  1. I have a friend who has access to industrial parkerizing equipment. I've had him do a bayonet for me and he didn't even remove the handles, it came out unreal! My question is, what will the parkerizing do to a chrome lined chamber and bore? I'm very tempted to have him strip and parker my entire AK when I do the conversion to it, but I don't want to screw the bore if the parkerizing or the cleaning acid messes it up. I'm just curious if anyone is familiar with this stuff.
  2. I've heard that some magazines hold the bolt open on the last round, I'm not sure if this is something people make, or if specific mags do this. On my friends Norinco mac 90 if you pull the slide back and let it go slowly the bolt will lock itself open. No clue how this works but it does.
  3. I purchased the Tapco butt stock and pistol grip but found on arrival that they don't have the PG nut and bolt I need! This sucks because I find out now that K-var is running a sale on the whole setup for 10 bucks less than what I spent! Anyways I'm starting the swap next week and need to know where I can find a pistol grip nut and bolt, and whatever else I might need to get this swap done. Thanks in advance everyone.
  4. I've never seen Gunbroker.com have a realistic price. I live in Indiana so that may effect my opinion but to me it's a joke that causes the current price gouging we see. Check your local pawn shops/dealers. FYI Saiga's are imported through Scotsburg Indiana, that's less than a half hour away from me so when I see someone gouging on one of these guns it's obvious to me. They shouldn't cost over 350 a unit in my opinion (be it a biased one).
  5. No luck on the eBay search, they have gotten so liberal lately they are probably pulling the listings for the word buckshot. I nearly got banned for selling AR15 hand guard removal tools because they're "machine gun parts" according to eBay.
  6. Well I've got the shotgun press and a *gasp* Lee Pro 1000 on the way (yes I know I've wrestled with a Pro 1000 before, I would have chose different but I have SO much crap for the thing I just decided to suck it up and give it another go). Where are you guys getting your buckshot moulds? I live next door to a scrap yard and the guy will sell me lead by the ton, so this may be the most economical and *long term* way to go.
  7. I just picked one up to do some buckshot loads, I'll tell you how it works for a noob when it arrives.
  8. If I could get 20 and 30 round mags for that price I wouldn't be sinking money into a mag adapter. Where are you finding these prices? I can't even find the ak74 waffle mags at that price anymore.
  9. I plan to buy the one from MSA, quick question, what has to be modded on these? Is it part of the receiver or the bottom of the bolt? I just picked up 10 stainless steel AR mags so I'll have mags specifically for this gun
  10. I'm getting back into reloading and I'm curious where you all are picking up your reloading supplies, especially buckshot. I can't seem to find it anywhere and the places that do have it act like the apocalypse has already taken place with the prices they're asking. I'm looking at getting a Lee Load All 2 and GASP a Lee Pro 1000 progressive (I know these suck, I used to own one the only reason I plan to buy one of these again is I already have so much stuff for it and I can get one cheap set up to do .223). I really need a hint on where to go for this stuff, I don't mind buying in bulk, I r
  11. This may sound strange but the best way to make it compliant is to convert it to the regular pistol grip with a US made stock set and US made trigger group.
  12. FYI I'm pretty sure if you decide to you can use this stock and grip in a conversion.
  13. So from what I gather, 2 people are making these adapters, the cost is 120 for either one. One of them has the mag release on the right side and is metal, the other is poly and has the mag catch on the left hand side. Who exactly is it that are offering these conversions right now? I'm going to buy one of these for sure, I wish I could have got in on the test group.
  14. Wingmasters have a much nicer finish and a more polished action than the Express models. I wouldn't pass up a Remington for 100 bucks but it sure wouldn't be my first choice in pump shotguns. What sealed the deal for me was watching the old Gunsite training video, the instructor is using an 870 and it fails to completely feed a shell for him several times.
  15. Why would you ever want to manipulate the release? If you ever need it in a hurry, just pull the trigger and pump again. If you're wanting to dump the round in the chamber and you're in a crisis situation that requires you to not shift your thumb dumping the chambered round might not be the best plan. Wow sorry for the zombie post guys I didn't see the date on this.
  16. I've had several of these 500/90 variants, one of them was a 28in barrel gun that was in a friends house when it went through a tornado. The barrel was tweaked at the end so I cut it down to 18 3/4in and since it was basically destroyed with rust I gave it to a friend who polished the entire gun with Mothers rim polish and installed a black pistol grip and fore end. This gun still belongs to another friend and besides the every now and again wiping down with WD40 it holds it's shine and looks chrome! I'm pretty sure he polished the receiver and barrel with a buffer ball and a drill. I also
  17. They should have stuck with the 590. Actually think of all the money our military would have saved if they would have adopted an AK variant battle rifle and never looked back!
  18. I wouldn't for the life of me leave that bolt hold open in a gun I converted to the original pistol grip format. Your trigger finger is lying across it when you're firing that's way to much liability for me to even begin to mess with. I myself will be leaving the bolt hold open out period, no notch in the safety, no lever by the pistol grip. I can afford to do that because Indiana ranges are mostly outdoors and it's an un needed item to me. If I ever need one I'll cut a dowel rod down and shove it in there
  19. Sounds like you paid for a new rifle and ended up getting a used one. I don't believe the conversion really makes the gun worth more than the material used and considering the gun is now used it lost that premium so you're even in my book. No way would I ship a rifle back if I was happy with the purchase, the wait is the worst part I wouldn't dare put myself through that again to ease conscious, ego, or curiosity.
  20. Conversion to me means moving the trigger back to it's appropriate place and putting a regular butt stock on the gun. I would do it now, you may lose the option in the future.
  21. Wow 100 views and two totally split votes, talk about a split decision. I've used the bolt buffer on my SKS and on my Ruger 10/22, it worked great on the 10/22 and on the SKS I didn't notice much of a change. I noticed that later on they changed the design of the SKS buffer to an H shaped block that sits down inside the receiver, maybe it wasn't effective the way they had it setup? On the AK buffer it looks to me like it's loose and free hanging on the guide rod/recoil spring, if this is so couldn't it move foward and jam the action?
  22. You'll be amazed how light the poly stock and hand guard are for these rifles. I'm telling you a Saiga rifle with the poly stock is lighter than a basic Romanian AK with no magazine. I would bet that the fixed poly butt stock these guns come with is lighter than a folder. Also what's the deal on these guns receivers? I was originally told that the Saiga's came with milled RPK style receivers but the .223 I have is a stamped receiver with the newer style single hook trigger etc. etc. The milled vs. stamped makes a difference in weight. Also my .223 is HEAVIER than a 7.62 rifle unloaded, I'
  23. You're chrome lined, shoot the tar out of it and spray your gun down with WD40 when you're done. What's the point of owning the toughest gun on the planet if you can't torture it a bit
  24. Guys call me crazy but in my years of handling AK variants, the regular old 7.62 saiga is the lightest AK I've ever felt. If I wanted an ultra light I would buy a Saiga, leave it like it was and pick up a few more 10 round factory mags then maybe mod the stock to hold them. Hell the 7.62 saiga my friend picked up was lighter than my AR with a government profile 20in barrel and a2 stock!
  25. The stock has alot of length adjustment to it. I personally HATE the larger Tapco grip it comes with. It has a large coarse thread screw that attaches the pistol grip to the stock so that may be an area of trouble if it's removed often. By my math this plus US made mags keep you compliant so that may be a plus if you don't want to do some work on your rifles guts.
