  1. that sounds like a perfect reason to go with a slant then. it just depends on the way the FSB is mounted if you will wish to salvage it or not. Most in the last few years of production have the dimples. These can leave large holes in the side if you do not know how to weld them shut. But the process of the forward movement, redrilling, and repin are very easy. To drive it forward without cutting the FSB lengthwise, use a soft wood, like pine. place it at the point where the sleeve meets the tower and hit with a mallet. If you drive it all the way off to fill the holes, you can use an anti-sei
  2. k-var already has some of the zastava EZ-9 & EZ-40 models in. they look pretty good but i havent seen much about their reliability.
  3. you have all the parts required. insert the smooth pin, then the spring. you will need punch or something small to hold it in place from the rear side until you can get the retainer pin in through the gap. the spring pressure should be sufficient to hold it together. loctite would help if you see it sliding again.
  4. last year when I took my Chl course, we took it as a group. Our friend's grandma took it with us. She is over 65. She was stopped by an officer not long after that. She handed her card to the officer, epxecting him to ask about the firearm. he didn't ask if she was carrying and she was kinda disappointed cause she is proud to carry it with her and i think she wanted to show it off to him.
  5. wow, notice FImes already has the MSRP at higher than the current average on Saigas. lame
  6. the brake i switched too, a clone 103 brake reduces about 75% of the recoil, even at a slow rate of fire (range rules of 1 sec between shots). I also shoot quickly often too, when in the woods and practicing for hog herds, and the control difference is very noticeable too.
  7. here is the thread going on about this subject. http://forum.saiga-12.com/index.php?/topic/74397-izhmash-exclusive-importer-russian-weapon-company/
  8. it would be cool if they did, but you know they will all bring them home instead of selling them off. they are too awesome.
  9. i found this on their company. http://www.russianweaponcompany.com/rwc/underconstruction.html
  10. i would expect prices to rise also, once the current importers run out of stock. RAAC never kept a steady price on them like we have now also.
  11. i did that when i first converted my 7.62. other than looking a bit awkwardly long it was fine. i just didnt like how ineffective the slant brake was and switched to a 24mm block.
  12. it would depend on whether the FSB on the rifle is just pinned on or dimpled. if it is dimpled, you will have to grind the dimples out then remove the pins before removal. you may even need to cut it long ways to be able to remove it. if it is just pinned, you could remove the pins then drive it forward to the point you are after. redrill and repin.
  13. Neither my gas block or tube are vented. my gun runs great. i recommend a true 24mm 74 brake over the 74 style. i have used both and the 74 style is much less effective than the 24mm 74 brake. i presume its the small amount of interior size difference along with the proper angles the holes are placed at. i am using an East German 74 brake currently. Very effective for cutting the minimal amount of recoil to nothing.
  14. if its a 5.45 and you dont like the 74 style brake, you could go with a 24mm flash hider instead. the recoil is pretty much non-existent on such a small round. you can always switch back and forth too. they have a spring loaded retaining pin that keeps it locked in place. a slant brake is pretty much worthless except for looks.
  15. the best red dot i found for the price, IMO, is the primary arms micro dot. it sits great on my bp-02. i found my mount on gunbroker for cheap and my primary arms on this forums trader. both for 100$. if buying new, both might be around 140$ i like the looks of the MI mount. that sits lower than any other side mount i have seen.
  16. thats cool. it looks like a hawk when it goes evil. maybe thats what its tactic is for.
  17. I have the Vomz type I w rings, which Kalinka carries. Their photo shows the backside only. It has a more forward pitch like the molot one you lnked. Works great with a 3-9x40 I found for dirt cheap and had imported from the Ukraine. It has a 2" eye relief, which will be necessary if you use a warsaw length stock. If you have an extendable stock, a longer eye releif can be achieved. Im sure the molot will be rock solid and be able to hold zero on a remount. If you can find a Vomz type III, it has the most forward pitch on a scope mount I have seen. I still can not find one though. the type II
  18. the ultimak replaces your gas tube. i think classic arms has the mags cheapest at the current time.
  19. i think it is odd that they included rails on the 1" of gas block topside. i also thought the switch for the folding stock was in an awkward place. you can use google chrome to translate the page.
  20. depends on how low you want. if you want to co-witness, go ultimak with primary arms micro dot (aimpoint clone) if you want to use the side rail, the BP-02 low profile is awesome. there are several other well made low profile mounts available too.
  21. they didn't show them online when i ordered but he was having some made at the time i did. just specify the caliber since he makes clone 74 brakes too.
  22. have you considered a spring like used in the original style wooden sets. should be able to find one pretty cheap. here is a pic of one with an upper. im sure it wouldnt be to hard to fabricate one out of a thin piece of metal.
  23. in houston, it is insane how bad copper theft has gotten. they will rob an entire shopping strip of all its a/c units copper in just a couple hours at night. it the company i was with had it happen several times to one location in a year. several of their others where hit also. saw a news report on 14 large moving trucks in one lot had all the catalytic converters snagged in one evening. thats why regulations like that are being made. it does suck that you cant turn it in though. maybe there is a different scrap yard that will accept it.
  24. some people recommend against this. if you use to much oil, it can plug the gas port when it heats up and holds fouling. i oil mine then wipe as much excess off as possilbe. i only leave a very minor amount.
