  1. Not too long ago most would think it's crazy to even be thinking about this shit. Now it's crazy to not think about it (and prepare). We try to gather things we use anyway and take measures to preserve it. In re: the OP on ammo - I did not mean to suggest it isn't needed. It's just a struggle to determine the right balance. Just finished re-reading George Orwell's 1984. It is a superb piece of literature.
  2. In my neck of the woods it seems everyone has plenty of firearms and ammo. Having extra is no bad thing. I like to go to the range - it's a hobby. And buying in bulk is definately cheaper. When I go to the range now I make sure I have plenty of time. When the Range Master says "shooters, the line is going cold, do not reload, fire what you have, and make your firearm safe...and step behind the line...". That used to mean to me - ok blast out what I have in the magazine rapidly. Now I remove the mag and fire the last shot. I am more cognizant of saving what I've got and spend more time look
  3. Something I want to share. We do store food and had an episode with weavils recently and we had to throw a bunch of stuff away. FREEZE things hard to kill the weavils; then vacuum seal. I'm thinking about investing in more ammo; but how much is enough? From .22 rimfire to 30-06 I have about 15k rounds.
  4. That point is well taken. Ammo is a potential store of wealth. But how much is enough becomes the question. Food, water, silver coins, etc., have to balance I suppose.
  5. I'm starting to agree with the OP. For me to run out of ammo would be to assume I have prevailed in hundreds of major fire-fights. If I were fighting against "zombies" that walk around with their arms straight out, but never figure out how to pick up and fire weapons...well...there would be mountains of them stacked up around my property.
  6. I've got one of those Yugo under-folders and like it so much I might put one on a 5.56 I've got. I'm scared of wrecking it somehow.
  7. I've got a Yugo underfolder that I am very fond of and would like to do this on a .223. Would I be wrong to think I could do this by cutting off the tang and then (very carefully) drilling the required holes without stripping it down like this? Second, is there a Saiga 12 vendor that sells the kit? Nice job undertoad.
  8. Kind of off-topic but I was listening to the stupid tv in the background this morning. The local "news" channel did a story on what they described as an epidemic. Kids getting injured playing *video games*. What are they gonna do? Make them wear seat-belts and helmets? LOL. How the hell does one get hurt playing a video game? WTF? When's the last time anyone has seen a tree-fort? That's what we all did as kids; but that was quite a long time ago.

  10. FWIW...my better-half works in a cardiac unit and many of her patients are seasoned citizens. An increasingly common refrain is that this country is fucked and the government is out of control unlike anything they've ever seen. I live in a small town and no matter where I go or who I speak to; I find many folks expressing a deep sense of unease that is palpable. No one believes anything coming from the "main-stream" media or the government. Here is a handy map (ok...it's kind of silly...but mildly amusing for a few minutes) of "zombie" activity in your area...LOL. "Map of the Dead
  11. 32948 here. 20 minutes from http://www.goshootingirc.com/ $9.25 for the day. Too busy on weekends. Nice range.
  12. Too funny. Lately I've noticed on popular finance/investment/business/political sites, many engage in lively debates related to....guns.
  13. The Indian River County Range (FL) is great. There are rules enforced, but not onerous rules. Making sure you don't point a weapon at anyone at the range isn't much of a hardship. Pretty sure they wouldn't give many warnings before immediately revoking your range pass if anybody did that there. Staff very courteous. $9.25 and you can stay all day and move from handgun range, rifle range, archery etc.
  14. http://fleming-hayes...un-insurance-2/ The author puts his own political spin on this. No law against that (I think). Regardless of party spot or stripe; I don't really care for any of them. If you watch what they do, as opposed to what they say, there really isn't much difference.
  15. Hammer spring causes this sometimes; especially near BHO.
  16. That is if you believe the narrative. I wonder if the individual who took the video is still alive.
  17. Presented with little commentary. lol http://www.zerohedge...ker-us-out-guns
  18. Here is an observation I have made with respect to Circle 10 mags perhaps worthy of note. I think I have 6 of them, all brand new in package from same vendor. 5 of the mag catches were exactly identical with one having a different factory bevel, and those 5 required only minor dremel work on the front of the mags. I find it best to field strip and try to insert in a well lit area and locate the areas that are preventing insertion. An angled dental pick is helpful. On magazine number 6 (the one with the different bevel on the mag catch) no amount of grinding on the front would have allowed
  19. I placed an order there Wed. afternoon. Exactly what I ordered at a very good price. It's sitting on my counter right now. MAA, CSS, Dinzag, and a few other vendors have never let me down. A few of them have bent over backwards to accommodate me.
  20. (chunga continues conversation with self) Range report Two: I tossed a potpourri of ammo at this thing. HP, SP, FMJ, all different brands and everything spit out no trouble at all. I tested the one mag I was having trouble with - with FMJ only and it worked fine. I still like this AKMS. Over 200 rds and not one peep of trouble. One Range Master joked that he hated AKs. I asked why and he said "back in the 'nam I had them firing at me. I'll never forget that sound". He did say he picked plenty of them up when his own weapon malfunctioned and they always went "BANG". Another Range Ma
  21. Range report: four different types of ammo @ 100 yards through 3 different mags. Out of a couple hundred shots (resting on a bag) 90 percent hit inside a pie-plate. Ok, that isn't going to get me in the Hall of Fame but that is acceptable to me for now. It was quite breezy. No failures of any type except with one mag filled with Tulammo 124 gr. jhp. Intermittent dead stop - slammed head on into trunnion. I marked the mag and put it back in the bag. While watching Nascar pretend the sun was about to came out "any time now" in Daytona I removed the bolt assembly and inserted the offending ma
  22. LOL http://www.zerohedge.com/news/infographic-greatest-gun-salesman-america-president-obama Funny bumper-stickers at gun shops. "Four more years and I can retire"
  23. You're right. With the mag in place the bolt stays open after the last round. Once you remove the mag it slams home. At the range they want mags out while the line is cold; so I insert an empty cartridge in lieu of the BHO. Not really a big deal but I like the option of holding it open with no mag. Speaking of which - this is my first experience with all steel mags. While loading I notice the upper edges are sharp. Sharp enough to draw a little blood if you're not careful. This is my first 7.62 so I have to order a few more. Hopefully I can find Circle 10s. I love them in my .223s.
  24. I just got one of these and I'm impressed. Some of the reviews on the Century builds were really mixed. Seems like a love - hate deal. I spent a little more at a local dealer so I could take it apart and have a good like at it before buying. Brought it over to the range today for the first time. I started at 25 yards just to see how close it was. Very consistently low and right. I fiddled with the front sight adjustment a bit and easily got 'em all in the 2"x2" diamonds on my targets. Ran out of time but next week I'll do 50 and 100 yards. Yes. Easy at 25 yards but very consistent. No
