  1. But its soooo long. I really wanted something shorter. How accurate for hunting would a 12 - 16" barrel be? remember, I'll have the .308 for bigger and farther out game. Its not accuracy thats an issue, its the shot pattern. If you're going to do some bird hunting, you're not going to want to go shorter than 19. I use my 19" w/ a polychoke for hunting, but it does not work as well as my 870 with a 26" barrel mod choke.
  2. If you're not good enough to hit a deer in the head within shotgun ranges (under 100 yards) you probably shouldn't be hunting at all until you can. IMHO
  3. Try it, and then get back to me. You will not be blind outside of the cone of light. And once you do have the light on, and others can see you, why would you start turning it on and off?? Once again, give it try first. If you are using you irons properly in the dark there is no squinting. You shoot with both eyes open and with proper cheek weld. Inside of 50 feet, with proper cheek weld there is no need to use the rear, its all automatic. There is a reason why the military, LE, and any other serious training institution trains the way they do. Also, keep in mind that even with
  4. This is just my opinion, but I really think that all a laser will do is slow you down. Learn to use your irons, and practice a whole heck of a lot. You should be able to hit the dead center of a man sized target under 50' even at night. Before grabbing a laser I would make sure that I had a quality weaponlight and practice with it as well. A weaponlight, even a poweful one mounted to your weapon will not ruin your night vision. The only good reason I have ever heard for having a laser on a weapon would be to show other people where your gun is pointing in various LE scenarios.
  5. Just some other views, since I already have pics available. If you've got a tromix, its probably not the problem, but what the heck.
  6. Thats funny, I always thought the second amendment was self protecting. Designed specifically to keep itself and all the other parts of the constitution intact.
  7. The main thing is only a few people have a saiga shotgun that have a standard Ak rsb and removable gas tube. Dinzag or Cobra may have a fix for you. I converted my 410 to a AK rsb and removable gas tube setup as well but my retainers hold tight. BTW those handguards look awesome. Thanks. Yah, I think I'll just put up a post in the Main S12 area and see if I can get some answers. I'll wait until I get my MD20 and take some pics, perhaps drool will loosten up some tongues.
  8. I hear ya brother! Same thing happened to me. He wrote and said UPS didn't recognize my address for some reason, even though they come here all the time... I didn't get any tracking number either, but got a call yesterday from them. Well I saw the Big Brown Santa coming up the road and was waiting at the end of my driveway by the time he stopped there! Wooo Hooooo!! Now I should be able to unleash 40 rds of 12 ga in less than 15 seconds! Thanks Mike! Yah, I get ups in here all the time, but every so often they say my address isn't real. Got my tracking # today, sho
  9. Thanks for the compliments guys, its a work in progress and I have the whole forum to blame for all the cool ideas and info. Didn't meant to hijack this thread.
  10. Man, I hope mine ships. EV-739. Got an e-mail from Mike last night saying that UPS didn't think my address existed. Oh the curses of living in the country between roads lol.
  11. I used a romanian trigger guard on mine - but didn't want to mess with the mag release so I cut it off at an angle - in the same way Cobra did his. Works great, it just takes a bit of doing to crush the rivets with the Saiga's massive center support being in the way.
  12. Can you take pics before it is repaired? I'm curious as to what the damage looks like.
  13. As long as you've got it in hand might as well try it out. Add a little duct tape and see how it goes.
  14. Lol. 32 views and no replies. Probably shoulda stuck this in the S12 forum, or dinzags business section.
  15. As you can see, there is a slight gap at the front of my upper handguard. I'm trying to think up some way to secure the guard so that it doesn't come loose under recoil - right now everything is pretty secure until I blast away with buck shot. Then the front upper handguard retainer is forced forward and everything obviously gets a bit loose. Any have close up pics of the forward handguard assemblies they have set up - most don't come in close enough for me to see how my fit compares. I've been thinking about putting an O ring around the front of the gas tube, or adding some kind of stop b
  16. Yup - the front and rear sights, gas tube, and handguard retainers all came from Dinzag. He did a great job and I'm definitely satisfied. There are still some things I need to figure out what to do with concerning the upper handguards but that's no fault of Dinzag - my saiga is just slightly out of spec. The wood is from Matt at ironwood designs - call him and check and see if he's still working on wood pre-fit to the Saiga 12. Mine was the first and it still needed a bit of hogging out but he may have refined it a bit more since.
  17. Cheap krylon is a very good choice for a shotgun - and its not bad for a rifle either. I can't see you ever getting a shotgun barrel hot enough to burn the paint - and as was already stated, its easily repaired.
  18. I doubt you'd get much business - and you'd make the local kids angry. Out around here (orchards & farmland) the dirty work is done by the kids - who usually get paid minum wage with supplied ammo. I don't know of many farmers that would take an adult seriously. Would be fun though.
  19. I only watched the first video - but that was enough. This guy has some issues that he has never been taught to deal with (not that most people are). But he seems to be coming from the sheep mindset of most people that being forced to kill to protect yourself or your family will destroy you mentally and emotionally. That is no something I believe - I hope I never have to find out but I am mentally prepared. He should probably check out some of Dave Grossman's writings. Or at the very least - this one here: On Killing
  20. Yep, forgot to mention. I got the retainers and front and rear sights from Dinzag. I didn't have the parts and only have access to a cheapo mig welder - so this was definately the way to go. Dinzag did a great job. The front handguards are also not quite to my liking yet - the upper one is giveing me a little trouble as far as securing it goes. I'll post some pics and a more detailed explanation later to see if anyone can give me some tips. Wish they made some, it would be quite a nice touch to this gun. I'd also like to get a ribbed dustcover to fit on it - it makes the gun loo
  21. After 6+ long months of waiting for parts, slacking off, and generally working slowly my S12 is just about finished. Here's a few pics highlighting some of the major steps: Just after I finished the AK trigger guard - and added some ugly Romy wood to see how it felt- Me trying to figure what pins were real so I could remove the gas block..... Glad I had this forum to help me out. Thanks guys Bling Magazine pics (shiny pictures defeat me, glare always wins): Still working on the furniture fitting. This is a custom set from Ironwood - they tried to hog things out f
  22. Don't have any picks of a stock G2 hammer atm - but here a some pics of G2 next to the stock hammer that I have modified. If you just grind the G2 down to match the stock one it should work.
  23. Pa. shooter, I'm also new here, and have no stake in any of this. However, I've done my homework as Will suggested that you should. Go and do a little looking through the past threads and you'll see that the main problem is not that the the WM drum has some serious design flaws, but that the owners business practices left quite a bit to be desired. I don't really know why I'm saying anything at all, except that I'm quite sure everyone else here is sick of dealing with the issue. Go check the facts, see how people were treated, and pay close attention to the way Alliance handled the whole s
  24. Well, I just recieved my modified gas tube and other assorted parts from Dinzag yesterday and am now looking for a good set of wood handguards. I talked with Matt at Ironwood about a month ago about making me a custom set that would actually fit around the barrel without making the guards razor thin. He seemed to think that it could get done for me - but I would have to fashion a completely new lower handguard retainer as a standard AK one would be too small. And since I'm incredibly busy it all fell on the back burner until my parts arrived. Any opinions on which route I should take? Are
