  1. Never had a problem with mine. The block is almost completely inside the receiver. It's secured in there from the top with the screw below the guide rod too. If you're particularly concerned about it, would recommend loctite. With 5 screws, along with it being snug along the inside of the receiver, it ain't going anywhere.
  2. I've got one in mine. The screws, which are on both sides, go in from the outside of the receiver into the original FCG axis pin holes to anchor it in nice and snug. I like it because it means I don't have four useless holes looking like crap on my gun. I can't weld so it's a nice option.
  3. Edit: Never mind, question was answered in the thread in the main forum. Thanks to JT, looks like a nifty piece of gear.
  4. Many lulz dude. Mike, let us know when! I'm ready to buy a few!
  5. Worry not. Going through 100 rds with hi caps in a Saiga 12 is not time consuming at all! Have fun. Also if you don't want to take off the thread protector or convert right away, other cheap easy ways to be compliant would be to put on a US made flash hider or muzzle brake, gas piston, or handguard. Switching out a Russian part with any one of those will keep you legal.
  6. Nope. Easiest and cheapest (free) solution is to remove the thread protector on the muzzle. Or do a full conversion. You know you want to.
  7. If that rattling really bothers you, some of the aftermarket pucks don't do it nearly as much. At least not the two I've used, which include the King Armory puck and the Etac Twister Puck.
  8. I dropped $750 or so on my Saiga 12 about a year ago, right after The Chairman seized power. That was a bad time to buy guns.
  9. I've been thinking about getting one of these for the S-12 since it wouldn't interfere with the mags. Downside is it takes up a lot of rail estate. How many rails does it cover?
  10. Welcome! I was the same way lol. On the way back from the gun shop I was thinking, "This thing has some badass potential. What can be done to it?" Surf around on the picture post thread, you'll find some cool ideas. Good buy, the Saiga 12 is the most fun gun I've ever shot, maybe with the exception of the M240G. Of course, that's in a league of it's own.
  11. Nobody gets sent over there with flak vests dude. Even non-combat POGs like mechanics and admin clerks get SAPIs. It is military SOP nowadays that 4 plates are to be worn by anyone leaving the wire, no exceptions. I remember wishing it wasn't the case, because they are horribly uncomfortable and kill your mobility.
  12. The whole thing seems moot to me as far as penetrating body armor. Neither 7.62 or 5.45 will come close to penetrating what our men in Afghanistan wear. The SAPIs are rated to take 3 hits of AP 30-06, compared to that 5.45 is nothing. I have personally seen a SAPI shot with a .223, hardly left a ding.
  13. Damn, good eyes. Wonder if they're still flying around up there.
  14. link 10 feet wide, 1,500 feet up. Might not work with the shotgun, but I bet a well aimed .50 could tag one. Shit, might be able to pull it off with the AR. Sure is getting 1984 up in here. I'm sure the justification will be "drugs and terrorism" as usual. Of course we don't want either of those, why would you object?
  15. Kalashnikov would strongly dispute that, (the idea that the AK47 was heavily based on the design of the StG44), and has in interviews. Of course Kalashnikov designed his own rifle. There are a number of differences between the two rifles, but when you look at the STG you can tell that it was without a doubt the basis for the AK. IMO Kalashnikov took the STG and simplified it to perfection.
  16. You might want to be careful about this, legally. I have no idea how it would work as far as bayonets go, but spring loaded blades are illegal in most states. Don't let me tell you not to do it though. Awesome idea.
  17. Man what a bad design! I bet that sucks to shoot! That's blasphemy on this forum! The Stg44 is what Kalashnikov based most of his design off of. 7.92x33... I'd love to shoot that if I ever got a chance.
  18. Yeah man, I was stoked to get that 14 Kill Streak . I've went like 25-4 before. Too bad it wasn't a 25 streak, though. I hear you on that Wasteland thing. EVERYONE runs straight for that damn tunnel. I'll just try to sneak around the other side and drop 'em as they are focused on the tunnel. I'll tell you what's great for that tunnel- Put the thermal sight on the 240 and throw a smoke grenade in there. Stay prone in the trench and light 'em up. It's a beautiful thing.
  19. Thanks for the idea guido. PVC piping... I'll have to keep some on hand in case it ever comes to that.
  20. I have a POSF Hawgs Tooth brake, which from what I can tell is basically a non-contributor knock off of the Tromix Shark brake. (Sorry Tony, bought it before I found the forum.) Link to Shark brake. Nice and loud. It'll definitely remind you to put your ear plugs in after a couple shots.
  21. I tried the cork in the follower trick a while back. It kept it from riding up too high, but then the increased width of the follower interfered with the already too small ID of the mag body and wouldn't feed for anything. I filed the hell out of the inside of the mag and got FTF's down to about 60%. Might have to try Paulyski's method. Thanks for posting this. In any case, I'll never buy another Promag.
  22. The ACE club stock can be cut to length, so if you don't mind a really short LOP you could go with that.
