  1. I recently purchased a 20" barrel length Saiga and love it, and don't intend to convert it. I guess I am lucky, the trigger on mine is very good, Mine was $425 purchased online shipped.
  2. The parts problem is one of the drawbacks to owning a Saiga 308. I wish you luck at finding that part. I wonder if any of the AK based 308 rifles like the Yugo would share the same firing pin? But that being said, it would be just as hard finding a firing pin for that AK also. I own a Saiga 308, so this topic interests me greatly too. And of course the firing pin spring is removable, found that out when I stripped one of my S308's down for refinishing.
  3. That's a sharp looking rifle. I have a thread going in the 223 section about the same topic....barrel threading, I think it is the most discussed topic in these forums..but I am glad to be able to draw upon everyone's experience in what they have done or what will work. Look here: http://www.dinzagarms.com/brakes_hiders/74brake.html Here's mine with it installed.
  4. I am getting ready to order the TWS sight system for my Saiga 223. I was lucky and found the peep sight used, and from the looks of it, it seems to be a nice looking setup. Is it worth the $$$? Am ordering mine through Carolina Shooters Supply, check goes out tomorrow or Monday. Thanks for the write up.
  5. I know that this is perhaps the most discussed topic in the Saiga forums, perhaps, not only for the 223's but all the Saiga platforms.. At this point not sure which route I will take, I had planned on shortening the barrel to 18", and going from there.... The option of buying a threaded Front Sight Block and have it opened up to match the diameter of the barrel sounds best to me if it can be done. Not sure the ID of any of those sight blocks and if they can be safely opened up that much. That way it eliminates the threading and milling the barrel process, but still leaves me with a
  6. I should have done more research and measuring before purchasing the Vortex..I had figured a simple end of barrel threading, not having to turn the barrel down. I looked at Dinzag's site at the tools mentioned, in the end , about the same cost in the end as taking it to a machine shop/gunsmith, and like some one said, I keep the tools...however it's adding to the cost of this, more than I had envisioned. I appreciate all the input from the forum members..
  7. All this information is good and I really appreciate it. However I am about to puke. Just purchased a Vortex Flash Hider for 14x1LH , thought I would try threading the barrel myself, and some of you have said the newer barrels are larger @ .591 which makes it both more difficult and more expensive...rats...guess in the morning I will measure my barrel and see what I have. Had even thought about purchasing a complete front sight block with the 24mm threads, and buying a 14x1 thread adapter... I thought I got a good deal some years back having a local machine shop turn a Sa
  8. I have read of many owners finding their Saiga's already threaded under the factory front sight shroud. Has anyone found this to be the case for the 20" bbl models in 223?
  9. Excellent sale transaction from AZG on recent purchase, would do business with AZG again. Excellent communication, and shipping. Sunset_Va
  10. Pm replied to Has this sight been sold? I read this posting where person claimed it but didnt see it shown as sold or SPF in main listing. Just asking, I am interested in this part if the sale doesn't go through. Thanks, just wanting to find out. Still available I will take the TWS peep sight, please send payment info via msg , payment can go out tomorrow USPS Money Order. To make sure, this is the sight TWS uses on their rail system?, if so, this will help me out a lot,as I am ordering that rail system soon.

  12. Its easy to "want" everything made for your rifle, my suggestion is, spend the money on things that will prolong the life of your rifle. Durable finishes, cleaning needs, maintenance kits, spare parts . The basic rifle is fine.
  13. Go with the 18" length. I had a 21" length barrel, cut it down to 18", added Vortex flash hider , which was about 1-1/2" length, the balance was perfect. The flash hider tames the flash to a degree.
  14. Isn't the barrel already 20" length? Regardless, excellent job on your rifle/covert.
  15. That is a nice rifle. I am thinking of cutting my 21" barrel to 18" and doing same brake and sight work. Very nice rifle .
  16. I can laugh at that too! More specific, its a top cover with a weaver rail mounted on it,it also lets you use your open sights via a square tube. Not sure of the brand, give me the side rail mounts any day. No problem here, I appreciate all the great information the forum members offer out.
  17. I posted another question in another topic, but forgot this one. What receiver/dust/top covers will fit my 308 Saiga? The previous owner installed a see through rail type on mine, I do not want to use it, and want to replace it with a standard topcover. When I purchased the rifle Thursday morning, the original owner did not include original topcover when the gun shop bought it. What fits? Thanks!
  18. Thanks to all that posted replies, I will certainly look up the forum member you mentioned. I was a long way off with his nic name....... And that stock set looks fantastic on your 308 Saiga,(dwg1) I realize the choices with standard AK furniture is much wider, but I am not going to convert my 308 and wanted something unusual . I had asked the owner of Ironwood Designs about making a set for me, but he said he couldnt do just one set, although he had many people ask him for the same request I am making. Thanks to Paulski also.
  19. There used to be a forum member here (Battlefield g3?) that made custom wood furniture for AK's. I am looking for some one that can make a stock replacement set of buttstock and forearm out of wood , exactly like or similar to the plastic sporter furniture on my Saiga 308. Anyone know? Thanks lots!
  20. I dont have a problem with the trigger like many of the people posting here mention, its not good, but I can live with it. I converted one 308 and even though it turned out to be awesome, I like the stock rifle in the 308. As far as the 7.62x39's and 5.45's, its 50/50 on that. To me its a matter of balance, and point ability, the best handling rifle I own is my Winchester 94.
  21. You can also try Krebs Custom guns, not sure of their website, I have had good luck with stock take offs he saves. The company specializes in high end AK's/Saigas. They don't show the fore ends now, but used to, try giving them a call and asking.. My link
  22. The way you modified the fore end is fantastic, best I have seen so far in terms of using original handguard!
  23. Guess I picked mine because sunsets have always had effect on me, regardless of where I see them. Here lately I walk my huskies in the evenings and see the late autumn sunsets, its my "quiet" time. And my residence is in Virginia.
