  1. By after market mags if you mean ak steel mags you arent using the right one man. I would take steel ak mags over any mag any day. Im not dissing the tapcos I have a few, the surefires are good too, have a few of those. But you get some good quality steel mags and you just can not beat them hands down. Yeah, I need to get some steel mags. I'd like to buy them in person so I can inspect them when I buy them. I don't want to buy a bunch of mags online and have them show up to my house with a bunch of dents in them. Kinda why I've been using Tapco mags. Aim has great customer service.
  2. Maybe they use all left over Mosin cleaning rods.
  3. When drilling the rivets, don't drill the rear one all the way just go far enough to get the mount off and you will leave enough rivet to hold the trunnion. The other two you will have to either fill or use the plastic hole plugs to cover them up. I can't remember if it was painted under the mount or not but if I had to guess I would say it is not. I did both left side charging handle and removed the mount and I am happy with it. I'm kind of screwed for an optics mount because I cut off my tang but I'm over it.
  4. I didn't clean my gas system for at least 2500 rounds with no failures. She's my go to gun.
  5. For sale on his site. And a free giveaway in his section here.
  6. Cool man, I've always wanted something in that caliber. Sounds like a good cost too
  7. In the correct states that's grounds for justifiable self defense with deadly force! Ya.... but it was his cousin. He was pissed but not that pissed. He just wont take him out shooting again.
  8. Pull the bolt all the way back and push the BHO tab up and hold it. Then slowly release the bolt tension while holding the BHO tab in the up position and it should eventually hold it.
  9. You can see if your gun has the pistol grip nut hole by taking out your recoil spring and looking behind the hole for the stock trigger. You should see a square hole. I don't know if the single hook is better but it doesn't require you to cut your receiver and it is a big improvement over stock. The bullet guide is pretty easy and worth it if you want more than 1 or 2 mags. Here's a pic of a bullet guide riveted on for reference.
  10. I beleive it was his second time shooting ever. He's from California
  11. It had an extra port added and they where all opened up but I'm not sure how much. I can probably ask the smith when I go down there next time but it was done 4 or 5 years ago so he probably wont remember. And no it will not cycle low brass. It has a hard time with 2 3/4 00 Buck but feeds 2 3/4 slugs and 3" Buck all day. We have tried a few things to make it cycle low brass so he can shoot it more often but nothing worked and he doesn't want to spend the money on shortening the gas system. Gunfixr plug and KA tappet did not work.
  12. I think you can order them in different lengths too. I got the longer one and it is perfect, but I remember that there was different options for length.
  13. That's my buddy behind the camera. Later on the guy shooting pointed a loaded gun at him and he will never take him out shooting again. And yes the barrel is cut off at the end of the gas tube. The gas system was not shortened just the ports opened up. It used to be an early EAA green cammo 22" or 24" Saiga.
  14. Good job, and nice first post. However, when you decide to convert you wont be able to use your butt stock any more. And I would recomend converting like most others around here.
  15. The FAL charging handle would be the optimum way to go, but it looks way to intricate for me. You did an excellent job Gunfixr.
  16. You could allways buy a Saiga and just pop it on there. But if it's a prodject you are interested in you can have my old FCG and just make some new pins for it. You would have to drill 4 holes in your receiver for the new axis pins and I am guessing it would need to be prety accuratly drilled. If you want my old FCG I will look for them tonight. PM me and we can set it up.
  17. Why not just leave the FCG and add an AK thumbhole?
  18. 13 The pistol grip is canceled out because it was not there before. So now your total countable parts are at 15. If you add a muzzle brake it is the same, adding a countable part and moving you up to 16countable parts. If it is US made than it will not count against you or for you.
  19. That sucks, it took my buddy and me about 20 minutes to do the whole thing and it came out great. And he used a mig. But that is one of those parts that kinda fucks you if it falls off.
  20. Mine is solid as a rock. Just make sure it is a competent welder, not smith. The only thing I don't like about mine it if I need to throw my AK on my back and switch to my pistol to kill the milk jugs coming over the hill, it might poke me. I'm not too worried about it, but if I did it again, I would probably go with a Galil style.
  21. You should be able to paint the whole receiver with one can. Then it doesn't matter because the whole receiver is the same color. Get what you prefer.

    anyone

Good job man, it looks great.
  23. I personally wouldn't trust JB weld alone to hold your BG to your trunnion. I don't see a pic but it sound like your trunnion is fine, if anything drill the hole a little bigger and get a nut and longer bolt and use JB weld so it doesn't move front to back.
