  1. As you noted yours is not converted. It still has the teeter totter trigger and the stock is probably a Tapco unit. For just a little bit of effort you can make the trigger work much better and also get a better stock configuration on the gun. Carolina Shooters Supply has some great videos on their site and they are also a great source for any parts you may need.
  2. Sounds like you tried to thread it without the "guide" that goes in the bore to keep the die straight? I recently tapped two of my own without any problems but when I tried to help another fellow thread one, his barrel was enough oversize on the OD of the barrel that though the die started it was stripping the threads as it tried to keep going. I stopped before I did too much permanent damage, so that the owner could have the OD cut down to size and there would be enough threads to hide the fubar on the end.
  3. He's been lame for the first six years. Why would you expect him to behave any better in the next two years. I am a bit of a left handed thinker but I'm hoping those that voted him in are seeing his true colors and if they are not I'm hoping those that were too lazy to vote in the last two elections are motivated to get off their ass and vote this time.
  4. A better question is why wouldn't an armed criminal that was hiding in the bushes waiting to ambush responders deserve to be shot as many times as needed to neutralize the threat he posed?? The armed criminal had already indicated a willingness to make poor choices and harm others, why shouldn't he deserve to be shot??
  5. You need to make sure of what your barrel outside diameter is since you are having trouble getting the die to start. According to the info on the CSS site, their die will thread barrels with a diameter of .551 to .571. After threading two of my Saigas recently I was attempting to help a friend thread his the diameter of his barrel was large enough that even in a vise it was difficult to start even after spreading the die. In the end we needed to to abandon the effort because the die was actually stripping the threads off the end of the barrel. If your barrel ends up being too large to star
  6. My Saiga S 12 was acting very similar. Mine is also a four port gun and even though the gas block didn't appear to be shrouding the ports, when I sent the gun to Jack Travers at JT Engineering he identified that the gas block hole wasn't sized correctly. He corrected the gas block hole issue and aligned the gas system. He also profiled the hammer and machined the bolt so that a full magazine can be loaded on a closed bolt. When the gun got home it cycles everything including 1200 FPS low base trap loads.
  7. Well it would take to long to drag them out and post pictures so I will just post the list from the last 90 days. 8. Wish they had announced these new forearms a month ago before I finally gave up and settled for Tapco forearms on my Saiga conversions. I like the magpul moe forearms on my ARs and would have been glad to buy a couple for my AKs.
  9. The problem with the Sig Brace from the start is that no one could leave well enough alone and just make use of the device. So many people insisted on asking the ATF repeatedly for "clarification" (mommy mommy can I do this) that eventually ATF had to respond in the way anyone with a brain expected they would. While the brace could be shouldered, ATF was initially content to state that since the device wasn't presented as being intended to be used that way they were willing to allow the device as a forearm support. From the first time I laid eyes on a Sig P 556 the "emergency rear sight" built
  10. Interesting. I have shot a fair amount of Red Army Standard ammo through both of my Saigas without any problems. Must have gotten the good lots when I bought mine....
  11. I too have the guide rod and it works very well. As to installation, I took the easy route. Jack installed it for me while my gun was at his shop for his reliability "massage" work and rock n lock install. Very pleased with the results. Gun runs flawlessly.
  12. Decent price, too bad I already have 26 spare mags for my SCAR 17. Good luck with your sale.
  13. I'm not disagreeing, and I have no experience in metals, machining, or gun-smithing, but this almost seems TOO easy. Not discounting the skills they possess, most gunsmiths don't want folks to realize that most of what they do is common sense and mechanical logic. The skill part is displayed in their use of tools to achieve the finished result. As a mechanically savvy guy I can do all but the most technical work myself. I'm not disagreeing, and I have no experience in metals, machining, or gun-smithing, but this almost seems TOO easy. This only works if you KNOW (as in having
  14. I'm working on my second build right now and have parts in the safe for a third. I have several other AR platform rifles and the caliber thing continues to swirl through my brain. I was leaning toward 300 BO but I already have two "oddballs". One is a Rockriver mid length carbine in 6.8 spc, the other is an Armalite AR 10 T match rifle in .243. While both are great calibers, if prices spike again on the horizon I will be tempted to off them in favor or the .556 variations that will be easier to find ammo for in a SHTF situation. I would not opt for an AR in one of the AK chamberings as I prefe
