Whoever approved this dumb-ass raid needs to pay personally for emotional suffering and business damages... not the tax payers! They confiscated everything but found nothing. here in the ultra conservative parts of Texas mentoning marijuana is like talking about weapons of mass destruction. I've seen several bill boards around recently saying "marijuana kills!" with a picture of a sad teen haha. Last time I checked you can't die from marijuana but alcohol on the otherhand. A dirty bomb I can understand....a couple tons of blow I can understand. But for a couple of non-existent marijuana plants? That has ultra conservatives written all over it. Let me give you an example. In Austin Texas there is a very popular and well known guy that stands in the city with a sign that says "need money for weed" most people at first glance think he's a homeless guy trying to get some money so he can buy some weed. But put a few buck in his change jar and he'll hand you a joint or two. Get it? "need money for weed". He's drug dealing in the open. And the most shocking part is that the austin police don't care. They actually pose in pictures with him because they think it's funny and clever. Eta. And before anyone accuses me of being a doper I'm not. I'm a manager at my place of employment and get randomly drug tested throughout the year. This year alone I've been tested 3 times. I just think that marijuana is no worse than tobacco or alcohol. mancat 2,368 Posted August 18, 2013 Report Share Posted August 18, 2013 (edited) that's because many people are confused on what "liberal" actually means - including modern liberals themselves. classical liberals are basically libertarians. modern "liberals" are more or less statist democratic socialists who support a strong central government and only believe in freedoms for certain preferential groups. unfortunately, many modern republicans fall into the same exact trap, except that the freedoms and preferential groups they embrace are just slightly different. you can recognize that there is a common ground forming amongst Americans against the statism trend, and it is independent of party affiliation. read the comments on that news story, and tell me that you don't see it there - e.g. there are plenty of commenters pointing out that this is another example of police state policies and aggressive police militarization that has to be stopped yesterday. you may be surprised to find many of these types of attitudes in a place like Huffington Post, but it is there.
