  1. Hi all I figured it's time to post a pic or two of me. I don't have very many, but here's some. Except for the eye picture, they're a bit older. The first is an old pic of me with an air powered arrow rifle. It shoots 16" arrows around 500 FPS. That grouping was from 75 yards. I belong to a medeival recreation group where we put on armor and hit each other (full contact) with sticks. This is what happens when a couple stay pellets hit you in the eye from a ricochet. I was extremely lucky that they had most of their power depleted by this point, or I would have lost my eye
  2. Those are the 2 types of ammo I used today. I first tried the factory 5 rounder with the Federal lights. I tried setting 1 first. All cycled and ejected except the last round, which failed to eject. That last one was from the hip with no solid foundation to recoil against though. Changing to setting 2 and the Surefire mag, not a single stoppage, FTF or FTE. My gun has the 4 hole gas port configuration by the way. The 00 buck was on setting 1 with a single Federal light load placed in the middle of the mag. Fired from the shoulder on setting 1, all rounds cycled and ejected perfectly. That
  3. I picked up my Surefire yesterday (along with my first converted S12), and with today being my birthday, it seemed fitting. I haven't fired it yet though. DANG! That mag is looooong! LOL! Corbin
  4. I just got mine yesterday. With today being my birthday, it seems fitting. Something I noticed was that the top rib (where it meets the bottom of the receiver) isn't parallel to the receiver. Just a cosmetic thing, as it seems to lock in just fine. I assume this is normal. Corbin *EDIT* I fired 40 rounds through it today and just picked up another 100 rounds to try out tomorrow. It flew through the rounds without a hitch. I tried light loads on setting 2 and 00 buck on setting 1. Flawless.
  5. Hi guys. I suspect fit has more to do with individual shotguns than variances in the mags. I just returned from Dinzag's place and got to try fitting a bunch of different mags he had there (including a couple MD drums). Besides the stock 5 rounder, the 12 shot Surefires were the only ones that fit into my gun without any need for modding. I noticed that the rib that mates up to the bottom of the receiver isn't parallel to it, but the mag snaps in and is rock solid. I haven't fired it yet, so I can't say how it feeds. Corbin
  6. Look through the Gallery and you should find what you need.
  7. Well said Globule. That spelled it out well. Gunfixr, Thanks for your post. I was wondering that exact thing.
  8. I'm not sure if this is the same one you're talking about, but this pic was posted on the forum by someone. Sorry, I don't remember who. I believe it's an ACE external receiver block with a shorty ACE skeleton stock (7.5" long). Notice there's no room for a rubber buttpad: It would use the top ACE stock shown here: I personally prefer the look of an internal block, but if it's important to you to be able to fold the stock with a drum in place, then this is an option. I'm not sure what the overall length of pull is when you combine the external block and the shorty
  9. I didn't realize it had a "zero" setting. I just thought it was "light", "heavy" and "magnum". I suppose it makes sense though. Easy enough to turn it to the setting with no cutout notch. Cool.
  10. Pretty fair deal. I was one of those No-bama purchasers too. It's my first Saiga. It's being held up at the FFL until the dealer can get some info from Cadiz though, so I don't have it yet. I have a buddy that I took with me to a gun show recently that might still want an S-12. I showed him how many folks were upping the price of the guns and how a few were still at the $599 range. He seemed interested. I'll give him a call and see what he says. Corbin *Edit* He's interested. He'll take the mag too. Should I email you?
  11. Mike's a great guy doing all this. I'm a little confused though (nothing new there ). I didn't assume the plugs would be free for the 2nd run folks, but some posts sound like that's how some folks understand it. I see a couple people mentioning $35.00 for the plug, which sounds reasonable to me.... but I can't see where that number is mentioned by Mike. Sorry if I'm not getting it, and I'm not wanting to offend anyone that thinks everyone gets a plug for free or those that think we have to pay for it or that some of us do and some don't. I'm just trying to understand everything.
  12. Thanks for the update Mike. It's cool to know that the fix is there IF it's needed when I get my drum. I look forward to hearing more about this plug. We're all behind ya! Keep up the great work! Corbin *Edit* It sounds like regardless of whether your particular gun is over gassed or under gassed, that this plug will help regulate it better than the stock one. Plus it looks to have a 3" mag setting, which is cool if you need it. BRAVO!
