  1. No offense to anyone in this thread. But it's always kind of funny how much talk there is abiut which items are best for SHTF. The best item you can have for a shtf gunfight is training and experience. Get off the bench. Find someone with property(I'm lucky to have the space) and try tofind out about shooting on thier land. Run your guns hard, wet, dirty sideways and upside down. Don't worry about scratches and little blemishes. Setup man sized cardboard. Or even better steel. Wherever you have a good backstop. And blast the hell away from every position and movement you can think of with your
  2. So your selling a factory saiga gas tube for 25dollars. DO YOU NOT KNOW WHAT THESE ARE WORTH, OR ARE YOU JUST TRYING TO RIP THIS DUDE OFF?? seems fishy as dude needs a dime a fuckin dozen factory gas tube Agreed. That's kind of an a hole price. I'll also do ten bucks shippe if boomstick for some reason can't.
  3. Those are often tough to come by, true. The upside is that almost no one will ever need a spare bolt or carrier for any Saiga weapon, (rifle or shotgun). Still, those who plan ahead might buy a few "spare" sporter rifles and shotguns, if only for the critical internal parts. Certain AR parts have a very definite, imo low rnd-count "expiration date". Modern Kalashnikov pattern firearms, (all Saigas fall into this category), with only the most basic maintenence, are dependable for a couple generations. I think you bolded no one when you should have bolded ALMOST. That's the why we
  4. Move to Africa. I'm sure you'll find plenty of examples This is exactly what I mentioned before. This one Tract mind thinking that the AK is completely unstoppable is just fucking stupid. they are both machines. Both capable of failure and both have failed at desperate times in combat. Guess what, plenty of soldiers have also broken ka-bars and torn boots in desperate times. It's kind of understood that soldiers are hard on shit. Now my personal belief is both rifles are worthless in the hands of an untrained individual. And the only people that really argue that one system is that m
  5. I never once said an AR is more durable or reliable than AK. Because I don't believe it to be. BUT the internet BS about ARs is just hilarious to me, how little "gun guys" even know about firearms. They go out and just buy any AR, throw a bunch of UTG foreends and grips on it, run it bone dry, then themselves and everyone at the range with them spouts off how "ARs don't run steel case ammo" each platform has certain quirks. ARs like To be run wet, certain guns will like certain weight buffers, there are a bunch of non mil spec parts out there, yada yada yada AK's are insanely over g
  6. True statement. True statement. A quality bolt carrier and bolt mean everything. BCM, DD , PSA, and many others MPI test every single bolt and carrier they make and are bet your life dependable parts. It has been decided that quality of lower does not matter(someone has even made a lower out of wood and rifle functioned fine) as long as a quality lower parts(buffer, tube, and spring and trigger group) are used in conjunction with a quality bolt and carrier(see brands listed above) Another reason why I have some serious love for my AR is I have stacks of parts and can completely rebuild it
  7. It was my understanding that some, maybe most, AR's simply won't digest steel case ammo. I know quite a few have warranties that become void if you use this bastard, primitive ammo. How they could prove that is beyond me. If your AR won't run steel case it's not becuase the case is steel it's becuase the ammo is normally underpowered and will lead to short stroking and weak extraction on guns that ALREADY have problems.(loose improperly staked gas key, worn gas rings, worn extractor springs, improper weight buffer, etc) now if you have a quality AR with mil spec bolt and extractor a
  8. The saiga is the Sporter configuration of the Russian ak47. The pistol grip is not installed(although) there is commonly the hole cut for the nut) and a linkage is added to the trigger group to make reaching the trigger from a monte Carlo stock possible. The bullet guide is not installed in the front trunnion(which it is on actual non importable AK's)and the magazine catch tab is slightly longer to make AK designed magazines not install in the rifle. All these things are neccesarry beside of American firearm import laws of non sporting firearms Arsenal is a company based out of las Vega
  9. For this particular forum thread that you've started, I say we don't. I for one feel hutchsaiga was spot-on. The theme of this topic has been utterly . Well, Gary, before posting my observation, I did several forum searches. And, even with just "AR15" as the search criteria, I went through four full pages of threads and found exactly zero comments similar to mine. So, if this has been beaten to death, my apologies. You'd never know it to search the forum. Oh and, I also searched to see if anyone cares what you say and, same result. Zero. Whoa whoa whoa take it easy and do
  10. The ar piston gun topic doesn't come up very often. Becuase no company. And I mean NO company has solved the carrier tilt problem on a standard ar platform. Now RRA just came out with a totally resigned rifle that solves the problem but without a buffer extension it can't really even be considered and ar anymore. and there is no need for a piston ar in the first place. Keep a quality DI AR lubed and it will run forever. There's actually a guy over in zombiesquad who put somewhere in the area of 5000 rounds through his F/A SBR without cleaning with no failures and more than half was fired supp
  11. Please god not this again. And by the way. I'm a huge ak fan. But you failed to mention the big benefits of the ar platform. Weight, and sights But please not this same damn argument again
  12. Although I have access to a dremel. I decided to use a hand file on mine. To get it tight. Which was kind of a worthless becuase I filed to fit a tapco I had and now my 35+ comblock steel Mags all wobble front to back a tiny bit. But I've got 3000rnds plus through the rifle with never a single problem.
