    FSB Removal

Have you tried heat and PB blaster?
  2. What about locking the brake into place? There isn't a pin like the akm/ak-74 brakes to keep it in place.
  3. I have a shop press and a drill press vice and was trying to press off the fsb earlier this evening. Did the copper penny trick (pre-1981 penny to be sure it was copper) over the barrel, had the dimples ground out, and pressed until there was moderate resistance. I don't know how far to go without destroying something so I thought I'd stop and bang the top of the press a few times, similar to this guy: I also heated the fsb just like the video suggested, did not apply any oil though. Any other tips on how to make the fsb go POP?
  4. As soon as my DSA SA58 suffered from failure to trigger reset, I fixed the problem and sold it. No going back to FAL for me. Fixing the rifle taught me how much more complicated it was than the Saiga.
  5. Hirtenburger. AIM is offering this stuff for about .40/round. Anyone like this in their Saiga?
  6. How in the heck is anyone going to confirm this? You need sample data and verified claims, rather than just one or two internet stories. I would speculate it's possible this was the case, but was demand truly exceeding supply and was the factory unable to keep up with the demand, perhaps prompting them to cut corners? Therein lies the answer.
  7. I think it's cute that people believe the gov't is all powerful and all knowing. All those tanks, planes, and bombs sure helped the Soviet Union, East Germany, Hungary, etc when their respective commie govt's collapsed overnight.
  8. There's a really good deal on a 6 ton press around here, plus it's more portable than the 12 ton variety. Do you folks think this is strong enough to press on/off a gas and front sight block, after the peens are drilled out? I had other uses for it, just checking if it's good for this.
  9. POSP scope, you can go back to naked irons without modification.
  10. What are the approximate dimensions of a Magpul mag vs say a native Saiga 308 (e.g. surefire)? I take it the Magpuls won't have the same problems as the G3, namely the width being too excessive for the magwell.
  11. Has anyone cut down their own barrel? I mean, other than using a pipe cutter and crowning it carefully with some homemade tools, is there anything else really involved?
  12. I know because the barrel and gas tube are different sizes and there's the sheathing for the gas tube on stock saigas it might be difficult, but has anyone tried doing this?
  13. Does anyone think it's a good idea to use a pipe cutter to take a 21" barrel to about 18", recrowning like this (recrowning), and then installing a 74 front sight block? This way you get the length required for the 308 to adequately burn without a huge flash yet allows for a little bit of portability?
  14. What do people think about the 4 piece bulgarian krinkov brake using an ak74 fsb?
  15. I didn't use the BHO. Think I'm gonna buy a G2 trigger group and sell off my arsenal one. I have a feeling that using the arsenal trigger, since it's 2 stage, along with the stock russian trigger may be fail on this particular build.
  16. Tried this. Disconnector seems to hang onto the hammer if I hold down the trigger while cycling. Pushing the trigger from the rear seems to release the disconnector's grip from the hammer.
  17. It was just stubborn to slide the carrier into place when reassembling, so a few gentle raps with a rubber mallet (not hammer) against the back of the charging handle did the trick. I mean, it cycles fine except for the trigger needing a nudge forward to reset following each shot. Kind of annoying.
  18. I converted my 308 using a 2-stage Arsenal trigger and disconnector, but keeping the stock hammer (since it had the correct geometry). I remember noticing that I had problems trying to shove the bolt carrier back into the closed position when reassembling, so I took a hammer to it...could cycle it fine by hand. When I shot it today, the trigger locks back and I have to gently push it with my finger from the trigger rear to follow up with another shot. Has anyone converted using the stock hammer and encountered the same kind of problem? Do you think a G2 trigger would solve my problem?
  19. Gel buttstock pad, rubberbanded to stock. Done. Suck it up. If that doesn't work, try this:
  20. The other option is going with a G2 and keeping the stock hammer. Yes, you miss out on one 922r part but if you're using US mags it's no big deal.
  21. Those gun shops should go out of business. If CTD or any other business got cocky with me, that would be enough for me not to do business with them again. My local gun shop gets zero business after the owner was eating while talking with me and picking at his food in his mouth with his finger. Not interested in that kind of businessman, so I only use them for the indoor range nowadays and buy zero from their pro shop. The folks from CTD were fine even during the explosion of business. I guess my criteria is different than others. But this is America, where you can show your power by not