  13. Great price on these! Will these require the tang be removed, or do they require the weapon HAVE a tang? I'm considering getting one for a pistol gripped converted S-12. The tang is already removed on it. Thanks Corbin
  14. Ditto on what JPanzer said. The No-bama special will be my first S-12 and it's great to know that it'll be test fired by someone familiar with Saigas to make sure everything is functioning correctly. I don't know if I'll have it by Christmas or not, but I'm really looking forward to joining the "Saiga Community". Corry, Hopefully this issue can be resolved quickly for you. From what I understand, it's a pretty straight forward fix. Corbin
  15. A couple weeks ago, I saw some non-converted S12s at a gun show. The cheapest I found was $599.00 and the most expensive was $950 (for the same exact stock S12, un-converted). The converted few I saw were all over a grand, but I didn't examine them too much. They were converted by the gentleman that had the table there. All had Tapco furnature and I think Duracoat finish. I was TOLD that the price on the S12s have gone up from the importer. Not sure if that's true of if the dealers are just raising prices to make more money. I seem to remember Tom from Cadiz mentioning something about the
  16. A possible way to avoid having the pistol grip screw only going in a few threads might be to spin it around and weld it to the top so that the shaft is pointing downward through the grip and you'd have to use a nut on the bottom somehow. You'd have to modify a standard AK grip to fit the nut up inside, but perhaps something like a SAW grip might work. I hope this makes sense. So........where does the spring go? JUST KIDDING.
  17. Exceptional conversion!! I didn't see any mention to the methoid used to remove the import markings. Were they welded over then ground down, or did you just sand/grind them out? Those import marks were the one thing keeping me from daring to do a conversion like this myself. I was considering the triangular stock, but yours looks great too. Do those solid stocks come in OD green, do you know? Thanks for posting this. Corbin
  18. Definitely not worth adding a spring to this setup then. Not if it means forceable man love. My vision of the slotted pistol grip wouldn't allow your middle finger to get behind the trigger guard. In the stock's most rearward position, the rear of the trigger guard would be flush with the front of the grip. Then it would retract into the grip a little bit, but not so much that the inside FRONT of the trigger guard would pinch your trigger finger. That might not be enough movement for what you want though.
  19. Neat idea. I was going to suggest having a spring added to help push the receiver back forward, and act as a bit of a recoil absorber, but after researching the links here and learning about the Atkins Accelerator, it sounds like the spring would make this stock really close to the AA. My original suggestion was to have the pistol grip go right up to the back of the trigger guard, then have a slot cut into the grip to allow the guard to slide back into it a little. That way, the trigger itself MIGHT be able to recess enough to reset itself. This sounds like it would be too close to the
  20. I like how he mentioned to make sure it's unloaded, but just takes the mag out without checking the chamber. At least he didn't drop the hammer. LOL
  21. Thanks for the input guys. Alpha, I like the feel of the SAW grip personally. It's just that I can't get my right hand around it. I'm OK with the standard AK grip. I was thinking of the Saiga made grip or the Galil too. The rest of my right hand can fit around a larger piece, it's just my thumb and forefinger that can't open up as far. Big J, That's a cool idea with the sling attachment for a sight. I'd seen a QD sling stud used before with the hole opened up a little. They make a nice peep rear sight, but the one you posted looks cool and would go onto a top rail easilly. I'm
  22. Hi all. In trying to decide what I want my S12 to eventually end up looking like, I've scoured this forum as well as other websites in an attempt to find the options I like. The search function here is really useful. While I couldn't find a pic with every single thing I wanted, I found a few that had some elements of what I was looking for. First off, I'm wanting a folding stock of some type. I think I've settled on the original AR style ACE stock with the foam tube slid over the AR buffer tube. It looks like it would be comfortable. I'd want it to fold to the left I think. That's eas
  23. I'll definitely purchase it with the solid stock. If I can put a folder on it later and keep it 30" or over when folded, that's what I'll do. Like I mentioned, I might get a muzzle break/flash hider to make up the extra inch on the front end. We'll see.
