Whew, got mine on too! Pretty easy once I got the trick down. At first I t hought "oh no, they don't snap on one side!" but eventually got the first one on.

Never had an issue either but I replaced my gas piston with a Tromix one anyhow (it was just one more thing I could swap out!) and put on about an 8 microinch finish to help prevent crap from sticking to it in the future. My old one would get caked to the point of not being able to solvent the crap off but it still ran fine.

Now here's a dumb question on my part I took off the end plug to replace the piston with a US-made Tromix one not too long ago. I haven't shot it since so I want to be certain of the settings before I fire off some shells. How many turns does it take to get the plug back to factory location? If I screw it all the way back on tight, I max the threads between "1" and "2". I then have to back off counterclockwise and "2" will be the first setting it engages in. If I change it to "1", I have to get to it by turning counterclockwise. I can't turn it clockwise or the thread will bottom o

I've got mine folding to the right too to avoid smacking the siderail mount on the left side. Now that I have a halo system, I suppose I can ditch the siderail mount for the kobra and mount it on the rails. Firing it with the stock folded would be fun but I noticed the same issue as well. I can adjust it lower so it clears, but then it looks really funny when the stock is extended and looks that low.

Dust cover is tricky to get seated in as well on mine. You can get it...eventually. What used to take 5 seconds takes a minute or two now. I guess there isn't much one can do but mill or grind away here and there to improve the small functional and aesthetic bugs that creep up from continued usage.

I've used Remington Sluggers, the Wolf slugs, Federal (with the hydrashok profile), Winchester Super X? (I think it was). All rifled-type 1oz slugs. Never had a problem with any of them. I'm waiting for someone to stock them in large quantities for dirt cheap...I usually only buy a few 5-round boxes now and then and that's a spendy way to go. Any sources?

I figured I'd reply to this thread a tad late since I just got mine installed. I ordered mine in anodized. The fit is great and very snug, and the finish is utilitarian. The parts are as-cast and there is no apparent machining work done on it. Most of the casting has fine pebbled texture. There are some rougher spots with end mill texture and several areas of casting flash (mainly on the side rails). Calipers show some slight variation in rail size (~10 thou) but its no biggie as most medium-to-high dollar rail-type accessories can be adjusted for individual rail fit. These don't

I'd go with AISI 4140 with a tough finish coating. Stainless isn't really a requirement for this type of firearm and would only drive up cost and not bring a real performance or maintenance benefit. I like the fact my Saiga only needs a dab of instant gun blue to darken a ding that makes it through the finish. What type of stainless is usually used for firearms anyhow? I see a host of stuff like 15-5/17-4, 300/400 series, etc. at work but we don't do anything firearms related and I never looked at a stainless firearm over a carbon steel one. I am pretty syre Tromix has the US gas pistons made. I was browsing through his threads and site and wanted to add more goodies to my pre-order on the muzzle brake to and he said the gas pistons are $25 a pop. I've been busy lately so I haven't been able to do the preorder and buy that gas piston. I'm gonna do it right now!

I haven't seen petroleum-derrived thermoplastics or thermosetting polymers skyrocketing in cost...certainly not to the extent of steel and nonferrous metals. Certain types have always been dirt cheap to obtain (ie polyethylene, polystyrene, PVC, ABS, etc family) while some have always been stupidly epensive (teflon, torlon, G-class phenolics, etc). I just checked some material I've sourced in the past and prices haven't really changed much from since I last purchased them (two years ago)...so a doubling in price over a year (or however old this project is) can't be pinned on -just- that.

Hah, I'm used to the sproing. I replaced mine with a complete Vltor buttstock unit and it isn't as obnoxious, but it's still there. AR15s are a -really- bad habit since they're like legos and you can end up quickly with a big box full of parts and uppers for different purposes. I think I'm in over $3k on mine and that's with no additional uppers. "the itch" has gone away and hopefully it won't come back for a long time!

I caught the Halo forearm rail system this morning browsing the threads. How far away are they from production? $240-270 is pretty steep but they can honestly charge whatever the market will bear. I guess I shouldn't complain because some rail systems on ARs cost that much or more, and I shelled out for one of those.

I just looked at mine and it appears proper. If yours is angled, I would suppose that some filing and checking with a good square is the only thing you can do to correct the receiver end. However, have you checked to see each component is seated square and appears proper, or is the actual end of the receiver out-of-square?

Maybe a big order got cancelled or the material lot was overestimated and there was enough for more. It was down to 42 last night after I purchased three units. Can't wait for an update!

Woohoo, pictures! *sold* You now have three less available for others to purchase I've been waiting since the damned AWB sunset and I eventually lost interest in the S-12 due to a lack of filling in promises of big magazine vaporware. I'm glad I checked back when I did though to see a few S-12 products that I just must have...the magazines being #1 on my list. Could I inquire as to the nature of the snag? The magazine looks damn fine cosmetically and it's picked up a healthy evil black tan since I last saw the ghostly pale prototype!

I used the Ace skeleton folder with the adaptor requiring one cuts off the receiver tang. Otherwise the folding mechanism adds about half an inch. I love it to death. Along with the buffer recoil pad, it makes shooting slugs very enjoyable. Here is mine. With the smaller recoil pad they offer and the middle sized folding buttstock, it fits me just right. The only issue I have is that it folds to the right, which blocks the charging handle if I have the add-on cheekweld on there. Without it, it just -barely- clears it so I have not, and assume I cannot fire it with the stock folded

How's the recoil reduction with the pneumatic recoil buffer compared to a comparible rifle without the pneumatic recoil buffer? I've seen those units around but not much word on them.

They are selling like hotcakes here. Local gun store ordered up 16 units a couple weeks ago and have sold 15 of them. Last one is hanging on the wall right now but $2000 is pretty doggone steep, especially since I can't find any reviews on the thing-- online, magazine, forum, word-of-mouth, or otherwise!

Galil conversion has been done. It's floating somewhere around here. Also I recall seeing mention that a front 3- rail system is coming out for the Saiga 12? I've been busy lately so I haven't had time to catch up with all the posts and take all the new info to memory.

5'8" 175 I can shoot the Saiga 12 no problem. Of course it kicks more than an AK but I would say it's managable. Mine has the Ace skeletonized with a 1/2" recoil pad and the buffertech recoil buffer. It's also converted to evil assault style with a vertical grip so maybe the handling characteristics are a bit different with that forward leverage. I didn't have issues doing doubletaps on it. It sure as hell is MUCH easier on my shoulder than my friend's 870 Police Magnum 20"...that thing hurt with the stock walnut furniture and recoil pad. Now it has the PG and synthetic foldi
