  1. HA! been there brother. sucks balls. i too went the route of an extractor, then graduated to the big hammer method and was still unsuccessful. luckily i had a buddy who worked in a machine shop and he managed to get it out for me. but yeah....broken tap=PITA
  2. i would think the grill would work just fine, as long as you can keep the internal temp around 300F of so, you should be good like wood
  3. +1 top that. thats the paint that i use. i never have problems with solvents taking it off. its good stuff
  4. MWA is back up. check em out. i buy all my stuff from them. you will not be disappointed
  5. the recoil buffer slides on over the end of the spring. you dont have to take it apart to install the buffer. all you gotta do is remove the spring from the gun, and slip it on. no worries man
  6. good call man. ill keep that in mind for next time...but i still maintain that big hammers are more fun to use than dremels...but thats just me talking
  7. i had the same trouble when i went with the krebs sight. all i can tell you is make sure you have the gas tube and rec braced properly, and just slam the SH!T out of it. It took me lots of smacks with a 4 lb mini sledge to get mine out. be presistant and just beat the hell out of it. expect a few dings. i got a few on the gas tube and what not. iw as gonna fix em, but decided to leave em cause they give the gun "character"

+1 to that! get you some hi power shells and run em thru your gun. get everything lossened up. you can also do some polishing of the contact surface on the hammer, where the bolt travels over it, just to help smooth things out. And after you give the recoil spring a good workout with some 3" shells, she'll run like a champ...might i suggest a recoil buffer as well. doesnt really do much for reducing recoil, but it does help cushion the inpact of the bolt carrier slamming into the back of the reciever ALSO +1 on the FEDERAL ammo. stay away from the winchester stuff
  9. i did not reinstall the factory BHO on my saigas. I just notched the safety lever. i like it better that way, but to each his own
  10. JOE!! you lucky SOB!!!! that thing looks amazing. congrats on an awesome new toy!!!!!! now, the only question i have for you is, when do i get to shoot it??!!??!!??!!??!!
  11. Welcome to the forum!!!! you're gonna love it here as to the conversion, you are really the only person that can answer that for you. If you are even a little mechanically inclined, doing he conversion yourself is no sweat. Ive done conversions on all my saigas in my garage with some crappy tools. Its not professional quality, but like you, i dont have the cash to go the route of tromix. But, ya know, even if i did have the cash, i still think id do the work myself. let me say that i have seen some of tonys work first hand and it is absolutely top notch. EXCELLENT work and many others onth
  12. you definitely wanna go with a buttstock for your HD gun. firing with out one can be very hard to control. and there is much more to a shotgun than "aim in the general direction and dont stop pullin' the trigger till it clicks". i shoot a lot of trap as well, some with my saiga and some with my remy 1100, and as far as im concerned a buttstock is just as important for HD as it is for busting clays. i mean, you wouldnt try to turn clay into powder without a shoulder stock would ya??? (ok ok, yes ive tried it, im sure we all have) but seriously. to be accurate you need the stability of having th

37!!!!!!!! (he says with fingers crossed)
  14. the only problem with my 10 round mag is only being able to fit 9 in there....
  15. i think you gotta heat that red loctite up to about 500 degrees before you try to loosen anything up. i hit mine with a propane torch for a while, she'll loosen up
  16. i usually save cleaning my saigas for rainy days when i have nothing else to do...ive got my american guns that HAVE to be cleaned, then my saigas that only need cleaning when i get around to it. i think its been about 1000 shells since ive cleaned my S-12, and still runs like a champ, even the low brass stuff
  17. definitely guys, hes talking about shot size when he said 7.5
  18. WAY TO GET EM JOE!!! glad to hear progress is being made on your SBS. You got yourself the beginings of a NICE collection going on there
  19. i put a T6 on all of the conversions i have done, including my S12. many thousand shells later, it runs like a champ. that stock is super solid
  20. Im glad im not the only one that does that...i tried that at a place in florida....they quite impolitely asked me never to come back. At first glance they didnt appreciate my s12 with a pistol grip and detachable mags, but when they saw how i like to shoot trap, 8 at a time, they nearly shit themselves
  21. IIRC, the only thing i used in my dremel for my conversions was the fiberglass reinforced (DRE426) cut off wheels...and even then i didnt use it a lot and could have done the conversions without it, but it did make things much easier. Whatever you do, make sure to invest in some quality drill bits. spend a couple bucks more and get some good ones. you will thank me later. i use titanium coated bits (golden colored) and they work great.
  22. i dont know about having so many threads exposed or whatever, but this is how i do it. Screw the gas regulator all the wat down as far as it will go, then back it out. the first click will be the number one setting, then keep backing it out till you get to the number two setting. works great for me....truth be told, you prolly should go back through your gas tube and over the "plug" piston with some cleaner and make sure everything is nice and smooth in there...hope this helps
  23. the obvious answer to that question is BOTH!! ofcourse thats not always an option...i for one would go for the x39. it was my first saiga and by far my favorite caliber of what i own. bigger slower bullet delivers more of a punch and will go through walls without blowing to pieces.
  24. you are gonna have to get rid of that folding stock/pistol grip combo of you are gonna change out the fire control group anyway....that stock setup is made to work with the trigger in the factory position which is several inches to the rear of where it will be if you go with the G2 trigger group. If you stick with that stock the gap between the grip and the trigger will be HUGE
