  1. On my 5.45 the rivets were also stuck in the receiver very securely. It seems like the whole rivets swell out in the hole and get wedged in both the plate and the receiver.
  2. I always use aluminum pieces that I made for hammering the fsb and gas block down. They are made of a piece of solid aluminum bar, and I bored a hole in the center that will slip over the barrel but catches on the fsb and gas block. Depending on the sight block you are installing, it may be easier. As with some sight blocks they are "collared" and extend all the way to the end of the barrel, so you can just use a piece of aluminum or brass to hammer on and just get them flush. I align them by getting the rifle level in a vise with a laser boresighter aimed across the room. Then I put a laser l
  3. It is. Think it's a 100 series actually, but I'm not sure. It's definitely 5.45 or 5.56.

    Magpul MOE Grip..

I have made two of those style safeties, that first one was made from screws and nuts, I don't remember what size though. The metal is just a thin piece of steel I had lying around. Then I laid it over the safety on the receiver and drew a line even with the stamped line on the original safety (for cosmetic reasons only) and also drew a line that was even with the bottom of the receiver when the safety is off. The first line I just used a grinder to trim the metal to line up with the safety, and the second line I put in a vise with the jaws even with the line and bent the piece to 90 degrees.

    Magpul MOE Grip..

To fit the Magpul MOE to the rifle you'll need a dremel and some cut off wheels. You have to cut the rear upward pointing tang off flush, then mill out the grip where the nut goes through (if you don't have a pistol grip nut you'll need one of those as well), the Magpul has a second hole inside the grip that lines up perfectly for the AK grip nut for some odd reason, but hey that's lucky for us. Then you'll have to either cut the notch that the grip nut goes into lower inside the MOE, or you will have to grind and shape the nut from your AK to fit the grip as it is too long to go in without mo
  6. What model rifle is it? Lancaster Roughriders had problems being overgassed, you might want to check it out.
  7. Abraham Lincoln made all men free in this country, but Samuel Colt made them equal.
  8. I do like the new design a lot better, but I also noticed in the pictures I've seen... All the older fat ones are on stamped rifles, this new design I have only ever seen on a milled rifle. They will not interchange, so is perhaps one design going to be used for milled and another for stamped, or are we only seeing demo pictures and the new design will be used on both?
  9. This video shows an unfair comparison. That old guy is just that good of a shot. There's another video of him using a .40 cal Glock at that range and he hits the plate like 4/10 rounds if I remember correctly. That said yeah, 100 yards is not a long range shot, and any AK should be hitting a man sized target at 300 yards with practice.
  10. I'm going to start making and marketing THESE at gun shows.
  11. From what I have been hearing on this issue, I think they should see what going back to a rifle instead of a carbine will do for them. They are complaining about power at range, and then they issue short barrels that drastically cut the velocity of the round at the muzzle... It would at least be a good intermediate solution to partially but not completely fix issues, and it shouldn't cost as much as some other solutions.
  12. I'm a bit confused. Do you have a regular pistol grip nut that is separate from the receiver, or is it one that's attached to the trigger guard? although it really shouldn't matter as even if the nut/bushing is loose in the receiver, the pistol grip still shouldn't have any play after you tighten the screw as it should locate flat against the receiver and the trigger guard should fit back into the front of the grip. Tighten the screw and it should be rock solid.
  13. Sig 55x series. Take the best things about the M16, such as the takedown pins, and modular design being easy to adapt. Drop in an AK styled bolt/carrier system. Call it good and sell it for a ludicrous price. Yes it's a fantastic rifle, yes, it seems to perform incredibly well, no I won't pay that much for it. It's really a win win though. If the US contracts them, then they'll start making them here, then companies will sell to civilians and more of them saturate the market. Price goes down and then I can afford one. Here's the carrier system in from one, does it look familiar to
  14. Actually I have seen that software, and while I wouldn't want it mounted on the rifle, it could be a very valuable tool for anyone needing to make any long range shots. It apparently can take all sorts of variables such as all of the info on the round you're firing, the length of the barrel on the rifle, wind speed and direction, temperature and almost any other imaginable factor and give you a correct point of aim for hitting the target at extremely long distances. Necessary, no, but I imagine it's much quicker than using a pencil and paper.
  15. As long as the rear of your Saiga accepts standards stamped AK furniture the Tantal, Romanian and East German wire folders will mount right into it. They use the same mounting points that a fixed stamped receiver AK stock does.
  16. I've ordered from K-Var. They are the only game in town for many parts. Got my items quickly, prices were cheaper than private sellers on forums and the parts were all individually packed in heat sealed plastic bags. When I need specific parts (bullet guides, rivets, pistons) I go to them and will again.
  17. Just got the Kobra today. Great guy, just as described. Thanks.
  18. Not right off. EDIT: FALSE INFORMATION REMOVED... I'll have to track down my calipers to measure the actual rod itself. .214" is the bore diameter for 5.45, so anything larger will not go down.
  19. Actually the ones on their site are the Generation 2 Kobra's. I have never heard or seen any fakes of them yet. I have one with the non-skeletonized side mount and like it a lot actually.
  20. It will work if it's an East German, Romanian, or Polish Tantal stock. Hungarian AMD wire stocks look different, they are more of a T shape and will not work.
  21. The Milled receiver AK's are copies of the first production AK's. The original design was for a stamped receiver, but because Soviet manufacturing facilities were not outfitted to produce them in any quantity (due to already producing other milled firearms), so they used a milled version until the factories were switched over to produce the stamped ones. There is no benefit to a milled receiver aside from the collector's value of it. They weigh more, and do not function any better. It would require extensive modification to get Saiga 12 parts to work in a milled receiver, probably requiring th

    Saiga 5.45 Prices

I bought mine at the local gun show for $375 out the door in April. It was the only one in the entire building... I asked a few vendors and they said that they had sold out of the ones they ordered and hadn't ordered any more yet. The guy I bought it from said he had just received it the day before and it was his only one. Something tells me these dealers need to learn what customers are looking for instead of trying to tell us what we want.
  23. As far as I know the Kobra's are no longer produced. I don't know if that's true, but it's what I have heard.
  24. I also prefer the flat black Alumahyde II from Brownells. Just make sure you get extra nozzles for the spray can as it will clog.
