD, I realize you were frustrated, but using a slur for homosexuals to show your distaste for something is unnecessary.
  13. Well, SOG e-mailed me back, they were out of stock even though it said in stock when I ordered it. Oh well, I had to cancel
  14. Thanks for the link to the Yugo stuff at SOG, I just ordered 300 rounds to give me a decent reserve while I start buying it 100 rounds or so at a time.
  15. If it doesn't stop the bolt from closing and feeds fine, you should be alright.
  16. Thanks for the offer of help, Big Boss. I'll give it some thought. I'm sure the Saiga's trigger would be improved by a conversion, but will give myself a chance to get used to it first. I actually prefer the "dorky but dangerous" look of the Saiga over that of the "evil" AK. Kinda like an updated SKS. I've got a dremel, a drill press and some metal working experience, so don't imagine a conversion would be too tough once I knew what needed to be done. We'll see; the jury's still out. Thanks especially for the mojosights link. Most all of my other unscoped rifles have aperture sig
  17. The NRA is a bunch of Fudds. The NY branch of the NRA did absolutely jack shit to prevent pistol permits, changes to the permit system, they don't fight the AWB. If Heston really meant "from my cold dead hands" he'd have been holding an AR or an AK, not a damn muzzleloader :-P If anything, the GOA is the org you really want to join. At least they care about gun rights beyond being able to own a bolt-action rifle for hunting.
  18. http://www.mojosights.com/ak47_sks.html <--add a rear peep sight for the...eyes that have seen a lot in their time and thus "aint what they used to be" :-P Make sure your stock is NATO length so you get that extra LOP, you may find that will be just as good as the regular stock. Converting is worth it just for the massively better trigger pull alone. ^--and it's cool that it ends up looking like that ;-P (note : that's a Warsaw length stock, NATO stocks are 1.5 inches longer. You can get a slip-on "recoil pad" to add an extra inch of pull if you need) I live in Upstate
  19. You can choose to pay via Money Order. Buy it from Dinzag.
  20. I recommend doing it yourself, it's easy as cake! If you really have to, I can help you if you're willing to come here and you bring a Dremel tool with an orange grinding wheel. -Conversion video : http://vimeo.com/2787027 <--it's for the x39, but the process is the same -Conversion website guide : http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/ <--the info is old, but between this and that you should have all you need to do this -Parts : http://www.dinzagarms.com/index.html
  21. http://www.samcoglobal.com/Ammunition.html <--limit of one 1260 case per customer, but no limit on the 1120 cases. This is brass-cased, berdan primed and some claim it's corrosive (no big deal if it is).
  22. You don't consider yourself reputable? :-D Converting is easy! I was nervous as hell, but once I took the plunge, I kicked myself for being so worried. Seriously, I have no technical experience, but I got mine done. This is the first AK rifle I've ever owned, so it's not like I was an expert with the things either. Trust me, it's simple, check out some links : -Conversion video : http://vimeo.com/2787027 <--it's for the x39, but the process is the same -Conversion website guide : http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/ <--the info is old, but between this and that you should
  23. The .308 Saiga is capable of firing 7.62x51 NATO. Clean the bore, re-crown the rifle if you have to and get a new FSB put on there. Sure, the barrel will look ugly, but it's an AK, they aren't made to be beauty queens. Or just sell it to somebody who has the time and inclination to fix 'er up and nab a .308 Saiga. :-D All you need to do is drop like $5 and you can post in the WTS / WTB forums.
  24. Welcome, good to have you here :-D The conversion is easy, even for somebody like me with no technical skills. A few simple things to keep in mind when converting should make things go smooth : take your time and go slow, rushing things leads to mistakes, possibly costly ones. If something seems like it isn't right, it probably isn't, so if something starts to go wrong, stop immediately. Think "what am I trying to accomplish?" and think of possible solutions and methods to attain that goal. As they say, there's more than one way to skin a cat. So just keep that in mind when converting