  13. Non converted saiga is apprx equal to sks in my opinion. Positives with sks is you don't have to buy magazines and it is still a very reliable platform. Positives with saiga are brand new chrome lined barrel. Now of you restore a saiga there is absolutely no competition. Why don't you want to convert the rifle? Sporter configuration is not the way the rifles were intended and everyone left that way is abomination. Buy a saiga, convert it(not stupid tapco t6). And you have a better rifle than most
  14. A weak spring would cause the mag to fail to feed when only a few rounds are loaded. And would not effect function on the first half or so of a fully loaded mag. Becuse the spring pressure is increased with each round loaded. I doubt the mag is your problem. Try another one. Post some pics of your bullet guide. And also, a weak spring would make mags easier to load to 30rnds. Not harder. I have a few old old steel Chinese mags with worn out springs. And this is the way they behave. By the way. Anyone know we're to get 30rnd ak mag spring?
  15. I figure at $12 per mag....the likelyhood of needing to sell them is slim. If I am at a point of needing to sell my $12 mags....I have far more issues! BTW, I only have steel surplus ak mags....no tankers, bulgy's, or any other rare types! And certainly none of those fancy "wood looking" polys that some of you posters have! LOL The mags may seem almost monetarily valueless right now. But if another AWB is instated. They will be worth far more than $12
  16. Well said. It's been said a million times on this forum. But it's still good to hear people that appreciate the real rifle underneath . And FYI to new folks. The saiga rifle wasnt designed. It was slapped together on an existing platform to meet shitty import requirements. It is 100% not the way the rifle was intended. Edit to add- all ak rifles have bullet guides too, they are not built into the front trunnion, This is not saiga specific. All others are just done at the factory instead of in your garage like a saiga:)
  17. Any idea how the pk-as and other etched ines function? They can't be parallax free right?
  18. Goddamn that sounds scary as all hell. I'm am lucky to have mass amounts of private land around and I can I chose who I shoot with wisely. And believe me I do. The last way I want to die is from a a bullet I didn't deserve, from the gun of some careless asshat. I have never stepped within a mile of a public range but have shot with some careless people. And never will again. I mean NEVER.
  19. The Bali is not my style of blade. But you gutta appreciate amazing craftsmanship. Amazing work. That blackstar on the other hand. Thats right up my alley
  20. Always good too see new things being imported or manufactured here. But this one, unless through some devine power god, will not find its way into my house. For 1k it would, 2k is enough to put together an SBR AR and get 4k rounds of 556.
  21. X an y stamps are to strengthen the reciever at the axis pins. They prevent wallowing out of the holes through continuous hammer and trigger rotation. The reciever is heat treated at those points but the stamps provide even more rigigity to the holes. Side note, I've never typed the word rigigity before, and it looks strange. Which probably means it is spelled incorrectly. You meant rigidity. Exactly
  22. Does the PK-23 refer to the sight and the -01 refer to the side mount? ... I don't think so. Maybe at some point PK-23s became PK-23-01s? Absolutely. It's a mil-spec optic. I briefly had a TRS-25 for my S-12 and it seemed alright, but obviously of fairly cheap Chinese construction. I replaced it with an Aimpoint R-1. True statement. The trs is a great high value plinking optic. Far better than those utg and true dot 5moa junk. But still just a plinking optic. That pk23 is a wonderful rugged optic, but I believe they are harder to find than they used t
  23. YMMV but gun shows in my area are certainly not places to find good deals(although everyone selling will make it seem like the deal of a century) Your best bet. Would be find a local gun store/FFL tell them you want to order a new one for 329 from classic arms. Order it, have them send their FFL. Pay transfer fee, pick up. Then you have a brand new rifle for probably still under 350. I saw some used ones at my gunshow for $450. (not converted) The way I work gunshows. Is bring a few hundred bucks but don't expect to leave with anything, if an actual deal pops up, snatch it. If not
