  1. If I have to adjust the auto plug all the way in to fire bulk walmart ammo will that cause a problem with high brass stuff? My concern is that the plug will be so tight that it will create an over gassed situation since the spring is compacted too much. Or should I just run everything high and low on that setting and it will still regulate properly? Also, I have been doing a lot of work on my gun and suspect that it needs more gas so I am aware of this and am working that out.
  2. Does the nipple make the CSS puck longer than the factory one?
  3. The left hand safety is next for me, I like how you did it. I think that I will have to steal your design:-)
  4. That is actually how the Autoplug works. Have you looked at one yet? It's very nice to have.
  5. This looks like he is just tryIng to clear out any debris that gets in the gas chamber after the piston moves past a point. His goal seems to prevent fouling in the fluted section also. If It doesn't take away from gas needed to cycle the gun then it looks like this could be a very good addition to the Autoplug (which I have on my gun). Just another step towards a "self cleaning" gas system. The auto regulating concept sounds verry interesting. I like the way your mind works, it wasn't enough to just get my gun running, I love to try new ideas. Keep us updated...
  6. Thanks, I'll be welding it on so it's good to know that's it's worth it.
  7. I thought about the wing or somthing like it but it would have to stick out too much for my taste in order to be effective. A shroud might work but then I would be covering the sexiness of the Tromix design that I like so much. My project is moving towards a stock-less design anyway so that will put me more behind the gun and the blast won't be as much of a factor.
  8. I'll take the old one if you want to get rid of it. Do you have a picture of it?
  9. Yep. I'll refrain from further comment. Those Lone Star guns are nice looking, even with the huge brake it looks good. The Monster Brake is definitely growing on me. I was actually interested in your further comments, from your experience, since you have the exact setup that I was talking about. If you just want to tell me to suck it up and deal with it, I can handle that. I am actually in the process of bringing the brake much closer to me. The end of the brake will be at just under 11" with the gas system shorted by 3.75". All I have left is to attach the brake and see how much
  10. Thanks everyone! That's a good idea, if I decide to do this again I'll definitely keep that in mind. I have some pretty wild ideas for the next one which may involve a new barrel and one of those self regulating gas blocks on the new S12s (I know of a friend of a friend that makes shotgun barrels). Have to finish this one first though. Good guess on the brake, although you may be surprised as to how I do it:-)
  11. Wait until its done, not sure how it will turn out but at least it runs. That's my baseline, everything else is gravy:-) Also, forgot to say but there won't be any sights. Sounds crazy, I know, but I want the cleanest look that I can get. I don't actually need them, just 5 rounds of 00 buck rapid fire and all 5 were kill shots at around 10 yds. Never used the sights on my Mossberg 500 either. Good enough for now, we'll see what I end up doing.
  12. Here is my very first gun project ever so I didn't want post this until I had it back together and running so here it is. There are still some things that need to be done so it is only mostly complete right now. To start I'll answer some questions that I am sure will come up. Most of my knowledge was gained from reading the forums here and specifically the SBS Technical thread in the NFA section since this will be an 11" SBS when I get my approval. Yes, those are holes in the barrel and no I won't tell what they are for, I don't want to say anything until I have that part compl
  13. "You need to weld an extension hood back out over the top cover or it will eventually pop out of its track in the front. You can get away without it about 50% of the time, but the other 50% of the time the gun will be like a boomerang and come right back to you for rework. About 10% of the guns have bolt/carriers that will ride up so high when the carrier comes out of the gas tube that the bolt is pulled away from the ejector and misses it. So....on those guns, you need a shim under the front of the top cover to keep it down in the pathway of the ejector. There is no way to tell which guns wi
  14. That does sound interesting... I have my eye on the ST9 here http://www.americanspecialtyammo.com/37mm_Launchers.html I would like to mount that on my S12 just for fun.
  15. You need to get a bi-pod for that thing;-) Looks nice though, not many people use the AFG but I like it too. Reminds me of a quote from the Russian in "Snatch": (think Russian accent) "A heavy gun is good, its reliable, and if it doesn't work you can always hit him with it" With the rarer nature of the gun, I would agree that cutting it is probably not something to be done lightly.
  16. I am shortening everything on my gun especially since I also have the Monster brake. You do have about 6" to work with (that's what she said;) so you could cut it to make room for the Monster Brake and still not have NFA issues. Although, from what I have read, the 18" guns need 4 gas holes and the 24" only needs 3 like Shankspony said. I would not let adding a gas hole stop me if I wanted to shorten the barrel but thats me. I am also shortening the gas system and going to about an 11" gun (including the Monster Brake) so I might not be the best person to listen to if you want to keep the
  17. That's what I was thinking, thanks for the confirmation. Not looking forward to the wait but there is a good deal of work to be done and it will be totally complete up to cutting the barrel so at least I can have fun with it in the mean time. What kind of ammo will you be using to make it a DD? I have seen the 12 gauge adapters but not anti personnel/material 26.5mm ammo.
  18. I have been doing a lot of research on having an NFA Trust and I am stuck on one point. I am in the process of building an SBS S12 and I know in order to complete the SBS I need a Form 1, no problem. I also have created a trust for my S12 with Willmaker. My understanding is that to transfer an NFA item to a Trust, I would need to complete a Form 4. So, the question is: Do I need to complete both a Form 1 (to manufacture) and a Form 4 (to transfer to the Trust)? Or can the SBS be built and registered to the Trust with the Form 1 only? I have only seen posts that talk about bu
  19. This stuff might be good for you. Seems to protect the metal without being a dirt magnet. I'll be getting some for myself. Militec-1 (google it) Was going to post a link but I don't think that is allowed for non supporting vendors.
  20. Looks like the end of the gas tube is sealed, is there no regulator? I am curious as to how this works.
  21. PM your address and I'll send you mine. I hate the thing, much prefer the plate.
  22. I'll get that for sure, thanks!
  23. I have the Monster Brake and love the look but there are a couple of issues that are keeping me from loving it and everyone seems to like it. I just want to make sure it is/isn't me before giving up. I was planning on having It permanantly attached with an OA 18" barrel. There is a lot of back blast in my face when firing and that is an annoying distraction when shooting. Is this normal and something that people just deal with? This is my first muzzle brake on any gun and I know that back blast is what reduces recoil through redirection but I always figured that it was back and out
