  1. Thanks Ironhead! I was a bit worried as to how centered the rear sight was, just didn't look quite level. Turns out it was dead nuts on. Took it to the range today, the new FBMG mags functioned fine, as did the G3 and Kobra sight. For those who are worried about the top cover moving around, here is the last target with the Kobra sight on. 50 yds, SA surplus ammo, 4-shots fairly rapid, maybe 2 seconds between shots. Recoil is almost as mild as my G3, so the brake is working fine with the 308. The other two holes to the right were sighting in prior...
  2. BBQ paint or semi-gloss black. I deburred and rounded all the edges, then used a triangle file to put 3 slots across the back to help grip it to slide off. Scuff and spray. BBQ matches the mag body almost perfect.
  3. Well, here she is. Now to get to the range, once it stops raining.. Upper rail is screwed to an extra piece of metal, which extends to cover the sight opening, and helps lock the top cover in place. All in all it is pretty stable. We'll see how it does at the range.
  4. OK, just checking. You never know on the web who knows what. And the standard 308 dis. spring won't fit in the aftermarket FCG, and I have seen people leave it out, not knowing any better.
  5. No, disconnector is in there and hammer spring is correctly placed. But is the little spring under the disconnector?
  6. I use a Rockmount Harris knockoff on my 22". Rather than mess with the swivel, I just opened up the square window in the bipod, to allow the ears to open wide enough to go over the Saiga swivel. Locks down solid.
  7. Only drawback to Alumahyde is you have to let it dry for a week. It worked real well on my G3 build. If you plan to do the entire gun, it would do well. For the Saiga I did, I just found some engine paint that was close, semi gloss or matte black. Matches close enough to the naked eye.
  8. I prefer to at least pull a snake thru mine after I shoot them, and lube the actions, but my usual range trip is 200 rds. or so anyhow. The AK's are more like a clean every 500-1000 rds. My pistols I break down no less than every other time, and 22's as a rule get pretty grungy.
  9. The suckups keep on sucking. And the whiner keeps whining... time to move on to something else already!! jeeeeeez!
  10. Well, actually. not to pick or anything.. If he dropped off a pickup truck load on Saturday, there is very good odds that they didn't all get postmarked till Mon, or even Tues. Especially with the holiday rush.
  11. I would, if someone would make a lower handguard PSL type that bolts on. Carving my own was a pain, and the biggest gripe I have with the Saiga is the funky trigger. ***edit**** oh, snap. Just reviewed the Saiga 100... not what I was thinking of.. NVM!
  12. FXDS, nice. I have a 70 Z28 for this years project.. too much fun and I don't do it for a living anymore, tired of the "customers". DG, glad you got your stuff, hope you and yours can have a Merry Xmas now!
  13. One added benefit of the Saiga, if you plan to hunt, is the easy scope mounting. Apples and oranges actually. The Garand is a rifle with battle history, the Saiga is a shooter. Get both. I did. And add a M14 while you are at it, what the heck!
  14. Here is the "teaser" photoshop pic of the next project... already have the ACE stock, SAMCO grip on it, and the G2 FCG installed. Also have the FSB removed, and the AK74 style brake welded on. Now for the goodies, which my better half was kind enough to lay out and snap a couple pics of.. G3 sights and FBMG mags... I also have a plan to install a Weaver rail on the top cover for a Kobra, IF I can get it stable enough... More when it is all done.
  15. Y'all are welcome!! Bahh humbug!! Did I mention I got my two mags from FBMG? LOL!!!!!
  16. Wife told me my two have arrived, next week when I get home I'll have a chance to try them out.
  17. Fortunately, some businesses still put their employees first, as opposed to the all mighty dollar. Me? I am stuck offshore until next year, dealing with a hundred men who act like 10 year olds. And laughing at how people put their lives out on the internet, as opposed to living them.
  18. Both of those will work. You'll have to cut off the lower tang for the original Saiga stock, since the AK style only use the top.
  19. Not sucking up to anyone. Welcome to the real world, where more than a few companies shut down for the last two weeks of Dec, so their employees can spend time with their families, instead of dealing with all the pain that comes with customer service. Ever worked customer service? Try it sometime, and you might have a different point of view.
  20. Or it may be they don't have an ETA yet, and don't feel like responding to three emails in a week to tell you that. Customer service varies quite a bit from shop to shop, but the gun industry as a whole seems to have a more delays than others. And this time of year a lot of the small shops close down for two weeks and let their people have time off. Are you working thru Xmas? Lastly, try picking up the phone, because the Saigaforums are not Aim Inc customer service sight... FYI!
  21. Myself I have the VEPR. His question was on the retainer plates, like RSA sells, which require you to first have the trigger and hammer in, then the plate, then the safety. Problem comes in with the RSA being taller and bulkier than the normal or G2, and you can't rotate the safety down past it.
  22. Glad to hear you finally got yours, and they were worth the wait. Everyone seems to be happy with them, time will tell how they hold up and perform after a few hundred rounds.
  23. First off, is that screen name a Clancy reference or your real one? If not real, cool choice You can sometimes install the safety by rotating it backwards and all the way around. I just used the stock Saiga retaining spring on mine.
  24. I have gone thru most all the posts on this; nowhere do I see FMBG offering anyone special "perks" for being the early bird, of making promises based on who ordered when. I do see them apologizing for misplacing peoples orders, and then getting blasted for their lack of diligence and failure to offer yet more "perks". I also see some acting like their $100-200 early order funded the whole deal. But then I see where the owner of FMBG had to put his house in hock, to satisfy our "need" for 20 rd mags for our guns. Dunno, I didn't have the funds to get in the early pre-order, so I had
