  1. I received my US GK-01 today. Carolina SS has always been great with parts, and I expect more of the same. I will keep folks posted and take pictures if it would be helpful. Should get out this coming weekend.

    Range report

That's a little disturbing. Please keep us posted on that.
  3. Jestice Arms -- google, or email sales@jestice arms. When I emailed the guy a week ago or so, he still had about 9 RPK sets left (most weren't matching color). It will take some dremmeling on the handguards and buttstock. I actually have a better fit out of the lower handguard now. The upper handguard is a pain to remove, have to get a good grip on the gas tube and twist the plastic off. It's not so hard to get the wood on, though.
  4. Thanks. It's short -- 12" from trigger to buttplate. The RPK stock looks a lot longer than it actually is. Gives some room for a thick pad, but I think I'd have to make that.
  5. I can't speak for them, but some emails with the importer let me believe they're working on it. Part of the problem is that there aren't really any spare parts for replacements, and top rail issue isn't easily repaired. The stock lives up to Atlantic's warnings. Whether the stock is considered a warranty issue, I don't know. Even if the stock is mounted well, it doesn't have enough in the way of a buttpad to be good for a 12 gauge -- it's more suited to a rifle with low recoil. I wanted the wood stock to serve as a template for an RPK wood replacement. It served that purpose at least.
  6. Refitted with RPK wood. Next step refinishing.
  7. It's cool. I need to make a phone call tomorrow. We'll get to the bottom of this.
  8. I did the table-top test, and you're right, there is a lesser cant between the sights as well.
  9. Here's mine: That's about as good a picture of it as I can get without fighting autofocus all day. The plane of the rail should be parallel to the plane of the sight. It's clearly, sadly not. It might be a moot issue; the more I play with the hinge-mount dustcover/rail, the less I find it a feature and the more I find it a design flaw. There is play in the dustcover and how it seats, and that exacerbates the cant on the sloppily mounted rail (I think the bad mount is due to bad screw/rivet placement). Not to mention the picantinny grooves challenge my eyes' ability to focus on the ir
  10. Mine has some issues, but I don't really like the way the poll is worded. Not sure I'll seek waranty work or that it's even available.
  11. Can anyone from Atlantic let us know who to go to for warranty issues?
  12. There's handguard play on mine too, but I intend to replace those -- will see how it goes trying to get RPK wood in place.
  13. Mine is canted, too. Better than canted sights, but still problematic for anything I'd want to mount.
  14. Shh. You might start giving people the idea that 922r is a load of unenforceable horseshit designed to protect domestic firearms manufacturers. Why a guy who spouts liberty and flies the Gadsden flag would follow such nonsense is boggling (unless that guy is full of horseshit, too). I'm going to get back to re-manufacturing furniture. I've also been watching too much Boardwalk Empire~

    RPK Furniture

If anyone is looking for wooden RPK furniture, Jestice Arms has some mismatched sets. Send them an email.
  16. Wee man meaning Warsaw length? Sounds perfect to me. Sell it for $100 if you can, or, if I have any stock issues, I will buy it from you for $50. I'll let you know in about a day or two... Atlantic is selling them for $35 bucks. Ah, thanks for that. So they did cannibalize some of them...will keep this in mind.

  18. Cool. Any ETA on the US-made GK-01s?
  19. You are right about the design of the stock, but, according to some others on these bords, where the stock meets the receiver is an RPK fit. If you want wood, these AK-cut RPK interface stocks might be kinda hard to replace; even if they are in bad condition, they might be a bit of a rarity.
  20. Of course the stock is not as important as the gun. But wooden RPK stocks are not the easiest to come by. Ironwood charges $185, and Russian surplus is going to run a minimum of $150 once overseas shipping is factored in. It hurts to know that a serviceable stock might be removed, and it will cost the buyer 15-20% of the value of shotgun price to replace it.
  21. This is what Atlantic posted: Sounds like you can keep the wood option. I'd rather have wood in any condition than plastic. I can refinish wood, but plastic is kinda meh forever. RPK stocks are not cheap, either, and there aren't so many sources.
  22. 9mm is the way to go. The stopping power percentage differences between 9mm, .40, and .45 are not big enough to outweigh the benefit of extra rounds. And if you're trained to shoot 2 or 3 rounds in quick succession to stop the threat and then survey/break tunnel vision, you want as many rounds as you can get. I don't think you can go wrong with the Glock, but you might find that it's thick for pocket carry. I did, anyway. I had a Kimber Solo, but I came to a couple conclusions about it: First, the design isn't reliable enough yet for concealed carry, and second, it's too pretty/expensi
  23. I think the guy's point is that the Saiga 12 and Vepr 12 are of similar quality, that the receiver thickness is negligible and only translates into increased weight, and the barrel advantage of Vepr rifles is lost in the shotgun format. So the advantages of the Vepr 12 are its out-of-the-box features (which still justify the cost, imo), but DIY types might want to grab a Saiga and DIY... It's like the Arsenal SLR 106FR v. Saiga 223 argument, which ends up in circles.
  24. As long as the Vepr 12 is the "Russian tank" quality that's expected, it's a no-brainer that this is a tremendous deal. With or without freebies, with or without limited availability, the features and build quality should easily justify the price. If one has any doubts, simply look at K-Var's SGL12-67 offering -- a fair deal, but, for the same price, that gun simply doesn't promise as much as the Vepr 12. Very grateful y'all are bringing these in. Crossing fingers a bit that these work out of the box.
